How to be a writer

Write a paragraph.  Delete what you’ve written.  Write some more.  Two paragraphs, three, maybe a whole page.  Read them, scream, delete and rewrite them.

Bang head on desk.  Get some sudden inspiration and write six pages.  Spell and grammar check them.  Read them and feel a thrill that they make sense.

Write a paragraph.  Delete what you’ve written.  Dig deep inside you.  Find additional inspiration and write five or six more pages.

     Life interrupts.

Write a paragraph.  Bang head on desk…

  1. Sounds like the usual strategy though I usually bang my head on the wall beside me rather than the desk. The desk is too cluttered and I might hit something important.

To bang my head on the wall I’d have to leave my desk.

  2. In literary fiction I have found books that propound the same idea at much greater length and considerably less clarity. Well done!

Thank you I do try to write in a concise manner. 😉

  3. lmao that was so good it explains some of the noises we heard when we were kids

I bet your father had the dents in his desk to prove it.

  4. lmaooooooooo, if you aim for the keyboard you could have a QWERTY headache as well as a temporarily imbedded tattoo. Of course, to do this properly, you have to yell QWERTY every time you bang your head;)

I wonder what Patty and Gavin would think…LOL

The pups already think I’m nuts.

  5. I feel like that quite often, although mine isn’t about writing, it’s about lacking inspiration for crafting things. WHY can’t I just find something I’m good at and can work at at home??

The images you created did make me chuckle though. Hope your inner editor goes out for a long coffee break for you!

That danged little editor needs to take a looong vacation.
