Was that an earthquake?
Posted by doggonedmysteries
My built-in Bullie earthquakes regularly move the stuff in my curio cabinet. It’s reached the point where I have actually taken that sticky stuff you find on credit cards and things they send you in the mail and put it on the bottom of a few of my knickknacks to keep them in place.
It sort of works. However, when I go to dust I have to pull it off the bottoms so I can move the things.
The curio cabinet’s glass is also in constant danger. Have you ever seen a Bull Terrier prance about with a large bone in her moth, whipping her head from side to side in a victory dance? “Whee, I stole my brother’s bone!”
Have you ever watched a Bull Terrier hucklebutt and nearly brain himself on a glass door?
If you haven’t, you haven’t lived with one.

If the dogs could have, would they have helped him to his feet?
Posted by doggonedmysteries
I wish we could predict or at least have some idea ahead of time of when The Curmudgeon will have a bad day. At least then I might be awake and downstairs when he can’t get up from the floor or ground.
I really wish we didn’t have to worry about that sort of thing at all. However, we do. He had a bad day today. He told me he had to sit down on the floor on the back porch for a bit yesterday morning when he felt as though he was going to fall.
Later the same morning, and still before I got up he was on the floor in the kitchen.
The dogs were no help. They assumed that he was down on the floor to play with them! The Curmudgeon says that Gavin kept poking him in the ribs and back while Patty tried to get in some kisses. They do love their Daddy. It’s bad enough that he was struggling to get up, but then, with a case of the giggles, it was even more difficult for him to get to his feet.
You all have a good one.

A long day worrying about Mr. Gavin
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Early yesterday morning I drove Gavin over to the Vet’s office. He was going in for X-rays and tests to see if he has stones in his kidneys or bladder. Of course I’d stayed up all night since that’s the only way I would’ve made it over to the office at eight in the morning.
I was so wired when I got home that I didn’t fall asleep until after ten-thirty. I barely remember The Curmudgeon coming into the room and telling me that he was going to drive over and get Gavin. That was somewhere around two in the afternoon. Yeah, I was that out of it.
The good news is, no stones. The bad news is, the vet has no idea what is going on with Gavin–why when he runs the urine tests there is blood showing. Something we’ll be puzzling over for a while I guess. Gavin shows no signs of being the least bit ill. We’ll keep an eye on him though.
You all have a good one!

Bull Terrier people and the crazy dogs that own us
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Lots of drama among my Facebook bull terrier people yesterday. Had the rescue of a little brindle girl kick some of the best ones into high gear and get her moving from Wyoming to a new home in Alabama. I sure do wish we’d had Facebook back when we were doing our many rescues. I never saw a Bullie get placed so fast. It was exciting to watch.
Another Bull Terrier person had an emergency when her silly boy jumped out of her Blazer and broke his leg. Poor baby, at his age the muscle is stronger than those young bones and with Bullies it is a common injury. These dogs don’t often use their heads for anything other than to keep their ears from knocking together.
Arthur will have some surgery and it’ll take a while for him to recover but he should be fine. However, his Mom might have a nervous breakdown before the cast comes off.
You all have a good one!

The canine alarm clock needs resetting
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Even the Curmudgeon knows better than to wake me before noon. Heck, I go to bed around five a.m. However, the last couple of mornings a certain white dog has taken it upon himself to become my new alarm clock.
Yesterday, he wandered upstairs and flopped outside my bedroom door at eleven. He’s not the sharpest tack in the cork board. He began by sighing loudly, then he rattled the door a few times. When that didn’t work, he sighed again. I knew if I didn’t get up and let him in the whining would begin next.
So there I was curled up in bed with a happy white dog on his back getting his tummy tickled…and people say they are dumb animals.
Elena was up and walking under supervision yesterday–three cheers!
You all have a good one.

My garden is pushing it…
Posted by doggonedmysteries
I know we’ve had some terrific weather this winter, but my spring flowers are pushing it now. I have daffodils and crocus springing up–hey guys, it’s not spring yet, slow down before the weather kicks your asses.
The weather reports are saying we’re to get snow again on Sunday. We had rain all day today and you know what that means.
Yes, I have mud. I have mud in the yard. I have mud on the back porch. I have mud in the kitchen. I had to wash the cover from the love seat because…Yep, you guessed right, I had mud on it along with elk antler gooey from Patty spending the day chewing there.
There’s muddy paw prints and Curmudgeon shoe prints on the kitchen floor I’ll wait a couple of days for the yard to dry a bit before I mop.
Ah, the elk antlers…Another story there. Yesterday morning the Fed Ex truck driver rang the doorbell and left a box of them between the doors. Gavin and Patty had never had them before so they didn’t really know what was in that box that The Curmudgeon left on my chair.
That soon changed after I came downstairs. They each got an antler. For the rest of the day we heard not a peep from them. They were happy, they were amused, they were chewing for hours! Finally Gavin got tired and insisted it was nap time. As soon as they woke from their naps, they were right back to the antlers. I think they like them. I’m glad I bought two each.
They removed Elena’s tube early yesterday and she’s breathing on her own. Let’s keep cheering her on.
You all have a good one.

New alarm clock
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Gavin has either taken it upon himself to be my alarm clock, or he’s decided that he wants some private Mommy time. Lately, I’ve heard him wandering down the hallway and flopping down in front of my bedroom door a little before I would be getting up.
Yesterday, The Curmudgeon remembered how I’ve often asked him to not let me sleep too late, and he came to wake me. Gavin followed, squeezed in the door past his Daddy, and piled on the bed with me. He was ready to settle in for a good snuggle when Patty decided to join us.
The disgust on his face proved to me that he’d wanted me all to himself. He got up, left the bed, and went back downstairs. He was NOT happy. Poor Gavin.
Patty, on the other hand, was happy. She got to bounce on the bed, make him leave, and then chase him downstairs.
I think that when I hear him flop down outside my door tomorrow and let loose with his usual sigh, I’ll let him in and close the door so Patty can’t ruin his cuddle. Sometimes he just needs some alone time with me.

No dog left behind
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Yes, Bullies are short bus dogs. Patty proved it yesterday. Not to be outdone by her brother’s ear hematoma, she came darned close to breaking her neck THREE TIMES.
It began in the morning when The Curmudgeon had Gavin outside and Patty was left to her own devices. The Curmudgeon came in and he found her poorly balanced on the radiator at the kitchen window. She was so intent on her balancing act that she didn’t hear him open the door. He asked her what she was doing. She startled and he had to grab her in mid-air to keep her from taking a bad fall.
Later, I took her outside and when she was ready to come in, she dashed for the door so fast that she missed a step. Had she not had a leash on I think she would’ve fallen off the porch steps. That was two.
Around dinner time she decided to egg Gavin into playing. She huckle butted around the living room, bounced up on the love seat, went to dive off and fell on her face. I started to run over to her, she stood up, shook herself, and gave me that ‘I meant to do that’ look that they all have. That was three.
Yeah, my dogs ride on the short bus.

A Gavin update
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Had Gavin at the vet’s this evening. He checked Gavin’s ear and wants to leave the stitches in another week to make sure enough scar tissue builds up to prevent this from happening again.
As usual, Gavin was not thrilled to be there no matter how many cookies he got. Yes, he’s a short bus dog for sure. His vet adores him even though Gavin will not look him in the face. Gavin will close his eyes to take a treat so he can’t look him in the eye.
When we got home He leapt about with Patty like a puppy. He was very happy to be home after the torture of having NOTHING DONE to him and many cookies.
