What are your comfort foods?

Everyone has their favorite comfort foods and when it’s cold outside we crave them.  Who doesn’t like a grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup?  Then there the hearty meals DH loves like a pot roast, mashed potatoes, carrots, and lots of gravy.  I go for old family favorites like scalloped potatoes and ham or a nourishing home made soup.

We both love breakfasts for dinner like sausage and pancakes or French toast.  We don’t eat them often but often enough to make us happy.

Even the pups have their own form of comfort foods.  They love having left over egg-foo-young gravy and rice on their kibble.  They know that when we have Chinese food delivered they will get some so they get all excited when it arrives.

How about you, what are your comfort foods?

  1. Home-made soup, hard boiled eggs spread on hot, buttered toast, pizza with potato wedges and corn on the cob, apple and blackberry crumble with cream.

The dog loves a raw egg broken on top of her food. And yoghurt. And raw carrots.

Yum, blackberry crumble with cream sounds lovely. BTW Veterinarians caution about feeding raw eggs to our dogs–something about the raw white–they recommend that the eggs be soft cooked.

  2. At this time of year, my comfort foods are whatever I can get my hands on which I really shouldn’t overindulge in. Not so much chocolate, but cheese, crisps, pizza, etc etc. I’ve found that our meals stay reasonably the same year round, but my snacks vary with the seasons!

    I think I see a trend here. 😉

  3. Macaroni and cheese. Hot turkey and gravy over bread. Hot ham and cheese sandwiches.

    Oooo, yeah macaroni and cheese!

  4. Chocolate, hands down. However, I do love chili con carne, hot chocolate (of course) with a little something extra like say, peppermint schnapps, or maybe some J.D. with a cinnamon stick in the hot chocolate. This last combo was suggested to me, just haven’t tried it yet.
