The leaves are getting deep around here.

HPIM4185I am so glad I snapped this picture the other day before the tree lost any more leaves. This is our sweet gum tree.

The magnolia and tulip tree are dropping their leaves like crazy. Yep, it is fall for sure.

Then out front we have a street full of maple trees and they are all rapidly dropping their colorful clothes. Every time I open the front door I have to sweep the porch clear of leaves or they track in.

You all have a good one!

It’s chilly outside

With the temperatures dipping down into the high to mid forties at night, I dragged out my only zippered hoodie to wear to take the dogs out.  Oh my goodness, it is all stretched out, thin, and very dingy looking.  Definitely past time for a new one.

Therefore, I went to my favorite t-shirt, sweat-shirt, fun place   http://www.cafepress.com   and found one I liked.  Of course five minutes after I ordered mine The Curmudgeon wakes up, comes downstairs, sees mine, and asks me to order him one.  Can you tell which shirt is mine and which one is his?

Thinking Of You Voodoo Doll Zip Hoodie

It’s time to accentuate the positive

For many people this time of the year is the most depressing.  I know it has been so for me for a long time.  However, I am determined that THIS year I will work towards a more positive and happy attitude.

I will remember to make myself feel happier.  Smile and the world smiles with you, it is true.  When you wear a smile, people tend to smile back.  Once they’ve smiled at you they will smile at the next person they meet and so on.  Pass along a smile today.  It’s uplifting and such a small thing to do.

I will listen to others.  Everyone needs to talk but finding a willing ear to bend is often a problem.  How was your day?  I’m listening.

I will take time to play.  Yes, I said play.  Everyone should play.  Bring out that inner child and let him/her have some fun.

Hmm, there’s still one big, fluffy pile of leaves in the yard I think it’s time I joined the dogs in a good dive in the leaves.

What foods do you crave when the seasons change?

I find my cravings change with the seasons.  Right now, in the fall, I begin to crave vegetable laden soups and stews, crisp tart apples and apple cider, herb teas, pecan and pumpkin pies, and acorn squash.  Dear Hubby wants slow cooked beef and pork roasts with mashed potatoes and carrots or corn.  He wants apple crisp, bread pudding, and rice pudding with raisins all still warm from the oven.

My father would make a wonderful turkey soup after Thanksgiving.  He’d boil down the turkey carcass, put in everything but the kitchen sink, and never wrote the darned thing down, he died in 1995.  I’d almost perfected his recipe after years of trial and error when DH decided he no longer liked turkey.  That was the end of that.  Now I make chicken soup with a PA Dutch flair.

DH’s mother used to make one thing very well.  She made an applesauce cake to die for however, she no longer bakes.  No matter how often DH asks for it I won’t make her cake.  Why?  Because no matter how good it is, it can never compare to the memory of his mother’s.

It is fall, and I still crave Dad’s soup.  DH still craves his mother’s applesauce cake.  What foods do you crave when the seasons change?
