Good night.

Fifty nine degrees at midnight December 24th/25th, wow!

Six out of eight episodes of Dr. Who later, we called it a night. Poor G couldn’t keep her eyes open after half a bottle of Prosecco, baked brie with cranberries and walnuts, caviar, mascarpone, and smoked salmon.

You all have a good one!

By 2:30 a.m. the temperature had risen to 63 degrees after which it began to fall to the mid 40s by 5 a.m.

Is it time yet?

G and I braved the crowds at the farmers market yesterday. She got a couple of things she wanted and so did I.

We hit the Amish bakery at just the right time. I snagged their last small mince meat pie for The Curmudgeon–it’s his favorite. All they had left in mince meat then was two tiny individual tarts. I also had to get one of their delicious bear claws–they are hard to resist.

One more stand, a one pound container of roasted Brussel sprouts with bacon topped out my bag and we headed home.

Looking forward to our girls night in tonight.

You have a merry, happy, blessed whatever you do.

Bahhing the humbug.

Yes, I do I really do Bah Humbug out this year. I get sick of Christmas carols playing from before Thanksgiving until the end of December.

People who have no sense and rush out to do inane shopping for things for people who are so greedy they demand expensive stuff and don’t appreciate anything drive me completely up a wall.

Rude kids and even ruder adults I can do without and this time of year brings them out in hordes.

Yep, Bah Humbug. You can keep it.

Happy and Blessed Winter Solstice to you all.

We had a nice Thanksgiving

The Curmudgeon prefers chicken to turkey therefore I made a roasted chicken. My special garlic rosemary one. It turned out tender and delicious, just the way he loves it.

Since it is only the two of us, we don’t fuss too much with ‘all the trimmings.’ For example I use Stove Top stuffing and I buy a pumpkin pie rather than bake one. I did make an orange cranberry bread though and the gravy is also made from the pan drippings just like Gramma taught me.

A side dish of collard greens finished off the meal with a lovely balance.

For those of you in the States, I hope you had a good holiday and I hope today is nice as well.

For those of you everywhere else, have a good one!

HPIM4216This is where Lucy spent the evening.

How the stores add to the high stress of having to shop during the holidays.

I hate shopping. Yes, I’ve said that many times but it bears repeating.

I had to make a ‘quick’ grocery store run for The Curmudgeon yesterday. I say quick with tongue in cheek. This time of year there is no such thing as quick.

It might have gone faster if:

a. The store didn’t have all those extra displays blocking the aisles.

b. The clerks were not moving slower than a snail’s ass.

c. People actually tried to not block the aisles while they catch up on old times with long-lost friends.

And finally

d. Idiots who only shop once a year would refrain from doing that.

Nothing like taking almost an hour to pick up a couple of items…

You all have a good one.

ChocovineI do believe it is wine o’clock.

Time to stop and say thank you once again

To all of you veterans, thank you.

So windy!

I hadn’t planned to take down the background yet. However, with the winds we had, the background almost took itself down. The furring strip I’d stapled it to was standing on end and wedged between roof and porch floor.

Yep, I took it all down. Then I brought all the fabric inside and folded it to put away in one of the large storage containers with the rest of the Halloween things. I even dragged the bins down to the living room.

There you have it, the decorations were going to stay up a few more days because I am basically a lazy person. Now, due to the weather, most of them are ready to pack away. I’m not sure if I should thank the weather gods or not. *Giggle*

Mwahahahaha!

HPIM4188Daddy, she was just kidding about making me into witch’s brew…wasn’t she?

HPIM4189Dis is just for photography purposes right?

HPIM4187Momma has to build her prop tomorrow. Right after she staples the background to a board so it doesn’t fly about.

Pictures can you guess what items are out year round?

The back drop is up

HPIM4184I ran out of get up and go and had to stop. It’s amazing how warm it was under that porch roof.

HPIM4183We found last year’s doggie costumes. I’m not sure how Lucy felt about that.

HPIM4175Gavin didn’t seem thrilled.

HPIM4179But dang they were so cute.

HPIM4176Really Ma? Pink bats?

It’s a race to the finish!

My kitchen table, stacked high with Halloween decorations for the porch, groans under the load. Two giant cauldrons are in the living room all filled with more stuff. Later, one will brim over with candy and glow in the dark bracelets.

A roll of chicken wire is on the back porch ready to become the giant-sized Audrey 2.

We are 1 day behind schedule so I will play catch up tomorrow and Wednesday after my appointment with my cardiologist.

I’ve reserved Thursday for cooking and final prepping the porch for Friday. The main decorations don’t go up until Friday, we had thefts in the early years and learned our lesson.

All day Friday, we’ll decorate and finish Audrey 2, hoping fervently we finish in time for trick or treating.

Tomorrow, the hanging of the landscaping fabric begins.

6 days to go!

The foam and spray glue arrived. I can stuff the Audrey 2 hand puppet so it fits on my hand and arm. We begin the big build Sunday with the back drop going up first. Oh joy, I get to climb a ladder all afternoon.

The back drop worked so well last year that I am looking forward to using it for our design this year.
