That downward spiral that is MS
Posted by doggonedmysteries
It would be so nice to be able to write that The Curmudgeon had a great day. I do not see that coming down the pike any time soon.
If anyone tells you that watching a loved one go downhill due to an ailment of some sort, isn’t the hardest thing in the world to do, they are full of shit.
I’ve watched The Curmudgeon trudge that downward spiral for years and the last few have been the worst. I dread waking up and going downstairs each day. I fear what I’ll find. Is he having an okay day or is he having another bad day? Far too often the bad days outnumber the good.
The strong man I married is no longer who I see. I see a stranger. I see his frustration, his bitterness, and his flagging spirit. He lashes out at me on occasion. I lash out at him too. It’s on days like that where I need to find someplace to escape to so we both can decompress.
I lost my weekly Border’s decompression when they closed their store. The gym just doesn’t cut it for me, it is not a place where I am at ease. Starbucks here is a little stand at a mall. It seems to me there are no more comfortable places for a writer to go around here. Don’t suggest the local library, they don’t like it when you come in to hang out and there’s no coffee.
The pups need chef hats

So I had a craving for something chocolate yesterday and remembered I had some Ghirardelli brownie mix in the cupboard. Yes, I made brownies.
Too bad The Curmudgeon went to bed early and didn’t get any. I managed to limit myself to one and we will each have one after dinner tonight.
I had two assistants while I made the brownies. I felt bad telling the pups they couldn’t have any because they aren’t allowed chocolate. They were all ready to volunteer to taste test them. 😀

A bobble headed surprise
Posted by doggonedmysteries
The Curmudgeon’s poor bobble head bull terrier fell apart into little pieces. He loved that thing. He had it in his truck for like forever.
I went hunting and found him a new one–well actually two. I ordered the last two Amazon had. 😀 Will he ever be surprised. Shhhhhh!

We had rain and with the rain came a lovely change in temperature. We are once again on the cool side and loving it.
Patty, as I’ve said before, doesn’t like rain. She’s afraid she will melt or something. Gavin doesn’t mind it one bit. It is fun to watch their differences when you take them out.
Patty will dash out under the shelter of the magnolia tree to do her business. Gavin doesn’t vary his routine no matter what the weather. Gavin is very set into his routines. One could almost say the dog has OCD.
If he’s not in his crate napping before 2 in the afternoon he is barking at me to make it so. The same thing with meals at the right time and bed time. Do not deviate from his routine. If you do you suffer his scolding. He’s a hoot.

It still takes a village if you can get the village to care

Years ago The Curmudgeon and I were a neighborhood safe-haven for kids after school. This was for any child in the neighborhood who found themselves locked outside with no one home.
This happens sometimes. A parent gets stuck in traffic, at the grocery store, or is running late and isn’t home when the child gets home. This was when we opened our door to the child instead of him/her having to stay outside in inclement weather, with bullying kids around, or when injured.
We weren’t baby sitters, we were a refuge when necessary.
Today we were one again when a neighbor’s child came home to find no one home, in ninety degree, humid weather. They don’t know us as the old neighbors did, and I’m sure he didn’t trust us. But I couldn’t bear watching this poor child swelter on their porch and called him over. I let him use our phone, sit in the AC house, and gave him ice water.
I hope his parents don’t make this a habit…

You could tell it was hot because…

The barking squirrel who scolded The Curmudgeon every time he went outside this past week was napping in the tree.

Now that’s a switch…
Posted by doggonedmysteries
I seldom go dashing into the bedroom to awaken The Curmudgeon, but last night I did.
It seems that when I flipped the switch on the back porch to turn on the light a snap, crackle, and popping noise came from it. I knocked it off in a hurry and ran to my nearest electrician. Yep, The Curmudgeon. He actually went to school for it way back In high school though he never did make a career out of it.
He told me to not turn it on for the rest of the night and he’d look at it in the morning.
Duh, like I’d hit that switch again after that.
Wouldn’t you’d know he forgot about it all day. I asked him if he’d fixed it at dinner and found out then. He worked on it afterwards. I carried a bar stool out there for him, helped remove the screws, and left the rest for him to do. I do not like to play with electricity.
Now when I turn on the light out there I don’t hear all sorts of bad noises. Yay, for The Curmudgeon on fixing it.

Lost in the house somewhere…
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Last Halloween I couldn’t find this prop. It seems I put it away the year before somewhere safe. Now you all know how that goes…
I decided that now is the time to start looking for it for this year. If I’m lucky I’ll find it in time for Trick or treat night. You all have a good one.

HGTV, stop it already with the Stepford McMansion people, please.
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Does anyone else think that the people on HGTV are a bunch of spoiled, egotistical, brats? I am so tired of seeing these over-privileged, over-paid, stinkers go house hunting, where they pick these over-priced McMansions to pieces.
“The paint color is awful” So paint it, you freaking idiot. “I don’t like the carpets.” Duh, can you not tear them up? Have you no eyes to
see past the cosmetics? The freaking house is huge and beyond gorgeous.
Holy crap people, I’d love to have half the house. I’d love even more to see them try to live in this house. Hahaha! I’d bet not one of them could make it a week. It takes courage to live in a normal, average person’s home.
Don’t get me started on the international house hunter program. ROFLMAO! To me it is more of a comedy show than anything else.
I’d kill to have one of these programs come in and make this place more functional and do the needed repairs. Does anyone want to redo my back yard, fill in the pond, and level the whole thing? Yeah, that would be too much of a miracle.
Hey, HGTV why not show us real people who have eyes and a modicum of common sense? No wonder I quit watching that channel a while ago.
You all have a good one!

Where are they today?
Posted by doggonedmysteries
The Curmudgeon was waxing sentimental this past evening, dragging me with him back to high school, a place I would just as soon forget. Only good that ever came out of that place was him.
Anyway, he was talking about old friends and started to wonder what had happened to some of them. Others we already know about or he talks to them still. One friend in particular stood out in those he had no idea what had happened to them.
I decided to try to find out. Wouldn’t you know, I found him on Facebook. I friended him and am hoping he replies. I can’t wait to see The Curmudgeon’s face when I say, “Hey, remember so and so? Well, I found him.”
Maybe I’ll be able to get The Curmudgeon to start his own Facebook page.
