A crazy dream

My yard is so out of control I am ready to call in the professionals.  If we’d have a couple of days of cooler, dry weather, The Curmudgeon and I might be able to run the mower and trimmer.

We’ve had rain, rain, and more rain with just enough sunshine to make it humid and hot.  Of course that means the grass and weeds are growing like mad.

My gardens are in dire need of weeding.  I never did get them mulched, so I am paying for that error now.  I think after the leaves fall and once the yard is cleaned up, I will start stock piling mulch for spring.

What I really need is several strong and eager volunteers to clean everything up, fill in the pond, and level the yard.

Yeah, I can hear you laughing.  I am as well.  As if that will ever happen.  *Giggle*  Not in my lifetime I’m sure.

My big gargoyle is buried under weeds as are my bronze herons.

The harvest from the potted garden so far…

So far we’ve enjoyed several fresh tomatoes, even gave G a couple.  We’ve had two nice eggplants.  One we had a week or two ago and one we enjoyed for our dinner last night.  We might get two or three more from the plants if the weather holds up.

We did not get more than  two lousy looking peppers, the early and long  heat destroyed the plants.  I replanted the one pot with romaine lettuce and that is looking rather nice so far.

I planted two pots, that are small enough to bring inside, with rosemary.  First sign of frost in they come!  We’ve enjoyed the pots of fresh rosemary, chives, and basil all summer.

Will I be able to move tomorrow? We’ll see.

I should have gone to the grocery store, but I figured that can wait a while.  We have no idea how long we’ll keep these cooler temperatures.  The day was pure bliss.

I made a few inroads on the pond garden, filling two of my three trash barrels, ran the weed-eater all over the edges of the yard.  (All is ready for The Curmudgeon to mow if he’ll get off his can and do it.)  Came in the house shaking with exhaustion and drenched in sweat.  I rested and went back out.  Four more times I yanked weeds and ran the weed-eater until its two batteries died, taking short rest and water breaks in between.

Funny, while the weed-eater was running, the frogs would sing with the noise.

I didn’t get outside our fence but since I don’t see it, I don’t care.  The city can fine me, but when they do, they’d better fine the apartments and the cemetery too.

Redeep, redeep, croooooaaaak!

The heat we had not only kept us inside in the AC but it silenced my frogs.  Yesterday we had cooler weather and singing frogs.

The Curmudgeon remarked that we have at least one very loud frog out in the pond.  He hadn’t heard them yet so the volume of the frog’s song startled him.  (Wish I’d seen that.)

While I was out making an inroad into the overgrowth of weeds around the pond, one frog decided to serenade me.  Later another one sang me his song.  Both voices are distinctly different.

Writing is a struggle now.  I hope you all don’t mind the pictures I took out in the yard today instead.

Pictures: blooming in the garden today

Slowly getting the veggies in the pots

I wish I’d taken the camera outside with me yesterday, the oriental lilies are beginning to bloom and the bright orange color sets the garden on fire.

I haven’t finished planting all the veggies and herbs, and I haven’t even started on the flowers for the front porch.  Half of yesterday we had rain and then when we finally had some sun I managed to get some of the plants in pots.  Not all of them as my back began to scream at me to stop.

I hope that later today I’ll be able to finish more of them.  I don’t think the front porch pots will be done though.

I also think I am going to have to make a run to a store for another big pot or two.  :\  I’ve got on big pot left on the side of the house to plant and too many plants.

You all have a good one!

Really? Rain again?

We had rain all day again…I accomplished nothing.

Pictures are from Friday.

If you look close you can see my new solar lights in some of the pictures, they work well.  I love how they change colors.

If my back gets better, my garden should too.

If you are going to spam me, at least spell the line of crap message you are trying to sell me, correctly.  😀

We had a gorgeous day today and G and I went to another nursery where we found the composted potting soil I wanted, sunflowers and bright red geraniums for the pots out front and some nice rosemary plants.

Thank goodness for my neighbor’s kids , they hauled the bags of soil into the yard for me.  My back was not up to lugging six forty pound bags around.

My back didn’t allow me to plant much yesterday but there’s always today.

You all have a good one!

Let the veggie garden begin

The last few years, due to lack of energy, strength, and help, I’ve cut my veggie garden down to a few pots instead of the large plots I used to have in my yard.

Yesterday, on my way home from the grocery store, due to road construction, I passed by one of my favorite little intercity nurseries so naturally, since I had no frozen foods, I stopped in.

She always has wonderful plants and in forty years, her plants have never failed me.  I bought three varieties of tomatoes, two eggplants, two varieties of peppers, and a bunch of Basil plants.  I would’ve bought more but she only takes cash or checks, and since I didn’t have my check book along, and what I bought nearly cleaned me out of cash, I had to stop.  Dang it.

Today I have to go get more soil for my pots so I can finish planting what I bought…

You all have a good one!
