If a vacuum no longer sucks is it still called a vacuum?

So after my Garry Vacuum blew the hell up the other day, I had to start looking for a replacement. Opinions abounded as to which one I should buy.

I researched and hunted through all names, brands and types. My criterion was we have two short-haired dogs who shed a lot, some rugs, stairs, and plenty of bare floors.

I have a husband who is careless about things that fall on the floor so the vacuum also needed to be tough.

My friend E had a young man do some research for me too.

Seems we both came to the same conclusion as to what vacuum would be most suitable. Although I am not happy with bagless vacuums, it looks as though the Shark Navigator Lift-Away Professional Upright is what we will get.

  1. I had two long hair cats. I used to go through a vacuum about every 18 months. Then I got a Dyson. I was able to get a refurbished one from Dyson so it was half price but with the same warranty. I’ve had it for 5 years now.

  2. Let me know how it works! I’m using a Hoover at the moment, but its on its way out. I’ve got 5 rabbits right now and a 100 lb chow-lab mix, so shedding is pretty much a constant clean-up, and most vaccums I’ve tried end up committing suicide after a few months in this house, especially Bissel.

    • I will let you know as soon as we get it.

      • Looking forward to it! The last sweeper I had, literally caught fire, and I had to run outside with it and throw it into the swimming pool. I used to use that carpet powder, and I think with the bagless models, you’ve got to be careful how much you use. Maybe that’s what happened. Anyway, looking forward to the review!

      • I don’t use those powders, they tend to cause Gavin’s allergies to flare. The Garry had bags. Something in it blew up. Loud BANG! and no more function. I’ll be glad to review the new vacuum when it gets here…
