Please let her subscription run out!
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Saturday’s mail brought us another Saturday Evening Post magazine that I didn’t ask for. I’m glad it doesn’t come in my name because then I’d have to pay for it. No, it comes in my Mil’s name. No matter how many times we’ve sent cancellations in to them it still keep coming.
I E-mailed them again tonight and got a quick electronic response. I do wish the human element was as responsive.
What I sent…
Hi,
We’ve made many efforts to cancel my deceased mother-in-law’s subscription. We’ve been trying to cancel this subscription since her death on 3/7/11. Yet, here again yesterday another magazine showed up in our mailbox. Take note people…
***insert her name here***
IS DECEASED!!!!
Stop sending the magazine and the damned renewal notices!!!!!
She never lived at the above address. When she went into the nursing home, we had her mail switched to our address for our convenience–we didn’t have to drive to her house every day in addition to going to the nursing home.
Sincerely,
M.W. Hauser daughter-in-law and disgruntled writer who is not thrilled with your nonsense
What they sent:

My reply:
Dear SEP Customer Service,
I’ve been on this merry-go-round before.
Sincerely,
MW Hauser, disgruntled daughter-in-law and writer who loves to blog about these situations…

I still want my old desk top
Posted by doggonedmysteries
I’m glad The Curmudgeon shies away from using my new lap top. This is a good thing because it means he’ll leave it alone all the time once my old workhorse is back home. Yeah, the lap top is cool, but I’m used to my desk top and I miss it.
I did have a difficult time getting used to the mouse pad, so when I am using the lap top at my desk, I hook my mouse up to it.
I have no idea how long my old work horse will be in the computer hospital–not much longer I hope. However, if he can save most of my hard drive he can keep it for as long as he needs to.
I still want to shoot the malicious turd who malware bombed me. I had some pictures on that computer I hadn’t saved to my flash drive yet. {Sigh} I hope they aren’t lost forever. Hell, just shooting them isn’t good enough–they should suffer through a bunch of torture first then get shot.
You all stay healthy and have a good one!

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2011 annual report for this blog.
Here’s an excerpt:
The concert hall at the Syndey Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 13,000 times in 2011. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 5 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

Some days I need a cat fix
Posted by doggonedmysteries
On those days, I go to G’s House. She has three cats, two are antisocial but the third one is my buddy. This is Smokey and he weighs 27 pounds. He loves attention. When I come over, he runs to greet me, and then leads me to the treat can…

Never a dull moment and always a bruise or two…
Posted by doggonedmysteries
I took a shower, pulled on clean jeans and shirt, went downstairs to have some coffee, breakfast, and head out to buy groceries and dog food.
In that short amount of time before I left to go to the pet and grocery stores, my clean jeans acquired muddy paw prints, dog slobber, and my shirt held some spots of coffee. I always look so fashionable at home.
I had four new bruises on my legs from Gavin jumping into my lap (thus the wearing of the coffee) and Patty had managed to squash my big toe in her rush to get to the back door first.
The dogs had my first yogurt since they’d tripped me and made me drop it. I got the second one to myself…thank goodness for baby gates.
Carrying in groceries would be a real trick if it weren’t for dog crates. Especially since I carried in a forty pound bag of dog food and a bag containing dog biscuits and two new Nylabones. Yes, the singing began when they caught the first whiff.
That was my day…How was yours?

Incentive helps
Posted by doggonedmysteries
The Curmudgeon carried the ladder upstairs yesterday. This was a hint for me to take down the light fixture at the top of the stairs. I’ve put this off for quite a while, but night before last the second light blew so I needed to replace both of them.
(Another reason I put it off was it was filthy from the leaky roof–which is now fixed.)
Therefore yesterday afternoon I went up the ladder, took down the glass fixture, washed it, replaced the two light bulbs with new energy-efficient light bulbs, and put up the clean glass fixture.
Oh my gosh, I forgot how bright that light was. Now I can see how dirty the stairs and hallway are…
I bet you know what I’ll be doing today.

Time to whip myself back into shape
Posted by doggonedmysteries
I find that my muse has completely jumped ship. She’d better get her butt back here soon. It’s as though my brain caught a computer virus and shut down. Not a good thing.
I’m thinking that I probably need to jump start my creativity with a good infusion of writing exercises. In other words, my brain needs to get some exercise. Come to think of it so does my body, the no smoking has added a few pounds.
Oh, how exciting, me a lazy person, has not only quit smoking, but I am now going to exercise both brain and body.
You, my dear readers, might be subjected to some writerly exercises for a while until my brain gets the idea that it is NOT on vacation and MUST work. You will also be subjected to me bitching about exercising my body.
Be prepared, it’s going to be a bumpy ride. This isn’t going to be pretty.

Plenty of sunshine and bird watching
Posted by doggonedmysteries
We had another lovely day with plenty of sunshine and breezes that kept the temperatures from climbing to the uncomfortable range.
A large flock of gold finches spent the afternoon munching away at the Echinacea seed heads in the side garden. They were determined to get their fill. They never went far from the flowers even when the dogs were out.
The cardinals brought their latest hatch of young ones to the yard to flit from tree to tree. It looks as though the males outnumbered the females in this bunch.
It seems as though the robins and wrens have left early for their southern vacation. I hope this doesn’t mean a long and extemely cold winter for us.

My very strange Wednesday
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Wednesday started like all my other Wednesdays of late with a slight modification. I got a call from a man interested in buying the tool chests I called G and she wasn’t ready to go over so I went over to the house alone. I sold the tool chests then I did some work over there and went home around 4:30.
I got home in time to feed the dogs at five. Then I cooked our dinner. After dinner, I went outside to work on the pond where we have a couple of plants trying to take over that I trimmed back. While working I began to feel not well. My chest burned my throat and jaw burned too. I sat down for a minute. The pain didn’t let up.
I went inside, grabbed two aspirins, which I took immediately, and then I sat in my lounge chair and told DH to call for an ambulance. Knowing me, and how I feel about hospitals, (hate them) he dialed 911 immediately. This was a little after seven.
The fire truck, its crew, and the ambulance with paramedics livened up our sleepy little neighborhood. During the ride in the ambulance, I was given four more aspirins and two nitros. Leads were applied to my body, IVs were started, and I was at the hospital in minutes.
They say I didn’t have the myocardial infarction until I was in the cardiac cath lab a mere twenty minutes after I had DH make the call for an ambulance. I now have one stent and they were surprised to find that my cholesterol levels weren’t all that bad.
Saturday they sent me home. I tire easily right now. Therefore, if I don’t post every day for a few weeks don’t worry, DH is being strict with how much time I can be online.

They don’t want to go to sleep
Posted by doggonedmysteries
It’s been one of those nights. Neither dog will go to sleep. If it isn’t one it’s the other.
“Need to go out.”
” Want attention.”
“My ear is itchy.”
“Bark, bark, bark…I heard something.”
“Wanna go out again.”
Dang dogs! GO. TO. SLEEP. It’s four in the morning!!!!
