Week of preperations for Halloween
Posted by doggonedmysteries
The beef BBQ/sloppy Joe dinner is made and ready to reheat in the crock pot Friday.
Today G and I are going to pick up a couple of pumpkins to do some silly carvings–not the usual fancy stuff this year. I’ll do the carving Thursday night.
Wednesday I’ll do some last minute cleaning and get the house ready for Friday night. DH has picked out the Halloween movie to play–I don’t ask I wait and see.
I am undecided as to my costume this year. It might be what I wore last year, or I might do a Zombie costume. It depends on the weather, the Zombie outfit will be much warmer…after all it’s easy to layer clothes in that costume.
Until tomorrow…Boo Y’all.

Friday night the trick or treat invasion begins
Posted by doggonedmysteries
If you’re in the neighborhood on Friday night, come look us up. We’ll be the ones with the music blasting, strobe lights strobing, fog rolling, props a hopping, handing out tons of candy, trick or treat house.
As usual, after the trick or treaters have finished, we will have our monster mash. No party is complete without various Vampyre, Zombie Zin, and Howling Wolves vintages.
For the second year in a row will also be celebrating neighbor Dominique’s birthday with one of G’s special halloween birthday cakes.

When things go bump in the night…
Posted by doggonedmysteries
In this house it most likely isn’t a ghostie or a goblin, it’s probably DH dropping something upstairs. If not him, it’s a silly Bull Terrier rolling around in his or her crate.
Then again, it could be the neighbors we share a wall with, the one son does tend to jump those last few stairs–he’s done that since he was a small child and we’re used to it.
I say it most likely isn’t a ghostie because our last one left us a while back. DH’s grandfather stayed with us for a few years when we were first married. He died a couple of months before we married…. I’m sure he stayed just long enough to make certain we were doing okay. Once satisfied, he left.
I sort of miss the door to his old bedroom opening and closing on its own and things moving from one room to another.

Driving DH crazy, one day at a time
Posted by doggonedmysteries
I managed to drive DH crazy most of the evening last evening. My props arrived in the afternoon and I couldn’t resist playing with them…a lot.
Of course, he played with them too, but he’d never admit to it.

Getting spooky
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Only a few of the props that we have set up. My batteries died before I could get the rest of the pictures taken. I’ll take more when the new prop arrives.

16 days to Halloween
Posted by doggonedmysteries
We are somewhat ready for the hordes. Candy is stockpiled along with small toys. I need to drag props down from the attic. However, I’ve been on the lazy side and am thinking of bringing down only my better props this year and leaving the simple stuff in the attic.
What can I say? The idea of dragging it all back to the attic this years is the kicker. I’m thinking this is a good year to KISS it. (For those who don’t know what that means–Keep It Simple Stupid.)
Vampyre, Zombie Zin, Royal Bitch and Wolf’s Howl wines are waiting to be opened. I’m ready to party.

We’ve gone batty around here
Posted by doggonedmysteries
At least, we’re starting to. I finally got around to dragging the first several Halloween decorations down from the attic. The front porch is beginning to seem more Halloween festive with the orange and purple lights in black garland.
The spooky placemats are on the table and the spider goblets are ready for the several Vampyre Wines and Zombie Zin I bought yesterday.
I have to take my Japanese tea set upstairs and bring down the spider candlelabra to replace the tea set on the center of the table.
Gargoyles, spiders, skeletons, and ghoulish things are beginning to wander into the house decor. The dogs have stopped barking at the haunted mirror after two days.
Yes, we’re getting batty…

DH doesn’t do animatronic repairs
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Where’s a animatronic repair person when you need one? I’d forgotten that my barrel zombie wasn’t working. Now I have to figure out if I can get it working in time for my trick or treaters this year.
Maybe I’ll dress DH up and put HIM in the barrel.
Or perhaps someone wants to volunteer for the job?
I need to clear the plants out of my planters on the porch before the end of next month so we can stand there to hand out candy–the plants have taken over the porch.

We might not have these this year…
Posted by doggonedmysteries
A very poor pumpkin crop this year may prevent G and I from doing our usual fancy carves. So far the harvest looks bleak.

It’s only 88 days from now

A peek at an idea for you…
Brad surveyed the ancient Victorian home with a jaundiced eye. “If I hear one moan, one groan, or one chain rattle, I’m out of here.”
“Aw, come on. It’ll be fun.” I tugged on his sleeve leading him up the steps.
“Fun for you, maybe.”
“Yeah, I always enjoy hearing a big strong man scream like a little girl.”
“Keep it up and I won’t go in there.” He gave me a look that would curdle milk.
“We’re getting paid. Other people have to PAY to go to this house.”
“Remind me, why are they paying us?”
“The say their ghosts are angry about something and they want us to find out what it is before they open the house to the public for Halloween.”
“Yeah, that’s the part I don’t get. We’re private detectives not freaking ghost busters.”

Sláinte!
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Pat and Mick landed themselves a job at a sawmill. Just before morning tea Pat yelled: “Mick! I lost me finger!”
“Have you now?” says Mick. “And how did you do it?”
“I just touched this big spinning thing here like thi… Darn! There goes another one!”
May you have all the happiness and luck that life can hold, and at the end of your rainbows may you find a pot of gold.
May good luck be with you wherever you go, and your blessings outnumber the shamrocks that grow.
May the lilt of Irish laughter lighten every load. May the mist of Irish magic shorten every road. May you taste the sweetest pleasures that fortune ere bestowed, and may all your friends remember all the favors you are owed.

Happy Groundhog Day
Posted by doggonedmysteries
No shadow today! Does this mean that spring will soon be here? Or does it mean that the whole groundhog seeing his shadow is a load of crap?
I’m hoping for the former since we now have a coating of ice on everything.
Our power has flickered many times so I figure I’d better post this ASAP or forget it.
The dogs are not amused with the ice coating on the snow. I’ve been getting that ‘you want us to go out in that crap?’ look from them.
Y’all have a Happy Groundhog day…stay safe.
