BBQ ribs!!!
Posted by doggonedmysteries
A Facebook friend gave me a fabulous recipe for ribs starting with a wonderful dry rub and then a slow cooking method. Well, I used the dry rub, had the ribs in it for 10 hours. Then I put them into my crock pot with sliced onions under them and I poured a small amount of apple juice into the pot. I cooked them on high for two hours and then turned them to low for three hours. The last hour, I slathered them with BBQ sauce. They were as yummy as they look.

Help wanted: Shopping for a new computer monitor…
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Okay all you electronics wizards tell me now, which brand computer monitor would you buy and why? LCD or LED? It cannot be any wider than 20.5 inches and no higher than 19 inches. That is the space into which it must fit. Plus, I do not have boatloads of cash.
I’ve been looking at two at Staples: A Gateway FHX2152L and a Viewsonic VA2212M-LED.
My Xerox LCD monitor is beginning to crap out. It has worked liked a dream for years. Now we have to turn it on and off twenty times before it will start-up.
You all have a good one.

There’s a skeleton sitting in my chair…

Here it is November the ninth and I still have most of my Halloween stuff out and about. In this house, there’s always some hanging about year round, but the majority is put away, except for now.
Some of my Halloween stuff works well for Thanksgiving and Autumn. 😀
I don’t put up Christmas decor at all. It is not my thing.
You all have a good one!

In memory of a very dear friend…
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Our dear friend Chuck died. The shock of the news hasn’t worn off yet and both The Curmudgeon and I feel numb.
We met Chuck way back in the early years of our marriage, about thirty-five years ago. He was a good friend to us all these years. I even worked for him for a time. When he finally found Gail and married her, we were there. When his father died, we were there. When his mother died, we were there. Although, during the last few years, we seldom got up to his place to see him, it never meant that we didn’t think of him often. It’s just that driving for more than a very short distance is often too much for The Curmudgeon.
I’m so glad we talked to him the other day.
Chuck, I am telling you now, we are with you again. We are missing you and hoping your passing was painless. No services for you, an idea I agree with, for I feel the same way about the whole business when I pass. However, that doesn’t mean I can’t lift a glass in remembrance of you and all the drinking we all did when we were young. *I raise my glass.* Goodbye dear, dear, friend. Go with love, go with peace, go with all the dogs and save us some good seats.
You all have a good one.

Election day.… I am so glad it’s finally over, that I really don’t want to watch the returns…. Surprise me tomorrow.

Don’t call me and try to convince me I should vote for your candidate today, or for that matter, all night last night. I’ve made up my mind. (Romney managed to hit us twenty times during our dinner last night and at least three times an hour up to two a.m.) Lucky for him, the calls were robotic and not human. I pity any human who could’ve called me by the end of that dinner hour, even more so, the one a.m. caller. They would have had an earful of the choicest of cuss words strung together most creatively and telling them where to stick their candidate…
Note to candidates in the NEXT election who want my vote: Don’t spend money driving me crazy with phone calls and TV ads, Don’t lie to me—I am not stupid or uninformed, and most of all keep away from mud-slinging.
You all have a good one! Don’t forget to vote.
Scrambled brain cells?
Posted by doggonedmysteries
I managed to write a couple of pages today. However, hours later, after re-reading them, I deleted over half of what I wrote. It seems as though my writing is two steps forward and three steps back all the time as of late.
I don’t feel as though it is a case of over editing either. It’s more like ‘how in the world could you write such crap?’ syndrome. I can’t believe how awful my writing is lately. It makes me wonder if it is the medications I’m on causing a short-circuit in my brain. I do stop another one in two weeks, when the pills run out. I hope it is the one that has my brain scrambled.
As it is, I’ll keep struggling to get something on the pages.

Let sleeping dogs lie…
Posted by doggonedmysteries
I love it when the pups dream. Gavin will often do puppy barks in his sleep. He has, on at least one occasion, howled in his sleep. That was hysterical. He didn’t wake himself but he sure woke up Patty.
Patty doesn’t say much at any time and during sleep she’s no different. However, her tail wags and her feet run against the side of the crate when she’s asleep. She also snores louder than Gavin.
Then there are the snores emanating from a certain lounge chair…. Yep, The Curmudgeon fell asleep in his chair again. I’m not going to wake him. Would you?

What is comfort food for you?
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Some days you want a simple dinner and nothing fancy. That was us last night. Comfort food. I made grilled cheese with bacon sandwiches and cream of tomato soup. We couldn’t believe how well it hit the spot for us.
We had so many large and somewhat fancy dinners all week, that was a nice change. Fewer dishes to wash made it real nice after having to wash many dishes and pots and pans all week.
I am sorely tempted to make simple meals all weekend to give me a break.
Comfort food, I think we all crave it most at this time of year. What is comfort food for you?

Sending good vibes to all our neighbors who are worse off than we are…
Posted by doggonedmysteries
As we watch news reports on all the devastation Sandy the Frankenstorm wrought, we count our blessings. Please keep those who were hard hit in you thoughts and prayers.
We lost a few tree branches, had some minor fence damage, and had some water in the basement. We got off easy.

We’ve muddled through
Posted by doggonedmysteries
After high winds and lots of rain we feel lucky that all we had, was some water in the basement, a few branches down from both the magnolia and tulip poplar trees, some panels of the solid fencing blown out, and a few center cross pieces knocked down on the side fence. It could have been a lot worse.
I’ve heard that a few friends have had entire trees fall down and crush vehicles. Ouch. Floods swept through many areas, so a wet basement in comparison is nothing.
Our electricity went off and on several times, enough that I stayed off the computer rather than risk having it on when the electric went out. Nothing compared to those who are still without electricity. We were lucky.
We still have rain.
The dogs were not amused with this weather.
You all have a good one.
