Baby steps
Posted by doggonedmysteries
No we haven’t added any kids to the house. I mean taking baby steps to get things back to a semblance of normal around here. If you could ever call our household normal.
I decided to give away a bunch of glassware this weekend. I feel the need to pare down the clutter. I figure that once I get the clutter down, it won’t take as much effort to clean the house. I pray that this is not wishful thinking.
I think we might even have a yard sale this summer so I can clean out the attic and basement. Why hold on to so much we know we’ll never drag out of there to use ever again?
However, before I do a yard sale I need to toss out the useless junk that has also accumulated in those areas. I don’t think my garbage men are going to be very happy with me over the months to come.
You all have a good one!
Updates, or things to write about when I can’t think of anything to write about…

So the roofer is almost finished with the garage roof at the Mil’s house. I hope this means we can put it on the market soon. I haven’t done anything over there since the heart attack.
I still need to get the last two pieces of furniture out of that house and over to my house. We haven’t had any luck finding helpers. I’d be willing to trade a large Lane cedar chest for help in moving the two items and clearing the attic.
I keep hoping that the elves and faeries will have taken care of everything that needs taking care of over there. I really don’t want anything else to do with it.
You all have a good one.

Happy birthday to me!
Posted by doggonedmysteries
I never thought I’d be quite as happy to celebrate a birthday like I was when I was a child. However, I am! I am happy, tickled, delighted, and beside myself with joy that I am celebrating my birthday today.
For those of you who are just starting to read my blog, I must tell you that I have good reason to be this excited. I had a heart attack back on August 17, 2011. I almost didn’t make it to this birthday, but by cracky here I am!
I’ve made lifestyle changes that I hope will give me many more birthdays. Today I celebrate!
I will dance and sing like no one is watching and listening. I will get silly any time I desire to do so. I will laugh. I will find joy wherever I can. I will speak my mind. I will choose my family and friends and will love them fiercely.
You all have a good one! I know I will!

Implosion imminent!
Posted by doggonedmysteries
If the warranty runs out does it mean the item is soon going to implode? In our case, I wouldn’t be a bit surprised. That would be a normal occurrence.
Nothing is made to last these days. Planned obsolescence is on what today’s manufacturers depend. Appliances no longer last thirty years as they did in the past. Today, you are lucky to have things last more than a year or two.
We received notification yesterday that our ‘new’ washing machine’s warranty will soon run out. What????
You all have a good one.

When I was a child…
Posted by doggonedmysteries
I loved to take things apart to see how they worked. Under no circumstances was that ever encouraged. I was scolded or punished when caught. I was a girl! Girls don’t do that! They would give me another Barbie doll or some such thing. I hated Barbie dolls. For Pete’s sake would it have killed them to give me an Erector set?
Had I been a boy, I probably would’ve been encouraged for having such curiosity.
If you’re punished and scolded enough you stop doing those things that brought the world down upon your head. As fascinating as mechanical things were to me, I quit exploring their internal workings.
If I’d been encouraged, sent to classes for this, who knows what wonders I would have brought forth?
If you have a daughter, never tell her she can’t do something amazing. I might have done something spectacular with a little encouragement and support.
You all have a good one!

These days, I want a luxury hotel…
Posted by doggonedmysteries
I couldn’t tell you what year it was, but it was in the early 1960’s. We lived on Elmendorf Air Force Base near Anchorage Alaska. Summers we went to King’s Lake and stayed at an old homestead cabin for a few weeks. We also spent another week or two at the church camp across the lake.
The homestead cabin had no running water except for what you could pump using the old hand pump. No toilets, you had to walk back to the outhouse and watch out for bears and other wild critters on the way. The stove, an old wood burner, made for some interesting meals.
When our paternal Grandfather came for a visit, I think he really enjoyed ‘roughing it’ at the lake. That’s him in the pictures.

So we still haven’t won the lottery…
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Darn it. This means we still have the old house, the old vehicles, The Curmudgeon still has his old, dull false teeth, and bills are still cluttering my kitchen table.
If you won the lottery what would you do first?
First thing I’d do is I’d send the Curmudgeon off to get new teeth so he can actually chew a steak for change–poor man hasn’t enjoyed one for a while.
Once that was out-of-the-way, I’d probably get my dental work done. There’s a couple of things my periodontist would like to do for which we just haven’t had the money.
Then, well… I dream of a new house where The Curmudgeon wouldn’t have to climb stairs, and a yard so securely fenced that we’d never have to worry about the dogs going outside off the leashes.
New furniture would be nice too. We sure could use a couch bigger than the love seat we have now, and some chairs that aren’t total wrecks would be nice too.
A new car for me–I’ve never had one, mine were all used cars. The Curmudgeon has had a few new ones and seldom drives now.
I have simple tastes.
You all have a good one!

We have some updates today
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Elena is home! Welcome home Elena! Doing a happy dance here! I got to talk to her on the phone.
Arthur TheBullterrier had his leg surgery, is doing very well, and he should be going home today. Arthur’s Mom will have her hands full keeping that 7 month old quiet.
Kokomo the rescued Bull Terrier who needed transport across country has several people who volunteered for a few legs of her journey. She could still use a few more transporters. It looks as though her trip to her new home in Alabama will definitely be on March 10 and 11th. If you’re interested in helping, you can find out more on my FB page.

Writing while flinging birds
Posted by doggonedmysteries
I admit it I am addicted to Angry Birds. I think I need an intervention because now Facebook has added it and I am playing on there as well as on my two computers.
I find that when I should be writing, I crave a game or two. I think I found a way to write and fling those birds. I have decided to use a reward system. For every hour I write, I will earn five minutes of pig killing bird flinging fun.
It is difficult to write when the brain isn’t working right. However, I am trying.
You all have a good one.

Why are my electronics revolting?
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Have you ever had an electronic device that completely drives you up a wall? Along with my printer I have another one of those now, my Sansa Clip. Actually, I’ve had this problem for a while and did write (scathingly) about it once before. However, I recently bought a teensy memory card for it in the hope that it would solve the problem …NOPE, no such luck.
This has to be one of the most frustrating, aggravating, pieces of crap I’ve ever had. The damned thing still won’t download any music for me. I was so looking forward to having the frigging thing in working condition so I could listen to music while walking. I do so need to start walking again and if I have no one to walk with I want music.
I am just stubborn enough to drive myself completely bonkers with this thing rather than go buy some other MP3 player.
You all have a good one while I either take a hammer to this thing or make it work.

OOOPS!
Posted by doggonedmysteries
It was one of those nights where things got away from me. I almost forgot to get in here and post. Yeah, I’m not the brightest light in the harbor at this time. My thoughts are scattered in all sorts of directions.
I wish I could say that Elena was out of the hospital but I can’t. She is still on target to get her breathing tube removed sometime today. Let’s hope that is the beginning of her quick recovery. I do miss her comments in here.
She’d be delighted to hear you all have been rooting for her. Let’s keep it up.
You all take care, keep well, and have a good one.

Techno I don’t think so!
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Yesterday, my friend’s Iphone took exception to her language at it and hung up on her. The nerve of it! If my phone were to do that to me it’d be under a sledge-hammer tout de suite! No mercy no matter how much it begs.
When I say that my computer is the brains of this outfit, I am kidding. At least I hope I am. It’s only hooked to the internet and not to every appliance and light in my house. Imagine if your computer ran your house and got pissed at you? There are countless examples to choose from in books, TV, and movies. Think Hal in your home or better yet, Eureka’s Sarah the house on Sci Fi. No thank you very much.
Most cars come equipped with computers. A very few advancements on those and, well… Will they drive my car next? What if I have an argument with the car? Does that mean that if I want to turn right and the computer thinks that a left turn is all the better to do me in, I hit that wall?
I wonder, are my desk top and lap top computers listening to this? Maybe it’s time I went off the grid….
