Never write your blog after wine O’Clock

I started my day with a quick run to the doctor’s office pharmacy. I needed to refill my Advair. What I love about my doctor is that he trusts me and treats me like the responsible adult that I am. I e-mailed, “hey, I have 4 days left I need a refill.” He replies almost immediately, “Done.” No fuss, no “are you sure?” He doesn’t treat me like a child.

Next I had to call Lucy’s vet to schedule a quick look at her. She had what looked like a mild seizure last night and I knew she should be checked even though after all the drama, Miss drama llama seemed fine. And she checked out fine, although, down the road, I do believe she should have an EKG.

Once I got home, I relaxed with a book for a while on the front porch. I didn’t get a lot of reading in, I enjoyed being distracted by the hummingbird battles over the two feeders.

“I declare ownership of the two feeders,” chirps spotted tail boy.

“Never! I claim them for my lady love and me.” Black back Ruby throat chirps back.

The battle grew to consist of five combatants and two female observers. Two battlers hid in hanging plants to sneak into the feeders behind the others. They chased each other constantly, sometimes skimming right past my head. They would fly in a violent spinning dance of exquisite tactics and maneuvers.

The book got set aside. The dance going on in front of me was more exciting. I watched the wicked sword fighting aerial ballet until dinner time.

After dinner, I poured a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon Blanc and dove back into the book. Hours later, I remembered I had planned to post here…

It scares me, I am not ready to let go

Lucy had what looked like a small seizure tonight. This is the the third time in two years.

I carefully checked her over, she didn’t pee or poop herself. She looked like she was off balance on a level floor. Her ears were held askew, her gums were pale, her body tense, her legs splayed and held stiffly.

A few minutes later, after holding and talking to her she seemed back to herself. It’s been the same each time.

It scares me. I am not ready to lose her. It’s too soon after Jay’s death. I am afraid of what the vet will or won’t be able to find.

Continuing Improvements

  1. I have ordered the kitchen counters. It will be a while before they get here.
  2. I fired an electrician who never bothered to show up since May.
  3. I hired an electrician who will put the fans on the porch, switch out fans and lights in the living room and guest room, he’ll also do yearly maintenance on my HVAC units.

I painted my fireplace.

And I think I have finally found the back story on my new character…

I seriously hate this new format!!!!!!

Anticipation…

I am impatiently waiting for my new table and chairs to arrive. The new table is rather small in comparison to the old one. But for the tiny space I have, it has to be.

Even though I wanted a round table I couldn’t get the one I wanted. It was out of stock. So, I settled for this one:

20200728_214217 I can drop the leaf and push it against the wall when I am alone. Takes up a lot less room.

The chairs I bought would also go with that round table I liked that was out of stock. If I don’t like the table, I can always sell it and get the other one if it comes back in stock.

My view tonight

IMG_20200731_222742Can I, once again, say how much I love my house?

I especially enjoy the sun porch I added on. Seems I spend most of my time there.

I added even more trees to my yard this week (the Fuyu Persimmon finally arrived with my pear tree.) I have another Snow-N-Summer™ Asiatic Jasmine Shrub coming (check FastGrowingTrees.com for it) to go next to the porch with the first one. 2nd picture below.

I love my spacious front porch with the gate to keep Lucy safe.  I had all the hedging removed and have planted flowers. I was delighted that the one bush I didn’t have him take out turned out to be a huge gardenia bush, third picture big bush, all the way at the end.

The grass is growing well in both the front and back lawns. No more huge patches of dirt or mud tracked in.

My office still looks tossed together and one day soon I hope I will improve on that. But that will come after new kitchen counter tops.

The best thing? I am contented.

Much accomplished in a day

Spencer and Elizabeth returned today to get the master bathroom door on, it is so neat.

They then got the silk screen up in my office.

Spencer and I planted the persimmon and pear trees.

They re-did my headboard with the legs on it this time and wow, does it look great.

Elizabeth also walked through the entire house touching up the wall paint wherever she found a scrape or scratch.

Tomorrow they plan to give the gate on the front porch a “raise” to stop it from sagging.

There are plans to put up the new mailbox pole too. If they have time.

So many things to do so little…yeah, let’s not go there…

The sun porch floor was finished, things moved back in, it is lovely.

Then they did my shower!

I am dying to use it but I have to wait for the glass guys to come with all the glass first.

Grouting has begun.

As I type this Spence and Elizabeth are grouting the finished floor on the sun porch.

The tile is coming…the tile is coming!

They are working on installing a tile floor in my sun porch today. Lucy is delighted her friends Spence and Elizabeth are here, but is not happy that she needs to be in her crate. A. Lot.

I am looking forward to having an easy to clean tile floor on the sun porch. Rough cement is not conducive to easy cleaning. I am also looking forward to the new look for the floor.

Once they finish the porch it is on to the master bath where they will remove the old bathtub, enclosure, and floor, replacing it with a fully tiled shower with a bench and a glass door along with all new floor.

So for now, my house is topsy-turvy while the porch contents take up space in my living room and all the supplies are stacked on my front porch.

Lucy is not happy about being in her crate all day with frequent potty breaks out front.

I am doing my best to stay out of the way. It’s not easy since I did tiling for several years and I hear the sounds of them cutting things away in preparation…

Things I miss…

There are things I miss, most I have missed long before Covid19 rained on our parade.

Hugs, I miss hugs. I can’t remember when Jay had stopped hugging me but it was a long time ago.

Dancing, we danced together since my Jr year of high school. However, once his MS began to mess with his balance all bets were off. Now I dance alone.

Music, and I am making up on that lack since I got Alexa installed. He was always watching TV and would gripe if I played music. Couldn’t use my headphones because he’d bitch I couldn’t hear him, as if he ever talked to me any more other than to give orders, the last several years.

I miss going out to lunch. I don’t leave the house these days.

I really miss socializing. Being with a bunch of people–listening to several conversations at once, especially if they are writers. There’s nothing better.

Stay safe  Wash your hands and keep your distance. We can do this.

No electricity, tornado watch on, and it is 2:47 a.m.

The electricity went out over an hour ago. Lucy is medicated and in her crate because of the thunder. Candles and battery powered lights are on.

Too damned quiet between booms of thunder. It startles me this way. Pillows, blankets, fresh water stashed in the guest bathroom just in case. Worried about all the meat and veggies in the freezer. Even more worried about a tornado. This is so much easier to handle when you’re not alone.

Definitely not feeling the romance of the candle light.

Time flies

I just realized it’s been almost a month since I have written anything here. Ouch. This is not like me.

Lucy and I are doing fine in our new digs. And we just had our first overnight guests. The Uncles came for a short visit.

We weren’t able to do much because of social distancing but we did have a great visit.

This was the first time Lucy met them and she was smitten.

I know this because after they left, this is where I found her.

She was pouting.
