A few things I have learned…
Posted by doggonedmysteries
- Cracked ribs take exactly six weeks to heal.
- Six weeks can feel like forever…
- If a dog is going to get sick or injured it usually happens on the weekend.
- Bad things come in threes.
- So do good things.
- If you really want/need a nap, everyone and his brother will phone you or knock on your door.
- Friends are often closer than family.
- Telling the truth is easier than lying.
- All you truly have in this world is your word.
- People have forgotten about honor, respect, and honesty.
Fried brain
Posted by doggonedmysteries
It seems that not enough has happened this past week so The Curmudgeon had to go overboard. He didn’t tell me he fell again the other day and smashed his ribs into the side board of his bed. Well, he did. Yep, looks like he cracked a couple of ribs again. Worse thing is he’s come down with a bit of a cough with it. Uh huh, that hurts.
His moans and groans are epic and I swear Gavin mimics him once in a while to garner attention. Thank goodness for bedtime around here, a time where I get a little break in the chaos, unless The Curmudgeon can’t fall to sleep, then the chaos continues.
I long for a day of silence. Not complete ear ringing silence, but the silence you find at a beach when you are the only one there, or in the woods in the early evening.
I don’t want a running commentary of what is playing on TV. I am in the same room and trying to do something not pertaining to the TV. Please don’t tell me about that stupid commercial for the four hundred and thirty-seventh time.
By the end of the day my brain is fried into a crispy non-functioning pile of cells. You all have a good day.

Patty is not well
Posted by doggonedmysteries
I guess we didn’t have enough stress in this house. Day before yesterday Patty did a lot of whining all night, very unlike her, poor pup. (Gavin is the whiny butt in this house.) Therefore my instructions to The Curmudgeon was that he make an appointment for her at the vet’s first thing in the morning.
We took her to the Vet’s. A new vet since all our vets retired from the practice. Thank goodness she has French Bulldogs and is familiar with how stoic the bully breeds are. Too stoic, she would not tell her doctor where she hurt. All the vet could tell was, she had less range of motion than normal when she moved Patty’s head up, down, and side to side. Not one yip or whine did the pup make in front of her new vet. Not a good thing. She showed her doctor nothing to give a hint to the degree of pain she’s in.
A listen to her chest found a new problem, a heart murmur, stage 4. Now we know why she almost passed out while rough housing with Gavin a few weeks ago. After her syncope incident I wouldn’t allow too much play on her part.
She’s medicated, still whiny (at home), and on plenty of rest. We hope we can at least relieve her pain and get her feeling better.
Now I have to keep track of The Curmudgeon’s medications, my medications, and Patty’s medications.
Would it be possible for us to have at least one stress free week in the future?
You all have a good one and please keep Patty in your thoughts. She can use the help.

Wet weather
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Lots of rain brought flooding to many areas around here. We’re lucky, our house is on a high point. Even so, our basement got wet. The ground is so saturated there’s no place for it to drain.
The poor pups were very unhappy campers with more rain yesterday. I think Patty is feeling waterlogged. Gavin would look out the back door at the pouring rain, heave a big sigh, then go out three steps into the yard, and pee as fast as he could.
The wet weather is making The Curmudgeon miserable. He’s had to take break through pain medications for the last three days.
As I listen to the rain start once again, I am looking forward to a couple of sunny days.
You all have a good one.
Mom says we won’t melt in the rain, but we don’t believe her.

Loving Jim Hensons creature shop challenge
Posted by doggonedmysteries
My new favorite TV show! I think from the beginning I’ve been cheering Melissa on. She is such a cutie and her work is marvelous. I am so glad she’s in the final four.

I’m hoping to learn a few things while watching the show that will translate into better props for our Halloween displays.
You all have a good one! And check out the show…

Lighting candles for our neighbors in the midwest

Tornadoes have once again ripped through several states and cities. Our thoughts are with our neighbors. May the days get easier, the storms fewer, and may relief, shelter, love and comfort come quickly to you all.

We have a new roof! Jimmy, the new roofer, promised me no more leaks. I told him I’d hold him to that. He’ll be the first person I call if we have any water dripping.
I can’t tell you what a relief it is to have that taken care of at last. We had years and years of our old roofer patching and making the old slate roof last another year. We just couldn’t afford to replace the entire roof at his prices.
The new roofer is more reasonable in price and faster too.
No more leaks! That means I have fewer excuses to not get my painting done.
You all have a good one!
Patty and Gavin say, “We was berry berry good, we did notz bark at all the noise and vibberationing. Momma and Daddy are proud of us.”
Gone fishing…well, not yet but on Monday!

Welcome to my circus
Posted by doggonedmysteries
One of those days where if I hadn’t had a chance to get out of the house I may have later been picked up by the men in the white coats. Even the dogs were getting on my last nerve.
Had the pleasure of my dearest friend’s company for lunch and a market stroll. Afterwards I felt somewhat normal.
Of course, my normal is everyone else’s nightmare. Our household is a total circus on a good day and I am the ringmaster.
I so need decent weather so I can get out and work in the yard. The pond is so full of leaves and water I could easily hide a body in there… hmmm.
I iz innocent Don’t believe da Momma.

No roof yet
Posted by doggonedmysteries
The roofer’s son had his gall bladder out yesterday morning. We had sustained wind at 35 mph all day. In no way did I expect any roofing to be done. It will get done when it gets done. I have faith in this man.
Cardiologist appointment went very well. Cholesterol level is excellent and all else is great. I don’t go back to see him again for six months.
Had KD Lang and Jane Sidberry’s duet ‘Calling All Angels’ running through my head all day. Don’t ask me why. So here’s an ear worm for you today.

Short note this time.
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Since I usually write these in the wee hours of the morning, and I know I won’t be up in the wee hours this night. I am popping in early to leave this note.
Today I am off to my cardiologist (morning appointment and I don’t do mornings…) While I’m gone, the roofer will be working on the roof. His son didn’t have pancreatitis, he had gall stones which at 7 a.m. they removed.
Now I’m off to finish washing my dinner dishes and taking the dogs out so I can get to bed early and make it to my doctor appointment on time.
You all have a good one!
Something pretty to start your day.
