One day falters into the next and the next…
Posted by doggonedmysteries
And the…you get the idea. It feels like Groundhog Day, the movie.
Each day is the same as the last.
Nothing changes.
The Curmudgeon perfected his drama queen routine.
I, on the other hand, am losing my mind.
My grip on my sanity is slipping away.

I got sucked in
Posted by doggonedmysteries
My mind has been so screwed up lately that I have become a prime target for the games they throw at you on the computer.
I’ve developed a need for mindless entertainment so I can keep a toe hold on my sanity.
I am ashamed to say I now have an Age of Empires addiction. I may need an intervention.

Don’t call before noon.

What is so difficult to understand about that sentence?
We tell everyone the same thing. Very few people take it to heart or understand that we really do mean it.
With as busy as the dogs and The Curmudgeon keep me jumping all day, I barely get enough rest until long after they all settle down for the night.
I seldom fall asleep before four a.m.
Therefore, it is no wonder I am cranky, bitchy, and mean as hell when the phone rings before I’ve had a decent number of hours sleep and coffee by the gallon.

A calm day is nice
Posted by doggonedmysteries
There’s nothing quite like a day without crisis, no drama, no dealing with idiots.
Oh wait, I lie. We did have a little drama. Lucy doesn’t like rain, we had rain all day. Lucy played drama queen every time she had to go outside to pee. Poor little special pup thinks she’s going to melt or something.
Gavin doesn’t care about rain, snow, sun, whatever. If he has to go out he has to go out. No drama.
The other drama was the fog. Wonderful, gorgeous fog. Yes, I love fog.

Bad back, bad weather, and exhaustion

I didn’t get all the cleaning done that I wanted to do before he got home. At least the bathroom and hallway are clean, as well as his bedding and his room.
If I can keep him from under my feet I might get the rest of the house cleaned well enough to keep my sanity on an even keel.
Spotless? Nope, not my house. I don’t have the energy to do that.
Maybe I could if the house weren’t half a wreck. Decent flooring, walls, and ceilings go a long way to make it easy to keep clean.

No more winters…or I’m getting too old for this shit.
Posted by doggonedmysteries
The past year or so I’ve been spending a lot of time browsing homes for sale in warm, beach areas.
As of the blizzard of 2016 and 31.9 inches of nasty white stuff, I am looking with all the seriousness one can have when one is ready to get the heck out of Dodge.
I told The Curmudgeon it is time. We’ll fix up the house to sell and find a new life somewhere where I can thaw out and play on a beach for what life I have left.
I will not suffer through another winter.
Another Curmudgeon update

Looks as though they plan to send him home on Monday. I wonder if I will have my car out of the driveway by then. (Tuesday or Wednesday would be easier…)
If not G’s car is plan B. Anyone volunteering to get him and bring him home is plan C.
Just my luck, Monday is also the day the guy wanted to start work on the porch. Plan C is looking better every minute.

Diary of a crazy lady: Day three after the blizzard
Posted by doggonedmysteries
The street is still blocked.
Idiots parked cars in the middle of the street blocking the snow plows from clearing it. More idiots shoveling more snow in front of my driveway. Maybe I’ll get out come spring.
Cabin fever set in. If G hadn’t stopped in, I may have gone completely around the bend.
The Curmudgeon called and we argued. Seems we do that a lot lately.
Think I’ll go cuddle with Lucy on the couch. She’s waiting for me.

If it isn’t one thing…

The news on The Curmudgeon isn’t great.
He has C-diff now. http://www.webmd.com/digestive-disorders/clostridium-difficile-colitis?page=2
In my opinion he probably had it since he landed in the hospital the first time in October, but they didn’t catch it with the tests. And yet even with him still suffering with the runs, they sent him home each time, every month since, saying it’ll clear up with the probiotics they told us to buy.
It didn’t.
Now we have a blizzard of epic proportions according to all the weather reports. A snow emergency is on so I won’t be in to see him until after things clear up a lot.
That’s okay though because since we had a clogged chimney and the back blow from the oil furnace covered the entire inside of the house in oily soot, I have plenty (more than plenty) of work to do.

Finally! Porch repairs look imminent.
Posted by doggonedmysteries
We found someone to fix the porch!
For a couple of years we’ve been looking for someone to fix our porch, contractors came and went, each telling us the job was too small for them to do.
We sort of gave up and hoped we’d be able to get a friend to patch it.
However, when the bottom step fell off in October we renewed the search with vigor. Praying the city wouldn’t see it and fine us.
Every contractor we called did not call us back.
Once again, I began a search, and again, no one would consider the job.
We thought we had someone through a friend of a friend, but we never heard back from that person. Then someone else found what looked like a promising lead, sent it to me, and that contractor also did not call back.
In the wee hours of last night I went on a hunt vowing to do it all night if necessary.
A search of cement porch repairs found “Porch.” Once on Porch, I punched in my project, zip code, and other information. Today we had a call and a warm body show up at the house, and by 6 p.m. had an estimate in hand.
Yes, he’s hired.
All but the back pieces and that piece on the right on the bottom step are gone now.

The Hello Crow
Posted by doggonedmysteries
The cemetery next door is a winter home for a rather large murder of crows. Because of this we have to walk the yard before taking the dogs out to find and clear up bones and other garbage that the crows and squirrels drop in our yard. Both creatures scavenge from open trash cans around the area. (Too bad people can’t keep the cans covered but instead risk people’s dog’s health…if I miss just one bone…)
Yesterday while out with Gavin, I had the pleasure of meeting our old friend Hello Crow. He’s part of the murder and has been around for many years. We know him by his distinctive ‘Hello’ which makes us believe a woman raised him. His ‘hello’ is a fairly high pitch and quite clearly a hello.
He sat high up in the tulip poplar and said hello to us many time. I, of course, responded in kind.
I’m sure the people passing by thought I was completely strange, but I don’t care.
