Gas explosion rocks the town

At ten forty-five last night I thought my porch roof had fallen off.  The entire house shook.  I soon realized that it was an explosion a few blocks from our home.  It isn’t the first one this city has had in the 37 years I’ve been in this home.

From the end of our street, you can see a huge cloud of smoke which at three a.m., has yet to dissipate since the houses are still burning.  So far, eight homes are lost and sixteen are in danger.  Two people are missing.  I believe they were residents of the house that blew up taking the others in its wake.

The firefighters are still battling to control the blaze but can’t get in close enough to save the homes because of the live gas lines.  Many homes and a high-rise for the elderly in the surrounding area were evacuated.

  1. I read about this first thing this a.m. and thought of you. I’m very happy you and DH are ok but sad for those other folks. It had to be a shocker, that close to home for you.

As I said it isn’t first gas explosion around here. There have been others. The last one was in 1998 when the high rise for the elderly had one due to construction workers hitting a gas line…Before that there was one that took out a whole block of row homes and that was about the same distance away as this one.

  2. Terrifying. Glad you’ve all made it through, stay safe.

Absolutely terrifying. And people wonder why I’d like to move…

  3. You and your DH were the first persons I thought of when I heard it on the news at 2245 last night! I could not remember what your address was and I was sure I had it but can not find it, so can you post your street address please?
I am so glad to know it wasn’t your area but so very sad for the people who lost their lives and homes. So very sad.
I hope you and your DH are ok and please tell him I asked about him.
    Sandy

Hi Sandy, We’re fine. I never post my address but I will send it to you via E-mail. I’ll tell DH you asked about him. 🙂

  4. Good grief, hope everyone is ok 😮

Unfortunately no, there were 5 deaths.
