Busy day…

HPIM3940Before

HPIM3944After these three plus one bins filled…

HPIM3943

HPIM3942Yep, I worked hard again today.

Still didn’t touch the back corner…

HPIM3935All that mess on and around the arbor must go.

I am tired…

Right after I finish posting this, I am going to go take a nice shower. I can’t stand myself. Why? Well, I worked my buns off cutting down and putting all the vines from the shed in trash bins.

HPIM3922The vines were top-heavy and pulled the trellis down along with the drip guard of the shed.

HPIM3921Four big bins worth. I topped the bins off with a couple of tulip poplar branches that were over the hood of my van. Maybe now the birds will stop pooping on it.

Bye-bye pond

HPIM3893This is the pond all filled in.

Next, move plants, then level the ground.

I will miss my lovely pond.

Wanted:

Volunteers to help move plants and level lawn.

What’s really going to happen:

No one will help.

Some plants will get moved.

Some will get mowed over.

I’ll work my ass off for the rest of the summer just trying to get the yard level.

Picture Saturday

HPIM3717All of these plants need to be moved, some of them I am keeping, the rest are free for the taking.

You dig and you can have them.

HPIM3723Changes are coming for this yard. I need to make it less yard to mow and more hard scape.

HPIM3722Decking, patios, raised planters, At least I have enough plants to use.

HPIM3721Bleeding heart is already twice this height as of yesterday.

HPIM3720Game patio and hammock hideaway?

HPIM3719wrap around deck with a patio below?

HPIM3718before drastic drop in temperature and snow the other day.

HPIM3724Afterwards.

HPIM3725And these were some of the better looking ones.

Yard Crashers welcome!

The magnolia tree got frosted this year. The last two years it managed a full bloom without getting frosted. Not so lucky this year, the poor tree was about 1/2 in bloom when the temperature dropped to below freezing and we had a small amount of snow. All of which managed to turn the lovely pink blossoms into ugly, nasty brown gunk hanging in the tree.

Good thing, fewer petals to rake up this year. Bad thing, fewer flowers to enjoy the eye-catching beauty of and the splendid fragrance I will miss out on.

I have succeeded in addicting The Curmudgeon to the Yard Crashers, Desperate Landscapes, and other programs on DIY network. Too bad he can no longer do the work. He’s been very interested in my ideas for making the yard more garden and less grass, raised beds, wrap around back deck, and patio.

yard scrabbleI still want this!

It won’t be long …

HPIM2924And the front garden will look like this!

Now we have only greens peeking through and crocus blooming.

HPIM2923Looking forward to this!

And, Yes, the skelemingoes are up year round.

In the starting gate…and…it doesn’t open.

I am going crazy waiting for the weather to get nice enough where I can do some of the much-needed work in the yard. We’ve had cold days, rainy days, but no suitable for gardening days.

Today was sunny.  I thought,”Oh joy! Gardening time!” However, when I took the dogs out, the wind made it too chilly to stay out for long. Yes, after this nasty winter, I have become a wimp about the cold.

I need to transplant many plants from around the pond to a holding pattern in the side gardens until I can get the raised beds built. Once we strip the pond garden of plants, we need to do something with the pond liner, i.e. cut it up or slash the crap out of it so we don’t have a boggy area in the yard. Anyone out there feeling destructive and want to volunteer for that job?

You all have a good one!

Making connections.

Love it! Reconnected with an old friend on Facebook yesterday. She used to live two doors down from me. One of her 2 daughters is my second God Daughter. I hadn’t heard from any of them in quite a few years. Last time I saw her and her husband was when I had to change flights at their local airport, had a two-hour layover, and they met me there. That was delightful!

I’m not looking forward to my number one hardest work project of the year that is coming up now that the weather is getting nicer.

I’m hoping to have a few people come by and remove plants which will cut down on my work a bit. Need to pump water out of the pond and figure out how we’re going to fill it in.

Yes, there will be either liner removal or slashing of the liner. I will pay any volunteers in good food and great appreciation.

You all have a good one!

Volunteers?

104_1727These are not from this year. I did take some pictures today, but didn’t get them downloaded. This is where my garden is now, except it needs to be cleared of leaves and winter wind-blown crap.

104_1739The garden looks worse than this and is in dire need of mulch. We didn’t get around to mulching it last year at all. What mulch you see here is gone. All I have is tons of leaves.

Since we are planning to fill in the pond, I will be moving many plants this spring. Any volunteers, willing to help me get my pond filled in and gardens in shape, will get plenty of chances at iris and other flowers that need splitting.

I am looking forward to this in the next few months

Even with coffee the brain doesn’t seem to want to function tonight. It has been a rather strange day any and all writing I attempted fell to the wayside. I hope you all will forgive me and enjoy some garden pictures instead.

Mapping out the Spring projects.

I’d be delighted if I could get half of the stuff done I need to do out in the yard and in the house. Once the ground thaws I’ll need to begin to fill in the pond, level and grade the yard away from the house, and start building raised beds.

I will put down a rather large patio area to keep the dogs and The Curmudgeon from tracking in mud all the time. I want raised beds to make it easier to enjoy my gardening. All I need left in grass is an area big enough to play a rousing game of Bocce.

I will miss our pond but it is time to move on and make things easier for ourselves.

Inside the house, I need to get moving on painting the entire interior.  Ah yes, now all I need find is the energy to do all of this or volunteers to help me.
