Gardening day.

We had a lovely day yesterday. Mid 80s fabulous breezes. Perfect for me to get some work done in the yard.

I didn’t get a great deal done but enough to make me happier.

I ran the weed eater in the pond area. Gee, maybe one day I can stop saying that when we finally get it level.

Then I cleaned out some of the weeds and suckers under the sweet gum tree and trimmed a few low hanging branches off the magnolia. I still have plenty more to do.

Looks like today will be the same routine and maybe I’ll actually get some of the mulch down.

You all have a good one!

I now have two of these wind chimes. I love them!

How does your garden grow?

My potted garden is growing well. I have peppers coming on my pepper plants, tomatoes on the tomato plants, and blossoms all over my little cucumber plant. The eggplant hasn’t any blossoms yet but I don’t expect them for a while.

Now if only we can keep the squirrels away from them, we might get to have some fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, and eggplants.

Anyone have any fool proof squirrel chasing tactics?

Crash my yard please.

I’m hoping that, after I run a couple of errands today, I can do some actual yard work. I need to weed the gardens and get the mulch in before there is nothing there but weeds.

I’d like to transplant a few more things from the pond area so maybe I can get someone in to rototill that area flat. I’d love to get started on revamping the yard so we can get some use out of it.

Oh, if only yard crashers would show up at my door and work a miracle! 😉 My yard is in dire need.

It would be nice to get it to where The Curmudgeon could come outside and enjoy it. Or, perhaps to where I can find some sanctuary from him when he is driving me crazy.

Projects…

My roll of 99 feet of crystals arrived but Amazon says it’ll be mid July before the watering can gets here so that artful garden project is on hold for a bit. http://craftsbyamanda.com/2013/09/watering-can-pours-crystals.html

next projectThe watering can I have on order:

The watering canNow what to do with 99 feet of crystals if the watering can never does get here.

Any ideas?

And then there was sun and warmth…

The dogs and I couldn’t be out enough yesterday. Today is supposed to be even nicer. HPIM2898

The tree will soon look like this if yesterday is any indication. Soon after that we’ll have full bloom going. Today I am spending most of my day outside.

Even a couple of hours away is a good thing

A few hours away from the house is like a mini vacation for me. I already feel calmer than I have in the last few days. They were a bitch and so was I.

G and I went to the local flower show. We had a great time even though this year’s was the smallest it’s ever been. I talked to several ‘hardscapers.’ I have dreams of redoing the yard into a more functional (for The Curmudgeon) patios and pathways, raised garden beds, more private, and dog friendly yard.

I found a garden piece at the same stand I bought one from two years ago. Love it! Is it two or more than two that make a collection? I might be starting one. 😉

Last call for plants.

Yesterday I moved my iris and day lilies that I plan to keep. G picked up the plants she wanted. Now I have to get the rest of the plants off the pond area so I can begin the process of leveling the yard.

I have one stella ‘doro day lily, two other day lilies pictured below, and a rather large yucca plant that need homes. There’s also a large clump of zebra grass and a miniature lilac plant I need to re-home, but they are safe where they are for now.

If only a giant could step on it.

I still am having trouble seeing what’s left of the pond area becoming a level lawn. I have no idea how I am going to manage flattening out that hilly area all by myself.

Should I plant some magic beans, grow a bean pole, attract a giant and have him stomp the hilly part flat?

I tried to have a ‘flatten the hill’ party, but no one was interested. Just like no one is interested in a large clump of zebra grass, a large Yucca plant, a Stella D’oro day lily, Lily of the Valley, Sweet Woodruff, and one of two miniature lilac plants.

I guess I’ll have to do a yard sale, take the MIL’s jewelry to a jeweler and sell it, and then, maybe, I can afford to hire someone to come in and fix the yard.

Anyone want to buy a few jewel encrusted fancy schmancy watches? 😉

HPIM3986Most of the hill is cleared (3/4s of it) And the vines are off the arbor and fence.

Squirrel 6 us 1

Baited the Havahart trap with the tomato the squirrel stole off the vine, chewed on, and dropped as he tried to run up the tree with it tonight.

Damned thing, I hope he’s just dumb enough to go for it. He’ll find himself transported to a new life.

He’s almost completely stripped us of tomatoes. Makes me so mad since I had my heart set on enjoying them.

Guess what was in my garden

HPIM4019We’ve had a little visitor the last few days. She’s quite enamored of the red flowers in the garden. Too bad I can’t get a picture of her, but she’s too fast for my little camera.

You all have a good one!

Lots of work ahead

HPIM4028Now that the rain has stopped

I have my work cut out for me.

Lots of weeds to pull and transplants to do.

This is just a small part of what I have to work on.

You all have a good one!
