Not to be paranoid but…
Posted by doggonedmysteries
All these companies are popping up saying they’ll test your DNA and tell you all about from where your ancestors came.
I do not want my DNA to be part of someone’s records with a Hitler like nutcase vying to rule this country.
A DNA database to direct these nut balls to your door to take you away. Just what we need. Did people not learn anything from Nazi Germany’s lunacy?
Color me not interested in a DNA test kit when we have written records in our family.
These are things that cross my mind.

So today is my birthday…
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Wow, sixty-two. It’s mind-boggling, terrifying, exhilarating, and freeing.
Some kid told me I was old. I responded, “What is old? Older than you? Oh, hell yeah. A lot of people are older than you. It doesn’t make them old. Old is dead. I’m not dead. Although… I did die once.”
Yesterday G took me out to lunch for my birthday. We went to Red Robin. I had their tasty Bleu Ribbon burger…
G had their A1 Peppercorn burger.
We both had their steak fries… And for dessert we had:
I had them skip the berries on mine…
The dessert arrived with a lot of clapping and happy birthday type singing. Yes, G says I turned beet red.
The food was delicious as usual there and we had a good time.
Here’s to moving on and kicking ass for another year.

Happy St. Paddy’s Day!

Some days I don’t mind grocery shopping
Posted by doggonedmysteries
I had to go grocery shopping yesterday, we were (almost) out of coffee! OMG! I really hadn’t planned to go until next week. However, the lack of coffee (other than flavored coffees) made making the trip a must do.
I normally hate grocery shopping, especially shopping alone. I called G to see if she wanted to go along, but she was visiting her brother.
Of course there’s always a list to fill, and I did fill it.
But the young guy who checked me out made my day. He was such a sweetheart. He saw me start to get into the line next to him and he called me over, what I didn’t see is his line was empty. Hooray, a quick check out. And this young man turned out to be a brilliant bagger, not one of my bags weighed a ton.
Simple meals for stressful days
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Between The Curmudgeon, the dogs, and my aches and pains especially with damp weather, I’ve resorted to simple and fast meals.
Last night I pulled a smoked chicken thigh from the freezer, thawed and chopped it up. In a sauce pan, I put 1 can of cream of mushroom soup, 2/3 a can of milk, cup of shredded cheddar cheese, 1/4 cup of Parmesan, 1 teaspoon of granulated garlic, 1/2 teaspoon of dried basil, black pepper to taste and heated it. While the soup mix was heating, I dumped some bow tie pasta in boiling water until done, drained the pasta and poured the soup mix over it stirred well and served with a nice mixed salad.
I’m soon going to have to go to one of my favorite stands at the farmers market and get some more boneless smoked chicken thighs. Best ever!

- Your friends stop coming around.
- Finding help to get things done is next to impossible
- The MS Society will give you token help and then disappear
- Once you find a good neurologist, you hang on to them
- Your friends stop calling
- Each day is a lesson in frustration and anger
- It is possible to both hate and love someone at the same time
- Being a caregiver is exhausting

Flower show
Posted by doggonedmysteries
G and I spent a few hours at the local flower show again this year. I forgot to take my camera. G had her cell phone and took a few pictures. She’s going to try to e-mail them to me.
Looking at all the hardscaping had me drooling profusely. I so want my yard to be done with hardscape, raised beds, patios, a small water feature, a fire pit, and a small patch of grass.
No one would even consider doing it a little at a time, which is the only way we could afford to do it.
This is from last year’s show.

Gavin at the vet’s
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Gavin was NOT happy to visit his friends at ABE Veterinary Clinic.
They consider themselves his friends but he’s not so sure about that. I had a heck of time just getting him into the clinic this time. In the exam room, even a tennis ball could not make him happy. He just wanted to get out of there and go home.
Dr. Ashley and her assistant had to wrestle him to check his ears and then put medicine in them. For a fourteen year old dog he’s hell awful strong.
Medications and his exam bill later, we were over three hundred dollars in the hole. However, his ears look better. His skin is improved (thank you Apoquel) his allergies finally seem to be under control.
I struggled to get him into the van to go home and to get him out of the van when we got there.
Once home, he wanted his tennis ball.
Nut-ball dog.

The money pit we live in
Posted by doggonedmysteries
As if being told we need to replace our oil tank wasn’t bad enough, now it’s the chimney too.
We need flooring, every wall inside needs painting, the kitchen is in dire need of an update. Let’s not even begin to discuss the bathrooms.
Yeah, the house is a 148 year old death trap.
Can we say let’s have a lottery win and move the hell out?
I hate this house and I truly don’t care that he’s lived here all his life.

Gavin and his 50 tennis balls
Posted by doggonedmysteries
The other day, I ordered fifty tennis balls for Gavin.
He’d popped his last one, and dig as he might through the toy box, he couldn’t find another one.
They arrived yesterday afternoon.
Gavin is a hoot. Any other dog would have gone for all of them.
Not Gavin. He took one out of the bag and played with that all evening until he had completely popped it in half.

How many alerts does it take to keep us on schedule?
Posted by doggonedmysteries
So we almost missed The Curmudgeon’s neurologist appointment.
He forgot to give me the date and time for the computer scheduling calendar and then he forgot to remind me the day before when his calendar reminder on his cell phone reminded him. (Deep breath.)
Of course when I saw him putting on shoes at ten in the morning I had to ask him what was up. I’m not sure if he thought he’d drive or not but yes, I exploded when he told me he had a neurologist appointment at 1:30. (Hours away.)
“And you’re getting ready to go now? Why the heck didn’t you say something last night?”
I crawled off the couch, took care of the dogs, went upstairs, showered, dressed and it wasn’t even noon yet. Only takes us fifteen minutes to get there in heavy traffic.
Sigh.
Oh and his neurologist is going to do the testing and stuff on my wrist. Feels good to know it’ll be done by someone I already know.
This one yells at us four times a day to take our pills.
