I can hear the theme for Jeopardy…

Today I spent the entire day trying to keep my mind off my offer on the Baconton house and everything my realtor here has already planned.

I played with Lucy, I cleaned, purged, and cleaned some more.

Every break I took it was “throwitthowitthrowit!” time.

She’s really gotten into this game.

She’s so stinking cute.

The magnolia is in bloom, the daffodils are too.

And there I was online checking out how to properly prune a crepe myrtle and buying a camera for my computer so I could better talk to my friends.

After a lovely couple of calls on messenger from friends I decided I wanted them to be able to see me too. It doesn’t mean I have to keep the camera plugged in all the time.

I did it. OMG. I did it.

I took a giant, huge, scary step today.

I put an offer in on a house.

I kept going back to it time after time when scrolling through houses for sale in GA that I thought I could afford.

This house is less than what I thought I’d spend and I swear it called to me.

It is in a small town–a thing I was looking for.

I am beyond tired of big city life, the noise, the crowds, and crazy city life in general.

I have watched Allentown grow for 50 years and I was never thrilled of the changed that brought.

Yes, I love all the good restaurants, the farmers market, the theater on occasion, but life with Jay made me mostly a homebody anyway. We didn’t go out much.

I will miss my best friend G terribly but she’s only a phone call away when I need to talk.

I did get a huge surprise when my realtor friend stopped by today to begin the selling process. She valued my home at almost 3 times what I expected to get.

If she’s right, and sells it for what she thinks she can get, I will have enough money left over, after buying the new place, to make my new house everything I want it to be.

Farmers market sort of day

I indulged myself today, dragging G off to the farmers market in the rain to find something I craved.

Didn’t know what I craved, but I figured if I was to find it anywhere, it would be there.

I found bananas on the $1.00 table of one stand that were just the way I like them–still green on the ends. There were 6 in the bag so G and I split the bag. Not bad, 3 bananas for 50 cents.

At the bottom of the ramp on the right, there’s a bakery stand where I found a beautiful white sage foccacia–it’s delicious.

At one of our favorite fruit and veggie stands I picked up a lb of grapes–three different seedless varieties.

Of course I stopped at Mr. Beelee’s sushi stand and picked up some squid salad for tomorrow’s lunch. His is fantastic.

We got back to the house and split up our goodies.

Lucy wanted me to play “throwitthrowitthrowit” again, as if she hadn’t already had me doing it for hours before we left.

A day of success and failure

G came over to help me put up the blinds and curtains in my bedroom.

I had a hell of a time getting the old blinds down and was very grateful to have her there to hold the ladder.

I go to put up the new blinds and they have a completely different type of hanger and I couldn’t find a 1/16th drill bit in this house to save my life. I know he has a shit ton of drill bits somewhere.

So, since we couldn’t get the new blinds up right away we just went ahead and put the clean curtains back up.

I am exhausted from all the climbing up and down the ladder, running up and down stairs looking for the damned drill bits and doing laundry.

All this after a few hours of “Mom, throw the toy, throw it, throwitthrowitthrowit!

I don’t know when I’ll get those blinds up…

Slow but sure progress…

A little here, a little there. The new blinds arrived for my bedroom, I’ll put them up tomorrow when G is here. No sense climbing a ladder when I’m alone and putting all my friends in a panic that I did it.

I did put up three pictures, 2 sea scenes and an old Bull Terrier cartoon. I am going blank on the artist at the moment.

Vacuumed the bedroom, hallway, and the living room.

Coaxed Lucy upstairs and introduced her to the joys of a bed to snuggle on. I hope I can get her up there tonight when she is sleepy.

As for now, she’s in the lounge chair.

Low and slow

Today was a fly low and slow day.

After hours of “Mom throw it, throw it, throw it!” Lucy wanted me to sit on the couch so she could curl up next to me and take a snooze.

I was perfectly willing to do so since it was a chilly, dreary, damp sort of day.

I got some reading in.

I’m going to wait to sleep upstairs until the new blinds get here and I can hang them and the curtains. That new street light is far too bright.

G stopped over and I asked her to join me for dinner since I was going to pull out my grill pan and make up a London broil I had marinated over night. She was happy to come over later, all she needed to do was supply her side since I only had one small sweet potato for me.

We had a great time and the steak was delicious.

I think we’ll do it more often.

Now, it is back to my book for me…it was getting to a good part.

Lucy had a vet appointment….(OUCH)

It got expensive. Even with her April fool disguise bunny ears.

Paid for yearly check up, fecal, blood test for heartworm, lyme, ehrl., allergy shot, vaccines that were due, anal glands done, yearly worming medicine, biohazard disposal fees….total cost for today? $422.11.

And I didn’t even get her break through allergy meds, her Proin for leaky bladder, or heartworm and flea and tick meds.

At least all I’ll need to do for traveling is call them for a health certificate print out.

I swear I am getting the run around from the life insurance company, and if bills like this keep stacking up, I am going to go off the deep end.

There aren’t enough guns to cover the bills. And, today I got the first medical bill from his hospital stay….

One way to get spring cleaning…

After Maggie left today, Lucy spent most of the day when I was downstairs bringing me one toy after another to throw. This went on until after her dinner at 5 where she crawled onto Jay’s chair and passed out.

I managed to get over half the bedroom floor vacuumed and scrubbed. I pulled the storage bins out from under the bed and put them under the desk.

All I have left to do is clean the bookcase and vacuum and scrub about 1/4 of the floor and rug.

I did 4 loads of wash too.

My house is in the beginning stages of neat and clean. It still has a way to go in two bedrooms, the living room and kitchen. We won’t even mention the basement, attic, and back porch yet.

It is still a bit overwhelming but a lot less now than it was thanks to Maggie’s help in getting one of the worse areas done.

At least I don’t want to cry when I walk into that room now.

I do believe tomorrow night Lucy and I will actually sleep in a real bed.

Long but fun day.

Maggie and I had just finished our coffee when Rick got here and off we went on a drive through several small PA towns to a little bitty gun shop where we met a friend of Rick’s for me to transfer the last pistol away.

When we got back to the house I called G and she came over to go with us to Wegman’s, Giant, and then the farmers market.

Wegman’s knocked Maggie’s socks off. I only went there to get a flight of cheese for us for later. I’d had their European on last week so I got us the Italian one.

When we pulled into the Giant parking lot, I decided we needed to get some lunch so we went to Sumo for lunch.

Then we went to pick up my few items at Giant.

Final stop was the farmers market. This market is rather large and I think surprised Maggie with the variety and number of stands to drool over.

Once home, Maggie and I set about to get my bedroom, I haven’t slept in for two years, cleaned and ready for Lucy and I to enjoy sleeping in a real bed. The room was beyond neglected in the cleaning the last two years barely getting a look much less a god solid cleaning.

I’ve been overwhelmed with just keeping up with the downstairs and him.

Maggie worked even when I had to stop and take a break for my back.

All I need to do now is vacuum and put a few things away and we will have a bedroom ready for sleeping by Monday night.

I made her a cheese steak for her dinner and later we had some wine and cheese, good conversation, and some spoiling of Lucy. Who has once again taken over Brodie’s crate for the night.

I likes cheez, nice lady with two dogs one of whomz I stealz his crate to sleep in at night even though I have my own crate, a chair, or the couch with Mom.

Company!

Maggie arrived this evening with Sadie and Brodie. Lucy was so overexcited we had to crate her and cover the crate. What a nutball.

Brody barely knows she’s here, he’s blind and completely unconcerned.

Sadie let her lick her nose but goodness that sent Lucy of into even more tail wags and wild digging at Sadie’s crate.

Yep, she needed some crate time to calm down. After all it was past her bed time.

Maggie and I had an enjoyable dinner, lots of conversation, and plans were.made for tomorrow.

After Maggie and pups went upstairs to bed, Lucy took over Brodie’s crate and thoroughly enjoyed his comforter. I guess maybe she needs one of those.

Lucy is exhausted….

We were invited over to Rick and Sue’s for dinner tonight. Lucy was the perfect house guest. She was so well behaved, I was happily surprised.

She got a real kick out of their house where she could run a full circle from kitchen, dining room, living room, entryway, hall, and kitchen again. Wheeeeeee!

Lucy was fun to watch for all three of us.

She really loved up on Sue, but then Sue was doing the cooking and (ahem) “accidentally” dropped some grated cheddar cheese for her after already giving her a SLICE of cheese.

She was so busy she completely forgot about her Mean Kitty that I’d packed to take along.  I’d also packed her dinner and she scarfed it down when it was served.

She kept asking Rick to take her out because he gave her a cookie upon return if she’d gone or not. I only give them when she goes. LOL  After dessert, she passed out on the floor near us for a little while.

I left while it was still light, I didn’t want to take a wrong turn and get lost in the dark. As it was I made it home no problem. This is the second time my google maps didn’t talk me through the drive over. Last time it was when I was trying to find the Attorney’s office.

Going to have to get that straightened out before I do any more traveling.

Lucy didn’t last long after we got home. A quick pee, a greeting of the neighbor, and she passed out on the ottoman. She’s snoring her head off.

Ashes to ashes?

After not hearing a word from the funeral home about Jay’s cremains, I finally gave them a call today.

I told the gal, “look, I know he didn’t have a compass or GPS, and even with them he had a tendency to get lost in the woods, but isn’t he back there yet?”

After she stopped laughing she went to find out what the hold up was.

“You mean no one called you?”

“No one.”

“Well, he’s here. He’s been hanging out here for days.”

Rick picks him up tomorrow and takes him to his rock ASAP.

Glad I called them.
