Yes, yes they are good guard dogs
Posted by doggonedmysteries
When these two pups decide to bark at a stranger, they sound like ten dogs vying to tear the person apart. Someone working on the upcoming election had the misfortune to find this out today.
When he knocked on the door Gavin and Patty went from snoozing in chairs waiting for Mom to wake up to ‘look at us we are vicious guard dogs’ mode in one second flat.
He made a remark about what good guard dogs they were to The Curmudgeon. To which he replied, “Yes, yes they are.”
Invited guests equal overly friendly, love you, love you smoochy dogs. Whereas uninvited guests equal “Mommy, can we snack on them?”

38 years lost and now found.
Posted by doggonedmysteries
For the 38 years since our wedding we had none of our wedding pictures. They’d disappeared, were lost, they were gone forever only a few weeks after the wedding. For years we searched and my relatives searched to no avail. What few wedding pictures we’ve had all these years were gathered from snap shots taken by friends and relatives.
By serendipity some wedding slides surfaced yesterday. Not all of them, but some great ones from the wedding and reception that we thought we’d never see again. I have pictures of my Father, Mother, Gramma (Mom’s mom), and Grandpa (Dad’s dad)!!!
We intend to have the slides put on a disk. I told The Curmudgeon they go over to the photo place no later than Wednesday of next week!
We are now only missing a few pictures that my brother-in-law took of us at the Rose Gardens.
A walk in the park
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Yesterday, I woke early to the pain in my back. I hate beating my alarm clock up in the ‘morning’…okay, my morning. In my opinion, to beat my alarm by an hour sucks big time.
This called for coffee, anti-inflammatory drugs, and some slow moving. About an hour later, I was still sore but not horribly so. I was also up for a walk because I figured if I stopped moving I’d get stiff and it would take longer to recover from whatever I did to my back.
G never goes walking on Wednesday that’s her grocery day. Therefore it was Annie and I who were going. I asked Annie if she minded me bringing Miss Patty along. She didn’t mind a bit.
Crated Gavin and asked Patty if she wanted to go for a walk. LOL, She started bouncing off the walls she was so excited to go somewhere with Mommy.
She was surprised to be getting in the car. “I thought we was going for walkies, Mom?” She’s never gone walking at the park before.
Patty has a complex about other dogs since a pittie attacked her quite a few years ago. She does NOT like other dogs (except for her brother Gavin) and I do fear she’d attack another dog if given the slightest chance to do so.
However, she is the easier of these two dogs to handle. Gavin’s low center of gravity and heavy-duty power makes him a bit too much for me to walk when I’m injured.
This all explained to Annie had us a wise ally during the walk in the park. We only saw three dogs two of whom we did have to manage a form of warning about Patty and her attitude.
With her favorite cookies to distract her and plenty of praise for “leaving it” when she did see the other dog and go into extreme alert mode I call her first walk in the park a success.
The best part is the very tired dog who, after dinner, all she wanted was to go to bed.

Mom has an ouchie
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Hi,
Patty here. Mom hurt her back today so she’s going to bed early. I promised her that I would let everyone know. She’ll be back tomorrow night.
She told me to tell you….You all have a good one!

Morning sound effects
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Car horn, noisy children, quiet returns and sleep deepens. Hours later, click, click, click, click, click, sniff, sniff, sniff, thump, rattle of door, and loud sigh. Click, click, click, click, click, thump, thump, thump, thump.
An hour passes then click, click, click, click, click, thump, rattle of door, soft whine.
“Okay, okay.” I open the door to a white dog wagging his tail.
The bed bouncing commences. On the bed, off the bed, on the bed, off the bed, on the bed. He stops to cuddle a few minutes, then bounces off the bed to put his paws on my dresser and stare at the dog in the mirror. A couple more bed bounces and he’s ready to go downstairs.
Morning Mom.
You all have a good one!

Lovely day
Posted by doggonedmysteries
What a great day for walking! Annie and I made two circuits of the park. We can’t do that on days when G walks with us. G has had a knee replaced and once around the park is all she can handle before her other knee starts to kill her. She dreads it but knows that one of these days that one too needs replacing.
We saw a wonderful sight by the second foot bridge. An elderly Lab was tootling around (doing mini laps) in a small patch of deep water. His mom was standing by keeping watch while he was thoroughly enjoying himself. Two ducks nearby were unconcerned about his company.

It never gets easy
Posted by doggonedmysteries
On Friday the thirteenth in April of 2001 my baby sister breathed her last breath. A hole opened in my heart and has never healed. To have her joy, laughter, sense of humor, and smile leave this world forever was the cruelest thing of all.
I mourned her then. I mourn her now. Mary, it still feels like it was only yesterday that we spoke on the phone. I miss you. I love you.

A crow’s picnic?
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Sunday I looked out the window and there was a large crow in the bird bath acting rather peculiar. Curiosity finally overcame me and I went outside to see what he was doing. I got to the bird bath and in it I found a fried chicken leg that looked as though it had come from the pan only minutes before. This was not something grabbed from a trash bag. I do believe he was rolling it around in the water to cool it enough to eat it.
Yesterday I looked out the window and saw the crow in our Tulip poplar, eating something. Oh, dear if it was something the dogs might find and choke on I thought I’d better go see. He took off when I opened the back door. I walked to the bird bath first because of the last incident. Good thing I did. For there in the bird bath were the remains of a small bird. ICK! I don’t do dead critters.
I called The Curmudgeon outside and let him clean out the bird bath. He started making jokes about a Crow’s hobo stew. “Hey, he’s a green crow, he was using solar power to make his stew.”
GAG! “Just clean that ick out of there.” I went inside to get away from the sick jokes.
You all have a good one!

Blustery day!
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Winnie the Pooh: Happy “Winds-day”, Piglet.
Piglet: [being blown away] Well… it isn’t… very happy… f-for me.
Winnie the Pooh: Where are you going, Piglet?
Piglet: That’s what I’m asking myself, where?
[he is lifted into the air by a gust of wind] Piglet: W-Whoops! P-P-P-Pooh!
Winnie the Pooh: [grabbing Piglet’s scarf] And what do you think you will answer yourself?
It seemed like that sort of day here yesterday although it was Monday and not Windsday.
Even though the wind blew like crazy the broken branch in the Tulip Poplar is still stuck way up in the tree. I don’t do tall ladders so it may stay there until it rots away.
You all have a good one!
