The right to privacy

I no doubt upset a niece yesterday.  I did not intend to do so; I was merely defending my right to privacy.  She had posted a childhood picture of me online and had tagged it with my name.  (Another relative posts childhood pictures of me with no consideration and she refuses to take them down when asked to.  She’s not a nice person.)  This is the first time this niece posted a picture of me and I think I shocked her by my protest.  However, I do not apologize for my actions.

Do we not have very little privacy left to us as it is these days?  You will notice that on my blog and Facebook page there are very few pictures of me.  Could it be because I don’t want them out there?  Why yes!

I consider my right to privacy as valuable as yours is.  I’m sure you wouldn’t appreciate me posting bad pictures of you or your private thoughts on the web whenever the mood strikes me.  I will ask your permission to post a picture or a quote before doing so.  I expect the same courtesy in return.  Yes, it is courteous to ask one’s permission.  In my case, it is also a copyright violation to post any of my stuff without my explicit permission.

Coming up…

Next week it’s The Curmudgeon’s birthday.  I’m not sure what we’re going to do for it.  Perhaps I’ll drag him out for dinner.

Next week I also have a cardiologist appointment, I hope he tells me I can stop the one medication that has given me such a dry cough.  Without it I’ll sleep better since it is the cough that now wakens me at all hours.

Gavin has an appointment on the 23rd to have his stitches removed.  It’s also G’s birthday, I need to do something real nice for her after all the help she gave me over at the MIL’s house.

I knew it was coming but…

Price Pfister F0364DSS Treviso Double Handle Kitchen Faucet, Stainless Steel

I’ve had a kitchen faucet and sprayer on my Amazon wish list for quite a while.  I finally had to order it last night.  Our present one had a minor leakage problem that suddenly got worse.

I wasn’t ready to buy the faucet.  We had a few other things we planned to buy first.  However, this constant switching of priority repairs seems  normal for around here.  I’m just glad I had one all picked out and I don’t have to scramble to find exactly what I want.

Once you buy a house, there’s never an end to spending money to keep it in good repair.

Now the top priority, which was porch repairs, is second on the list.  It will have to wait a while longer.

Squee!

It’s funny how help often appears out of the blue

I took Gavin outside for his last pee last night and ran into an old friend I hadn’t seen in many months.  She and her husband were walking their GSDs past the house.  I’d forgotten she was a real estate agent and that her husband is an estate lawyer.

We got to talking and things came around to my heart attack, stress, the MIL’s house, and all the confusion we had over estate law.   Suddenly, I had a great offer of much-needed help!

Her husband is going to hand hold The Curmudgeon through all the ins and outs and get everything done that needs doing with the estate and she is going to sell the house for us!

It feels as though a mountain of crap lifted from my shoulders.  The Curmudgeon is happy to deal with people we’ve known for over twenty years and I now feel better than I have for quite a while.

Today I was a tourguide

I tend to forget how large our local farmers market is until I take a visitor there as I did today.  I rather enjoyed watching my ‘adopted son’s’ jaw drop when we walked in the door and heavenly aromas hit him.

We walked down one side and back up the other.  He snapped pictures and tasted a few samples as we walked along.  We stopped at a local winery stand and tasted some wines.  We both bought some.

He kept wishing for more time because our time was limited.  To do the place justice you really need to have enough time to do one walk-through and then another one or two to stop at different stands to buy items.

I love going there.  Although, some days, I do tend to spend a bit more than I should.   How can you not when there’s so much good food all around you?

The year ahead

As I look forward to this new year of 2012 I wonder what’s in store for us.  I do hope we don’t have a repeat of 2011.  This year I haven’t made any resolutions.

Last year was filled with much sorrow for The Curmudgeon when he lost his Mom.  Then the overwhelming stress began for me in dealing with the hoarded mess that was her house.  I never would have been able to do as much as I did over there without G’s help and the help of Nancy and her family.  I’ll never be able to thank them all enough.

I don’t need to repeat ‘the heart attack’ that was way too scary!  I hope my health will continue to improve this year.

Please 2012 do bring us some nice weather so we can go outside more than we did last year.  We had so much rain and wind we barely got to enjoy the yard all summer.  Our lawn is mostly dirt now since the rain caused the grass to die off in large areas.

I hope this year brings much joy to all of you.  Many hugs!

When it rains it pours?

Last week during the rain, I had to go outside and retrieve our recycling cans from the street.  I unlocked the gate and, since I had Gavin on the leash, took him with me.  All was fine until on the way back in as I was walking down the wood ramp my feet went out from under me as if I was on ice.  I landed on my butt however, most of my weight went on my left wrist.

Hours later, after icing the wrist a couple of times, the pain was enough to prompt me to go to my doctor.  X-rays proved I didn’t break it but I did sprain it.  Thus, the brace on my wrist.

Then, later that night, as I went to post these pictures, my phone line broke.  I had no phone (other than the cell phones) or internet.

I finally have my phone line repaired and my wrist is healed now too.

Two steps forward three steps back

It’s amazing how far behind one can get when one isn’t paying attention.   I’ve left a few things go and now they are no longer small chores they are huge jobs to do.

I keep telling myself that one of these days I’ll get caught up.  Now I truly wonder if that will happen.

I still need a couple of people capable of carrying furniture and the use of a truck to move the armoire and dresser to my house.  I also need the roofer to finish fixing the danged garage roof at the MIL’s house so I can call the realtor.

Why does the laundry seem to pile up faster each week?    Why can’t dinners cook themselves?  Why is it that as soon as I clean the kitchen floor it rains again?

Maybe I should go crawl into a couple of good books until spring….

Almost finished with the street work

The road work in front of our house is almost finished.  I might be able to go somewhere now.  A trip to the grocery store comes to mind since my list is twice as long as normal with not being able to drive out of here for two weeks.

I find it unfortunate that they are going to leave the street with poorly done patches.  This means they’ll be back here several times over the next year repairing their patches.  If they’d do the work well and correctly the first time the city wouldn’t be wasting our tax dollars all the time.

All they need to do here is run a steam roller over the repairs and things would be fine.  However, they didn’t do that, and from what they told me, they had no plans to do it.

Thodeepught

So while thodeepught, I remembered that I hadn’t done my post for today.  My brain hollered, “Go post!”

What to post?  I have no idea.  Do I post about another day trapped because of the street work?  No, I think you’ve heard enough about that.  A dog post?  Patty did torment Gavin all day yesterday.

There’s nothing to new about the gardens and pond other than the frost finally got all the plants.

The Curmudgeon is being his usual Curmudgeonly self.

Should I make a new list of subjects for posts?  I wonder if my readers have any suggestions?

Have you figured out the title to this post yet?

Trapped again

Day two of street work brought another rude jack hammer awakening and having our driveway blocked all day.  With an entire street to park the back hoe and trucks on, yes, they had to block the only driveway–ours.

I won’t go to the grocery store until next week because I refuse to shop on a weekend, especially this time of year.

However, I do hate feeling trapped and we certainly have been that for the last two days.  Therefore, I might take a trip to the farmers market if I feel like braving the crowds.

I didn’t like the ‘new’ alarm clock

Yesterday, I crawled into bed around 4:30 in the morning–nothing unusual for me there.  I was enjoying a deep sleep, REM sleep, dream filled, restful, ahhh sleep.

For four hours, I truly had a good thing going and then the jack hammer started right below my bedroom window.  Oh, for sassin frassins sake!  I stuffed my head between two pillows and tried, really, really tried to go back to sleep.  The Jack hammer continued.

I rolled out of bed, slammed my window shut, and got dressed.  The Curmudgeon was extremely kind because he knew I was ready to kill someone.  He had a cup of coffee waiting for me by the time I hit the bottom step.

Ever since that gas explosion they’ve been replacing gas lines all over town.  It’s our street’s turn.  Trucks and a back hoe blocked our driveway all day–we had no chance to go anywhere.

This is going to be a fun week since they are going to dig up the rest of the street.  Sleep much?  I doubt it!  I’m gonna be a basket case by the time they finish the work outside.
