The year ahead

As I look forward to this new year of 2012 I wonder what’s in store for us.  I do hope we don’t have a repeat of 2011.  This year I haven’t made any resolutions.

Last year was filled with much sorrow for The Curmudgeon when he lost his Mom.  Then the overwhelming stress began for me in dealing with the hoarded mess that was her house.  I never would have been able to do as much as I did over there without G’s help and the help of Nancy and her family.  I’ll never be able to thank them all enough.

I don’t need to repeat ‘the heart attack’ that was way too scary!  I hope my health will continue to improve this year.

Please 2012 do bring us some nice weather so we can go outside more than we did last year.  We had so much rain and wind we barely got to enjoy the yard all summer.  Our lawn is mostly dirt now since the rain caused the grass to die off in large areas.

I hope this year brings much joy to all of you.  Many hugs!

When it rains it pours?

Last week during the rain, I had to go outside and retrieve our recycling cans from the street.  I unlocked the gate and, since I had Gavin on the leash, took him with me.  All was fine until on the way back in as I was walking down the wood ramp my feet went out from under me as if I was on ice.  I landed on my butt however, most of my weight went on my left wrist.

Hours later, after icing the wrist a couple of times, the pain was enough to prompt me to go to my doctor.  X-rays proved I didn’t break it but I did sprain it.  Thus, the brace on my wrist.

Then, later that night, as I went to post these pictures, my phone line broke.  I had no phone (other than the cell phones) or internet.

I finally have my phone line repaired and my wrist is healed now too.

Some days I need a cat fix

On those days, I go to G’s House.  She has three cats, two are antisocial but the third one is my buddy.  This is Smokey and he weighs 27 pounds.  He loves attention.  When I come over, he runs to greet me, and then leads me to the treat can…

Our day

Our day was peaceful, quiet, and companionly.  The Curmudgeon and I enjoyed each other’s company and the company of our dogs.

I cooked a simple meal of ham, baked sweet potatoes, and green beans.  I topped the meal off with some mince pie from the Amish bakery at the farmers market.

Nothing special, no pressures, and no gifts to unwrap it suited us fine.  We were content.

Have a good one!

I don’t care what you celebrate at this time of year.  I just hope you have a happy, safe, and good holiday.

Love and hugs to you all!!!

The rain passed us by

Bingle Jell diet ditty

Bingle jells, bingle jells!  Oh, how my diet has gone to hell.

Holiday treats delivered here have made my hips and boobs bigger dear.

Cookies here, candy there, someone help me to my chair.

My goose is cooked.  I don’t mean for food.  Heart healthy please I’m not kidding you.

One more kiffle, a cookie or two, oh dear, what harm can they do?…

Another ‘almost’ fail recipe

It’s a good thing that I’m good at doctoring recipes.  I tried one from the AHA Meals in Minutes Cookbook last night that could have been a total fail.

The recipe is called No-Chop Stew and the flavor was not there at all.  I added garlic,  basil, and oregano to boost the flavor.  After the additions the taste was acceptable.  I made notes in the cookbook.

Anyone getting my old cookbooks after I’m gone will find notes on most of the recipes.  The notes range from, “This is a good one.” to added ingredients to make the recipe a good one.

Sherlock Holmes; a game of shadows

Sherlock Holmes

G and I went to see it yesterday.  We both loved, loved, loved it!  We are looking forward to more.  I may have bruised G’s arm poking her with my elbow when the bull terrier appeared on-screen.  Yay, for bullies!

We are also looking forward to Men In Black 3 the trailers looked like great fun!

For my birthday in March we are going to make sure we go to see John Carter.

Honey Chipotle Pecans

Honey Chipotle Pecans

This recipe doubles easily.

2 tbsp honey

1 1/2 tsp chipotle powder

3/4 tsp cinnamon

2 cups pecans

2 tbsp sugar

3/4 tsp salt

Preheat oven to 350.

In a medium skillet, combine honey, chipotle powder and cinnamon over medium heat until melted and combined. Stir in nuts. Transfer to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 10-15 minutes, or until fragrant. Cool slightly (1-2 minutes). Combine sugar and salt in a bowl, add pecans and toss until coated. Spread out on a piece of parchment paper and cool completely. Be warned that if you have one…you will have another. Store in an airtight container.

Dogpile on Daddy!

Patty was snuggling with The Curmudgeon when Gavin decided to join them.  I had to grab the camera!  LOL!

Two steps forward three steps back

It’s amazing how far behind one can get when one isn’t paying attention.   I’ve left a few things go and now they are no longer small chores they are huge jobs to do.

I keep telling myself that one of these days I’ll get caught up.  Now I truly wonder if that will happen.

I still need a couple of people capable of carrying furniture and the use of a truck to move the armoire and dresser to my house.  I also need the roofer to finish fixing the danged garage roof at the MIL’s house so I can call the realtor.

Why does the laundry seem to pile up faster each week?    Why can’t dinners cook themselves?  Why is it that as soon as I clean the kitchen floor it rains again?

Maybe I should go crawl into a couple of good books until spring….
