First we had snow…

Then it turned into freezing rain…

HPIM4271I not going out in that crap!

You know it’s cold when…

Lucy spends every minute she can rolled into a fuzzy blanket burrito.

When Gavin wastes no time outside and scurries in immediately after emptying his bladder.

I dread going out to start the cars tomorrow because I forgot to do it today.

Your bones ache.

The furnace seems to run constantly.

You have to wear a sweatshirt even with the furnace running all the time.

Cold cold cold weather.

Lucy insists on wearing her hat and coat to go out, this little pup is no fool. Gavin has a wooly coat, thanks to his Nova Scotia birth, and he doesn’t mind the cold one bit.

Ten degrees with a windchill dropping us to minus four. Yep, cold.

I’m done with winters. I want to be here.

Escape from snowbound street imminent

Another day or so and we might be able to get out of here.

However, getting my van out of the drive may not happen for a week or so.

Good thing G has a 4 wheel drive vehicle so we have a way.

A trip to the grocery store, farmers market, and Target are on for tomorrow.

OMG snow

We had a record snowfall of 31.7 inches. I can’t even clear enough space out the back door for the poor dogs to go poddy. Neither dog is amused by this turn of events.

The Curmudgeon is happy to not have to deal with any of this.

Global warming anyone?

The sixteenth of January we hit 50 degrees in Pennsylvania.

Yes, we’re getting colder weather over the next few days, but the warm days we’ve had are way above normal for our area.

I promise, I am not complaining. I hate winter.

However, no matter what the vacuous ‘there is no such thing’ people say, it is a real thing and we need to work towards a solution.

great idea for snowmenSo far this year we haven’t had a chance to do this…and I am fine with that.

Once dark fell, so did the temperature

Warm day for January, we hit 61 degrees. Sort of funny, the back porch was so cold that the windows fogged up on the inside.

It would be nice if the porch were a finished and heated room. However, it is not. It is strictly a closed in porch made of cement block with a cement floor. Yep, that spells cold in cold weather.

In a normal winter I can use the entire porch as an extra refrigerator. 😉

Since night fell the temperature plummeted to 36 degrees.

HPIM4762Dat’s okay I habs me blankie.

I’m just not a winter person

We had such nice December weather that I’m not looking forward to the upcoming cold weather of January and February.

I never liked being cold even as a child. Sure, I could ice skate and ski but did I want to? Nope. Breaking my arm on ice skates was the best thing that ever happened to me, it gave me an excuse for not going out in the cold.

Lucy agrees with me. With it down below freezing last night she went out and peed faster than normal.

Freaky weather

Wow, strange weather yesterday. All around us, we saw on TV, that high winds took out trees, some looked twisted, so I’m betting it wasn’t only high winds.

We were lucky we just had monsoon rains and hail the size of golf balls.

Lucy had no desire to go outside in the monsoon no matter how badly she needed to pee. Poor girl held it for hours.

Gavin didn’t care, if he had to go, he went out and went.

The Curmudgeon napped through it all. He sort of looked like Lucy here.

Spared the worst

Wow, we thought we were in for some real nasty weather.

Thunder crashed in the distance. The sky blackened. Wind picked up and made the tree branches dance.

We had a spatter of rain. The clouds moved off. The thunder still rumbled and complained in the distance.

I had to water my tomatoes and other potted plants.

That’s okay. South of us got whipped hard with high winds tearing down trees and heavy rain. We were spared even the cutting of the switch.
