Winter weather again

We actually got a little winter weather last night.  Sometime around 8 p.m. it began to sleet.  Now my yard has an icy coating that the dogs aren’t too fond of walking in.  Truth be told neither am I.

At least it wasn’t snow and I have no plans to go anywhere today.  I went shopping yesterday which made the dogs happy since they were almost out of food.

Fortunately, the temperature is supposed to hit around 42 degrees today so that icy coating should disappear.

Hope you all have a very nice day.

Day 5 Gavin’s recovery

Not a great day today.  I wish we could knock him out until the ear heals since he spent today being a royal pain in the tuckus.  I finally cut the arms off an old long underwear shirt and taped it over his ear to keep him from shaking his ears and trying to dig at it.

The collar of shame is useless this time since he figured out how to get out of it.  Yes, even with it attached to his collar he managed to get it off.

Oh, what I’d give for enough tranquilizers to knock an elephant on its ass.  I spent most of the day yesterday holding Gavin to keep him from messing with his ear.

Maybe Gavin will give his Daddy a nice birthday present today and leave his ear alone so it can heal.  I don’t see this being a great birthday for The Curmudgeon today.

Coming up…

Next week it’s The Curmudgeon’s birthday.  I’m not sure what we’re going to do for it.  Perhaps I’ll drag him out for dinner.

Next week I also have a cardiologist appointment, I hope he tells me I can stop the one medication that has given me such a dry cough.  Without it I’ll sleep better since it is the cough that now wakens me at all hours.

Gavin has an appointment on the 23rd to have his stitches removed.  It’s also G’s birthday, I need to do something real nice for her after all the help she gave me over at the MIL’s house.

No food after 7… Oh, he’s going to scream!

You try sleeping in this thing!

At eight this morning, Gavin goes to the vet to get the hematoma on his ear repaired.  Instructions are no food after seven P.M. Monday night, no water after ten.

Gavin won’t be a happy camper when his breakfast doesn’t hit his dish.  (Digging out my ear plugs.)  He’s a screamer when he misses a meal.

The vet’s office always tells us no food until the next day but they don’t have to live with him.  He’ll eat because we won’t be able to stand the screaming  high pitched scoldy barking.

If I remember right, he’ll also be wearing the collar of shame (see picture above) for however long it stays in one piece.  Last time it was a whole day.  Wish us luck!

I knew it was coming but…

Price Pfister F0364DSS Treviso Double Handle Kitchen Faucet, Stainless Steel

I’ve had a kitchen faucet and sprayer on my Amazon wish list for quite a while.  I finally had to order it last night.  Our present one had a minor leakage problem that suddenly got worse.

I wasn’t ready to buy the faucet.  We had a few other things we planned to buy first.  However, this constant switching of priority repairs seems  normal for around here.  I’m just glad I had one all picked out and I don’t have to scramble to find exactly what I want.

Once you buy a house, there’s never an end to spending money to keep it in good repair.

Now the top priority, which was porch repairs, is second on the list.  It will have to wait a while longer.

Squee!

It’s funny how help often appears out of the blue

I took Gavin outside for his last pee last night and ran into an old friend I hadn’t seen in many months.  She and her husband were walking their GSDs past the house.  I’d forgotten she was a real estate agent and that her husband is an estate lawyer.

We got to talking and things came around to my heart attack, stress, the MIL’s house, and all the confusion we had over estate law.   Suddenly, I had a great offer of much-needed help!

Her husband is going to hand hold The Curmudgeon through all the ins and outs and get everything done that needs doing with the estate and she is going to sell the house for us!

It feels as though a mountain of crap lifted from my shoulders.  The Curmudgeon is happy to deal with people we’ve known for over twenty years and I now feel better than I have for quite a while.

Today I was a tourguide

I tend to forget how large our local farmers market is until I take a visitor there as I did today.  I rather enjoyed watching my ‘adopted son’s’ jaw drop when we walked in the door and heavenly aromas hit him.

We walked down one side and back up the other.  He snapped pictures and tasted a few samples as we walked along.  We stopped at a local winery stand and tasted some wines.  We both bought some.

He kept wishing for more time because our time was limited.  To do the place justice you really need to have enough time to do one walk-through and then another one or two to stop at different stands to buy items.

I love going there.  Although, some days, I do tend to spend a bit more than I should.   How can you not when there’s so much good food all around you?

The year ahead

As I look forward to this new year of 2012 I wonder what’s in store for us.  I do hope we don’t have a repeat of 2011.  This year I haven’t made any resolutions.

Last year was filled with much sorrow for The Curmudgeon when he lost his Mom.  Then the overwhelming stress began for me in dealing with the hoarded mess that was her house.  I never would have been able to do as much as I did over there without G’s help and the help of Nancy and her family.  I’ll never be able to thank them all enough.

I don’t need to repeat ‘the heart attack’ that was way too scary!  I hope my health will continue to improve this year.

Please 2012 do bring us some nice weather so we can go outside more than we did last year.  We had so much rain and wind we barely got to enjoy the yard all summer.  Our lawn is mostly dirt now since the rain caused the grass to die off in large areas.

I hope this year brings much joy to all of you.  Many hugs!

Some days I need a cat fix

On those days, I go to G’s House.  She has three cats, two are antisocial but the third one is my buddy.  This is Smokey and he weighs 27 pounds.  He loves attention.  When I come over, he runs to greet me, and then leads me to the treat can…

Our day

Our day was peaceful, quiet, and companionly.  The Curmudgeon and I enjoyed each other’s company and the company of our dogs.

I cooked a simple meal of ham, baked sweet potatoes, and green beans.  I topped the meal off with some mince pie from the Amish bakery at the farmers market.

Nothing special, no pressures, and no gifts to unwrap it suited us fine.  We were content.

Have a good one!

I don’t care what you celebrate at this time of year.  I just hope you have a happy, safe, and good holiday.

Love and hugs to you all!!!
