Update on the gas explosion

The news was grim.  Four adults and an infant died in the explosion.  G and I knew the elderly couple that died in the first house.  We’d often walked past and complimented them on their lovely garden.  They lived there at least as long as we’ve lived in our homes.

Eight homes were lost in the fires that followed the explosion.  Twenty-four homes suffered damage.  Having been through the aftermath of a fire in the house next door to us and the subsequent smoke damage our home suffered I truly sympathize with these people.

The town has rallied to make certain these people have support, shelter, clothing, and other needs taken care of at this time.  Donations are pouring in and I do hope it is enough.  Some of these people were renters and had no insurance.  It is heart rending to know that they’ve lost everything.

  1. I know that smell – it makes me cry to think about. After so many years I still get scared when I smell smoke. I am so glad that people are rallying to help. Sometimes in a disaster it is seeing that even total strangers care makes a real difference in getting through the trauma.

It is good to see the outpouring of support from the community. I saw my next door neighbor’s daughter on TV with her church group they were holding a vigil.

  2. My thoughts go out to everyone 😦

  3. I get more angry every time I see this type of needless loss of property because the gas mains that run beneath the streets have no shutoff valves even if they installed them in multiblock quadrants….how many of the 6 homes that burned after the initial explosion would have been salvagable had the politicians and forced UGI to get off their butts and protect the customers rather than 5 or 6 hours wasted to dig up the street find the line and inject a foam block to stop the flow of gas….hence the reason I told you many years ago I would NEVER live in a house with gas!!!!!

    Same here.
