We should have asked for permission

We got rid of our sofa bed yesterday. Patty is not happy. That’s her on it above. She thought it was hers. She has been pouting ever since it left.

I love this weather
Posted by doggonedmysteries
It was hot outside yesterday and the dogs are quite spoiled by their Daddy’s need for air conditioning. Patty spent the day sprawled out on the couch and Gavin alternated between his chair and the floor in front of the air conditioner.
I spent most of the day outside planting some of my flowers and veggie plants and working on the pond. I only came in to rehydrate and take the dogs out to pee. Well, it was more like dragging the dogs out. They didn’t want to leave the air conditioning. DH and the dogs think I’ve lost my mind. I hate to tell them that it took a walk a long time ago.
I’ll be out working on the garden again today. I need to weed along the back fence and get the rest of the tomatoes planted there. Then on Tuesday, I need to buy more potting soil so I can put flowers in the pots out front and in the wrought iron stand that I brought home from the MIL’s house.

It is colder than a brass brassiere in the arctic
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Dang, it’s 2 a.m. and the dogs want out. It is COLD out there! The pups don’t care they want out when they want out. I need a cup of coffee to take the chill off. This isn’t spring it feels like freaking winter. I’m glad I didn’t put the winter jacket, gloves, and hat away.
I’m also glad we haven’t removed the pond heater yet because I think if had, there’d be ice on it. It wouldn’t be so bad if there were no wind. It felt like below zero out there.
I really, really, really want the warm weather to get here. Now. Not later. (Shut up, Dave. You had your winter now I want WARM weather.)
Time for that coffee.

Patty wanted Gavin’s bed tonight
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Poor Patty, since the towel-eating incident she isn’t allowed to have any bedding in her crate. That was a scare and a vet bill I’d rather not have again. Since it was only a year or two ago we still don’t trust her to leave bedding alone.
I put a fresh towel in Gavin’s crate tonight and then I was busy doing something in the kitchen. DH went into the living room to give Patty a cookie but she wasn’t in her crate as he thought. She was in Gavin’s crate checking out the new bedding. She was having quite a good time in there too. We half expected her to steal the towel and take it into her crate. We are betting she had thought about it.

We were in the doghouse last night
Posted by doggonedmysteries
A clear sky and a fabulous view of the full moon brought rise to high spirits last night. I’m afraid I wasn’t the only one who had a bit of fun. The pups were in on it too and we were in trouble with DH.
I went out for two quick walks, one for Gavin and the other for Patty. DH had gone to bed. We can’t help it if we enjoyed a little exercise and still wanted to romp upon coming indoors.
It began with a tail tweak and a teensy bit of encouragement on my part. Gavin decided that Patty needed a chase. Patty thought it great fun and then she went a tad overboard with a bully run on the couch.
The next thing we knew a voice from above us asked, “What the hell are you guys up to?” Two dogs sprinted for their crates.
“Oops, my bad, we were having a little fun. Sorry we woke you.” I couldn’t help giggling at the pups that were hiding in the back of their crates.
DH went back to bed. A little while later two bull terriers stuck their heads out of their crate doors as if to say, “Is the coast clear?”

At first it was a quiet afternoon
Posted by doggonedmysteries
DH and I spent yesterday recharging our batteries. We were both tired. He had a good nap in the afternoon while I curled up in my chair with my Kindle and read a couple Wizard of Oz books. I have 15 of them on the Kindle.
Patty snoozed on the couch and Gavin snored in his chair. All was quiet and blissful until around four when Gavin’s belly alarm began to go off. He got up, wanted out, and then Patty did the same thing. I wasn’t allowed to settle back into the chair. Gavin stood in the kitchen, stared at the counter, and barked.
“It’s not time yet!” I picked up my Kindle.
Gavin barked again.
I put my Kindle down. “Quiet or you’ll wake your Daddy.” I chased him out of the kitchen and put the gate across the doorway.
Patty decided it was time to bug Gavin. She grabbed his collar and began to drag him across the room. He freed himself and jumped on her. She escaped his clutches and leaped to the couch where she proceeded to do a bully run from one end to the other. The house rattled.
I heard movement upstairs. “Alright you two now you’ve done it. Daddy’s up.”

Scottish Deerhound takes Westminster
Posted by doggonedmysteries
As soon as we saw Hickory walk into the best in show ring DH and I both said, “There’s the winner.” We were right. She was the perfect example of the Scottish deerhound standard. Her movement was breath taking.
Our hearts will always belong to the terrier group, especially Bull Terriers, but we know a good dog when we see one. Hickory stood out a little above the rest of the competition.
Congratulations to Hickory, her breeders, owners, and especially her brilliant handler. Three cheers for the first time ever Westminster best in show win for a Scottish deerhound.

I will be happy for mud
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Do they make doggie ice skates? Gavin and Patty certainly could’ve used them yesterday. The yard has turned into a rather large ice rink. There has to be at least a two-inch layer of ice on the snow now.
I will be so glad to see all that snow and ice melt away that I won’t complain about having a muddy yard. Well, I promise not to complain too much. Hmm, maybe I should I hang a note up to remind of that when the dogs and DH track a ton of mud across the kitchen floor.
AJ has made out like a bandit with all the shoveling she’s been doing this winter. It has taken its toll on her though. I do adore this hard working woman who has kept the MIL’s and our walks clear for two winters now. I don’t know what we’d do without her.

You know it’s COLD outside when…
Posted by doggonedmysteries
The dogs run out do their business and dash back in, in record time.
Long icicles hang from everything.
The cars are grumpy when you try to start them.
The pond heater is working overtime and the Koi are hanging out directly beneath it.
You step outside and your breath freezes in mid-air and drops to the ground with a thud.
You have no desire to go out even when wearing long underwear, layers of clothing, a very warm coat, gloves, and boots.
Yep, it is that COLD outside. When the hell is spring going to get here?

Name my Roomba
Posted by doggonedmysteries
We found a brand new Roomba in the MIL’s house. The box was unopened and everything was still in plastic bags and bubble wrap. The batteries that came with it sat for too long without being charged and wouldn’t accept a charge so I ordered a new battery for it.
The battery arrived today. After charging it, it was fun to watch the little sage green guy run about the downstairs chasing down and sweeping up all those wild killer dust bunnies. He’s so darned cute that I think he deserves a name.
Of course, I did this while the pups were secure in their crates because Gavin has a thing for noisy moving objects. See the picture above. That’s Gavin chasing his RC car. He wore out three of those before we decided it was too expensive a toy for him.
