Homeward bound with a slight hitch

DH claims he’s sane and has the paperwork to prove it.  I think that paperwork might need redoing.  The hospital is driving him crazy.  He’s trying to get his mother released before her benefits run out.  They want to add another elderly person to their profit margin.

It is my belief that no hospital, rehab facility, or nursing home should be run for profit.  When it comes down to a company’s profit margin, which is what always comes first.  Not the patient, not the patient’s family, to heck with the Hippocratic Oath, do no harm, they want money.

The psychiatrist who ‘talked’ to my mother in law today pushed her panic button.  He mentioned selling her house.

This poor woman has a not very nice neighbor who has been trying to get her to sell him her house for the last five years.  His methods have been heavy handed and, for her, scary.  He’s backed off since DH, his best friend, and I had a few conversations with him.  We used the words attorney, police, and terroristic threats during our conversations with him.  I was not nearly as nice as the men were when I spoke to him.  I’ve dealt with too many bullies over the years.

So naturally, when this doctor mentioned selling, her first thought was that the doctor now wanted her house.  This put her in panic mode.  Do you blame her?  It took DH several conversations with the ‘powers that be’ to explain her reaction.

So far, she’s still going home on Saturday.

  1. I am in shock!! What the heck is the psychiatrist doing by mentioning the sale of her home? He is supposed to be checking her competency not act as a real estate agent. I mean first and foremost, find out if she’s all there mentally, not try to convince her she needs to stay in a place other than her own home. I thought hospital care meant getting cared for in a hospital. This place sounds like it has redefined that phrase to mean, taking care of the hospital. Oh, and by the way, I think we can change that Hippocratic Oath to more accurately reflect today’s medical community. Wouldn’t you agree that Hippocracy Oath fits better? LOL

    I agree!

  2. I submitted my comment to this post then got to thinking about that phrase “not for profit” or “non-profit” as it pertains to hospitals, etc. If a medical establishment is a not-for-profit facitility, WHY do they charge us up the Yin-Yang for everything, the stay, the tests, dr. visits and every dang little pill they give you? What if you don’t take that pill, will it still cost you $10 per pill even if returned? lol

I like the way the Chinese practice medicine. If you are well, you pay the Dr. to keep you well. If you get sick you don’t have to pay and the Dr. still has to help you get better.

To me a not for profit facility is best exemplified by the Boy and Girl Scouts. They sell cookies and at least you get something good in return;) I may have the makings of a post for my blog here, lol

There ya go. Let’s all scream about it.

  3. And top that list with shrinks who sell out. Any shrink who is not engaged to help is engaged to torment, bully, abuse and should have their license yanked.

It’s the old ‘if you’re not part of the solution, you’re the problem’.

And, Amen to the sickness any sort of health care being run for profit – helping and profit are mutually exclusive!

I’ve told DH that if I have to go into one, shoot me please.

  4. If only these “experts” would realise the harm they do with their thoughtless comments. Can your m. in l. sign herself out, or do you have to kidnap her?

We’d have to kidnap her…doesn’t that sound marvelous? Fortunately, they have resigned themselves to the fact that she’s outta there on Saturday.
