Warm December again.

Indian summer in December?  I can live with it.  It hit 64 here yesterday and I was out in a t-shirt with no jacket.  Our back porch was colder than the outdoors.  LOL!

Today the forecast is for similar temperatures.  How lovely!  Especially since the long-range forecast is calling for snow at by the twenty-fifth.

If I remember correctly, we were fairly warm here last December too.  Some people have the audacity to say there’s no global warming.  Yea, right.

You all have a good one!  I intend to.

I know it’s a bad time to diet, but I need to do this.

I used to bake dozens of cookies, many loaves of breads like cranberry nut, orange, and banana nut at this time of year.  I don’t do it any more.  I stopped about ten years ago.

It’s a good thing too because I sure don’t need them around me this year.  I am doing the very difficult cut back on everything diet for the holidays.  This is going to suck big time, but I need to do it for my heart health.

Since my heart attack over a year ago I gained far too much weight.  Most of it is from overeating and not getting enough exercise.  Quitting smoking was also a huge factor.

Wish me luck, and I am open to any suggestions on how to stop these danged hunger pangs.

You all have a good one!

Here’s another Bully looking for a home.

I don’t normally post these, but I know the woman who has Missy on the previous post, and this one happens to be at one of my favorite rescues.
This little tripod girl is such a sweetie!!!  Look at that happy face.
This happy girl has gotten no interest in the 7 months she has been available 😦  She’s at http://www.rockyridgerefuge.com

Good food makes for a happy Curmudgeon

It’s always a treat when my neighbor and best friend G does some baking because we get samples.  We enjoyed some apple crisp for our dessert last night.  Yum!  It’s been a  long time since I’ve made it.  Therefore, this was an especially lovely treat since I didn’t have to work at it.  😉

Dinner was easy and quick too.  We had open-faced hot roast beef sandwiches made with the leftover roast beef and gravy from Sunday.

There’s nothing like an all comfort food dinner.  The Curmudgeon sure did enjoy it.

You all have a good one!

Another day another loopy tangent

I had one of those days.  A day where nothing went right.  I got side-tracked at every turn of the path and all plans were immediately shot to hell upon waking.

Did I manage to call the vet to make an appointment for Gavin, no.  Why was this?

The Curmudgeon was having a bad day.  This means that as soon as I got downstairs, even before my coffee, I was listening to a litany of complaints.  Uppermost in my mind, next to having a cup of coffee, was were the dogs taken care of?

Turns out they were ‘mostly’ taken care of and I only needed to take them out immediately.  That done, I headed for my coffee.  I actually had a cup poured when another hoop landed in front of me.   Oh!  Need to follow that tangent.

Ten minutes later, I sipped my coffee  ick, icy cold,  I had to reheat it.  Seems I reheated that cup of coffee about ten times before I finally got to drink it.

You all have a good one.

Sad day, the first of many from now until February

He left us back in 1995 on this day.  It still feels as if it was only yesterday.  I love you, Pop.

Yeah, I’m a Bah Humbug…so what?

I’m already sick of the Christmas commercials and programs and it’s not even December yet!  Jeez!  It seems to me that they run more and more of both every year and begin running them earlier.

Christmas carols began playing in stores and on the radio in October right along with the jarring appearance of Christmas decorations.

Most of my family is gone now and many of them left us at this time of year.  I find no joy in this season.  I wish those of you who celebrate it would leave me out of it.

You all have a good one anyway.

He says he’ll program all the numbers in…

Just when you think your bank account can have a bit of break, things start to fall apart.  I knew we needed to replace our house phones, but yesterday was the kicker when the downstairs one died during a five-minute conversation.

I ordered a new phone.  A cordless with three handsets, two charging units, and one base unit.  This time, with the third handset, The Curmudgeon will have one in his man cave.

You all have a good one!

Our non traditional traditional dinner

Our Thanksgiving dinner is a simple fare with only the two of us here.  I’ll take turkey breast cutlets, pound them flat, lightly bread  and quickly sear them.  I have some frozen chicken gravy that I’ll heat to serve over the cranberry Stove Top Stuffing.  We’ll have sautéed kale and whole berry cranberry sauce will top things off.  Then I’ll thaw some slices of cheesecake for dessert.

I’m not sure if I’ll post on Thursday or not.  We’ll see what happens.

You all have a good one!

My dentist is a pain. (Not really)

“Just a couple of stings.”  He said as he injected the Novocaine into my mouth.

“Ow ow ow ow ow.”  I said without much enthusiasm.  I know that good dental hygiene is important for heart health.

An hour and half later, my roots were planed and teeth were scaled on one side.  I felt nothing.  I have to go back next week to be tortured again and get the other side done.

I hate when the Novocaine reaches the ‘I’m going to make you itch but you can’t feel anything to make it stop’ cycle begins.  That happened around six last night.  Thankfully, it is soon followed by no itch and normal feeling again.

However, there is that pain in the injection sites that is always a drag.  Thank goodness this is only the second time in 7 years I’ve had this done.

You all have a good one.

New shower.

Our new shower head.  The Curmudgeon actually was able to install the contraption the other day.  I did buy a longer hose for his ease of use.
It is a nice product made by Moen, but I do have one complaint.

The darned thing is not made for someone who has limited eyesight.  Without my glasses I am as blind as a bat.  I don’t shower with my glasses on so I have trouble seeing the controls, and, of course, The Curmudgeon has them set weird so I have to change them for my shower.
You all have a good one.

Those MS organizations? No, they don’t help him.

In all the years since The Curmudgeon was first diagnosed with MS to now,   I don’t think there’s been but one time the MS society was ever any help at all.  I’m not real sure how much or if they had something to do with the single time we got a useful item for free that actually aided The Curmudgeon.  His ice vest was/is a wonderful thing for him.

I do wish the MS society was of help.  They aren’t.  All they do is send us magazines with articles about relapsing remitting MS and nothing about his secondary progressive MS.  The other thing they do, is ask for money that we don’t have.

He has a mobility scooter that is out of commission and no one will even look at it or attempt to fix it for him.  Therefore, taking the dogs out more than twice in the morning is impossible for him since he no longer has a scooter to use.  He misses being able to go beyond the confines of the house.

Getting him over to a place in another city  to pick up a much-needed walker is turning into a logistical nightmare.  There are days where disappearing somewhere to have a good cry is a necessity.

You all have a good one.
