I keep very strange hours

My internal clock is different from almost everyone I know.  How many people do you know that make potato salad at 3 a.m. for dinner the next day?  I just finished making it and put it in the fridge.  Do you know anyone who does dishes at 4 a.m.?  I’ve been known to do that often.  See?  Weird.

I also do my writing after 11p.m.  I’m never fully awake until sometime in the afternoon.  Before that, I live on coffee to jump start my brain.  Ask me a question before noon and I make no sense.  Probably because I’m still in bed and sound asleep at that time.

I can’t help it.  I’ve tried changing my circadian clock but before long, it is right back to where it was before.  My mother told me many times I did this as a child.  I drove her crazy with it.  My dear Aunties have learned to take my crazy hours in stride.  They let me sleep until I wake up when I visit.  They also know never to phone me before noon and preferably not until sometime around 3 in the afternoon when I am completely functioning.

Strange. That way, we can talk because when you are awake at night, it’s day here in India! The next time you get bored, we will chat, huh!

  2. Never know, we just might chat.

Do you think my screwed up clock has something to do with being born in Japan? LOL!

  3. That is strange, to be honest. I’m one of those who like to get up early. I can happily get up at 8am, have a quick shower and then start to clean the apartment, or bake a cake or do the dishes from yesterday’s dinner.

    • Yes, you are a lark while I am an owl and I do love being an owl. I’ll explain some of the many reasons I love being an owl in tonight’s post.

Glad you stopped by, come back any time. 🙂

  4. Don’t know if there is any way to prove it enuf for the pundits, but I have a friend in Australia with the same internal clock who claims it’s because he was born and grew up in Trinidad.

What is lovely is being able to live in the way that feels right to you. As for me, my cats are working diligently on converting me to cat time. And, getting older I’m finding that it’s becoming easier and easier to join them in naps 🙂

Well, I don’t think it has anything to do with your birth in Japan. It’s about, well, I don’t know actually.

  6. I too am a night owl. I think it started when I did a lot of night duty, and was then reinforced by a daughter who needed very little sleep for her first two years!
I hope I can adjust on this cruise. We are being picked up at 6.30am, so JW says I might as well stay up. 🙂

  7. Same here, see, there’s alot of us owls out here! 🙂 Hubby is always telling me if you just go to bed you won’t keep doing that, can’t make him understand doesn’t do me any good to just go to bed & lay there awake! LOL
