Save us from reality shows
Posted by doggonedmysteries
I watch TV for entertainment purposes. Therefore I do not watch reality shows that make me ill just from watching the danged trailers for them. No I don’t want to see how bad that poor sick person’s house looks. Nor do I want to know about someone’s horrible and weirdly sick addiction.
What people do in the privacy of their homes belongs there and not jumping off my TV screen.
I had enough dealing with a hoarders home when in my reality I had to clear out my MIL’s house. No, I don’t want to compare notes with the TV on whose house was worse. Entertainment? Oh, hell no.
I’m so glad I read and oh, yeah I write too….
You all have a good one. Me, I’m going to turn off the TV and go for a walk.

What I’m watching
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Out of all the reality shows, most of which can go away–far, far away, I do enjoy The Voice. I love the blind auditions and will be watching again tonight.
After The Voice, I’ll be switching to the Sci Fi channel to watch Lost Girl.
I didn’t watch the Super Bowl yesterday. I haven’t watched one for 37 years–since I’ve been married. I used to watch a lot of football when I lived at home. With all daughters at least one of us managed to enjoy watching the games with our father.
You all have a good one!

Whatever happened to entertainment?
Posted by doggonedmysteries
I find that this season’s new shows are all a complete disappointment. The big three networks have fallen on their faces and someone in each network needs to fall on his/her sword. If only the shows were as good as their trailers looked.
The thing is, I know there’s some fabulous talent out there. I meet brilliant writers all the time. Shame on the networks for taking the cheap and lazy way.
I watch TV for entertainment not to watch idiots make asses of themselves–read that as I hate ‘reality shows and dysfunctional celebrity crap.’
I want a good story. No wonder I spend so much time with my Kindle and computer and so much less time in front of the TV.

Let the TrueBlood marathon begin
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Back last year I preordered the third season of TrueBlood. Night before last I got an e-mail from Amazon saying they’d shipped it. It arrived yesterday afternoon. Yippee! Guess what I’ll be watching with DH every evening. I need to replay several episodes of the last season so we can get back into the story before we start the new ones. Oh heck, I’m betting we start over at the beginning again.
I got DH hooked on TrueBlood when I bought the first season. He was even looking forward to the second season when it came out. I’d no sooner told him that Amazon had said they’d sent the third season when the mail carrier opened our screen door and placed the package between the doors. Talk about a surprise.

Hooked on ‘The Voice’
Posted by doggonedmysteries
I was surprised. I’m not one for shows like American Idol or a couple of the other ones they have going. However, this show grabbed me and threw me for a loop. I really LIKE it.
I like the whole premise of not judging by the person’s appearance but going by their TALENT. Yep, they finally hooked me on one of those shows.

Where are these home improvement shows when you need them?
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Once we finish clearing the clutter from the MIL’s house we’ll have our work cut out for us. I could certainly use both of those curb appeal and design to sell shows’ help then. Maybe I should start haunting the local Home Depots and Lowes in the hopes of having someone walk up to me with microphones, TV cameras, and then asking if I wanted them to come to my house.
“Yes! Yes! I have just the place for you to tackle.” I’d do cartwheels and at my age and the shape I’m in that’d be amazing in of itself.
Follow me here people and you’ll see why I would do those cartwheels.
My in laws moved into their “new” house 38 years ago. After my father in law retired several years later, the house suffered from neglect. Dad didn’t do anything to keep the house up; instead, they spent summers off camping and going to flea markets. (Yep, that’s where some of the clutter and junk came from.)
Since his father’s death in 1998, DH and friends did what they could to keep the house from falling apart. I suspect it was about that time that my mother in law became enamored of QVC, junk catalogues, and anything sold on TV. Her hoarding life began anew. (Oh, yeah more clutter and junk piled up only now it was new and shiny.) My mother in law refused to allow any of us to come in to clean and paint the interior for her. I would’ve gladly done so.
Now DH can’t do the work, I’m not getting any younger, I hate to climb ladders, and our friends aren’t as young, energetic, and healthy as they used to be.
Cartwheels? Hell, I’d do handsprings.

Hooked on DIY Network
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Now that my TV gets it, I’ve become hooked on the DIY network. It’s my late night background noise while I write. Although at times, it does drag me away from the computer because it catches my interest.
DH and I had many plans of what we wanted to do with this house. Only one ever came to fruition and that was the pond. Maybe if we’d known sooner that his MS was going to kick his ass we would’ve jumped on those projects.
Now, instead I drool over ideas and projects I see on the show. A deck or patio? Oh, yes that would be nice. To see the kitchen and front bedroom stripped of wood paneling and neatly wall boarded and freshly painted? A pipe dream.
If any of those hosts want to come in here and do the work (free of charge) I’d let them. Tap, tap, tap…is thing on? Can you hear me out there?

The psycho Target lady is back
Posted by doggonedmysteries
I hated those commercials last year and this year’s are worse. In general, I’m not fond of Christmas commercials but psycho lady must go. She completely creeps me out. If she lived in my neighborhood, I’d probably suffer with nightmares or rather, in my case, daymares. I’d lock my doors when she was active and never offer her coffee—she’s very hyperactive as it is.
Other commercials that bug me are those car commercials. Tell me, how often do people give each other cars for Christmas?
Gentlemen, the push is on to have you buy the little woman jewelry. Hang on to those receipts so she can return whatever you bought. DH doesn’t buy me jewelry unless I’m with him because he knows I am very fussy about it.
Lest we forget, there are the little kiddies to remember. All the commercials are screaming buy them expensive electronics. They even have pricey electronics for toddlers. Oh, come on! Toddlers are happiest with the box the electronics come in or with a kitchen pot and a spoon to bang it. Save yourselves some bucks people.

Bad TV commercials
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Is it me or are the TV commercials getting worse? It’s bad enough when we’re assaulted by one bad erectile dysfunction medication commercial after another, but now it’s Christmas shopping commercials. Does anyone else find that blond lady on the Target commercials downright psycho? She’s enough to give you nightmares.
And don’t get me started on the mannequin with her jazz hands. Give me cute. Like the Armstrong Floor commercial with the skate boarding Bulldog. Give me snappy and witty but please don’t tell me to have a happy period. If Mother Nature ever showed up here to hand me a ‘present’, I’d slap the crap out of her.
It’s no wonder parents go broke at Christmas. Little Johnny and Janie are inundated with commercials for expensive toys they must have! Excuse me, but what child NEEDS a $30.00 cell phone? Children lose things! Heck, they lose mittens that are strung through their coat sleeves around their necks or hermetically sealed to their coat cuffs. Guaranteed you’ll be hearing about how they lost that phone within a week. You might as well go flush the money down the toilet, or go lose it at the gambling tables. It all amounts to the same thing.
There are no limits to the insanity.

USA network has another hit on their hands
Posted by doggonedmysteries
USA network has scored far above the competition for several years now. Their newest gem, White Collar is another sweet treat. The show is well written, witty, and has sparkling characters. Give me shows like this any time!
To Jeff Eastin, the creator and executive producer I say kudos and well done. Thank you for keeping me entertained.
All the other networks need to take a lesson from USA. Drop the reality shows that are long past their freshness date and stink. Quit rehashing the old, tired themes. Enough of doctors and nurses—I don’t find anything about a hospital entertaining. Done to death as well are the lawyer shows.
Go find good writers—hey, we are out here.

Gavin, Lee Lofland, Castle, and more
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Gavin’s face look less swollen today and he actually stole a Nylabone from Patty to chew on it for a bit. She was very sweet and let him take it. I think she’s as glad as we are that he’s feeling better.
I adore Lee Lofland’s site, The Graveyard Shift. Heck, I adore Lee. I met him at a Pennwriters conference. Last TV season Lee ran a critique of Castle every week—one of my favorite new shows. He’s started doing a critique of it again this season. I enjoy his insights and those of the others who comment there. Having a retired cop in the house, I see (or have them pointed out to me) most of the blips in the crime shows.
I’ve begun the fall cleaning cycle in my house. I tackled my desk yesterday and cleared it of an over abundance of crap paper work, magazines, and reference books that I put back in their proper places in the bookcase. I then dusted and cleaned the entire desk. Wow, I can see under my monitor now and the glass desk top gleams. Tomorrow I’ll work on the rest of the living room.
