Oh, for heaven’s sake, shave already.
Posted by doggonedmysteries
I don’t know about you, but I have grown very tired of the five o’clock or later shadow look on men. Gentlemen, either shave or don’t, but if you don’t at least trim that dirty looking mess on your face into some form of neatness. I prefer a clean-shaved look.
Truth be told, I’ve never been overly fond of The Curmudgeon’s hairy pet that crouches on his upper lip. It tickles when we kiss. It stores food at times–not a pleasant sight, and as it has grayed it really lost its looks.
Who told actors that the grungy faced look was attractive? Maybe once in a while but it isn’t a look that wins the ladies. I don’t know too many women who love men who wear brambles on their faces. Sigh, I sure do miss seeing handsome, cleanly shaved men. Will Hollywood ever bring them back? One can hope.
Blustery day!

Winnie the Pooh: Happy “Winds-day”, Piglet.
Piglet: [being blown away] Well… it isn’t… very happy… f-for me.
Winnie the Pooh: Where are you going, Piglet?
Piglet: That’s what I’m asking myself, where?
[he is lifted into the air by a gust of wind] Piglet: W-Whoops! P-P-P-Pooh!
Winnie the Pooh: [grabbing Piglet’s scarf] And what do you think you will answer yourself?
It seemed like that sort of day here yesterday although it was Monday and not Windsday.
Even though the wind blew like crazy the broken branch in the Tulip Poplar is still stuck way up in the tree. I don’t do tall ladders so it may stay there until it rots away.
You all have a good one!

Keep your eyes on your goals
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Even though I hadn’t done much writing since August, it didn’t mean that I wasn’t champing at the bit to do so. The words just weren’t coming. I do believe the dam has developed a crack.
I finished a chapter the other day and I am at present working on another. I won’t jinx it by saying that I’m writing again. Let’s just say, I am working on writing again. My goal is to get back into a groove where I am writing at least several hundred words a day.
The goal after that is to get back up to a thousand or more words a day and then the next goal is to finish the friggin’ books that have been staring at me for months at a time!!!
Wow, I have goals again!
You all have a good one and keep your eyes on your goals. It’s all one step at a time.

Stranger than fiction?
Posted by doggonedmysteries
The difference between fiction and reality is that fiction has to make sense. ~Tom Clancy~
Reality is often a strange place to live. I’ve heard true stories and seen things that I wouldn’t dare put in my fiction writing because no one would believe it.
The way my mind works, I have to bounce things off The Curmudgeon to see if he thinks it is believable. He makes for a great technical adviser but sometimes his imagination is a tad lacking and I have to ask others their opinions.
Having a wild imagination isn’t always good for a writer. Fiction that doesn’t sound real enough will put off a reader faster than a skunk’s butt backing up to him/her. It has to be believable enough to suspend disbelief.
Thus, even real situations that sound too fantastic to believe will lose readers. They must always make sense if only in terms of making sense for the story.
My brain scares me at times
Posted by doggonedmysteries
We had a very gray and rainy day yesterday so I really didn’t go anywhere or do anything. That is until I stood at my kitchen window and watched a man walk past our yard.
He wasn’t dressed for the weather. He dragged one of those folding two-wheeled grocery carts behind him. When he reached the end of our fence, he stopped, pulled a bag out of the cart, and put it in the dumpster for the apartment building behind us.
It’s my brain that had him as a serial killer putting a bag with a body part in the dumpster. It’s a good thing that I don’t live alone because sometimes I scare myself.
You all have a good one.

Save us from reality shows
Posted by doggonedmysteries
I watch TV for entertainment purposes. Therefore I do not watch reality shows that make me ill just from watching the danged trailers for them. No I don’t want to see how bad that poor sick person’s house looks. Nor do I want to know about someone’s horrible and weirdly sick addiction.
What people do in the privacy of their homes belongs there and not jumping off my TV screen.
I had enough dealing with a hoarders home when in my reality I had to clear out my MIL’s house. No, I don’t want to compare notes with the TV on whose house was worse. Entertainment? Oh, hell no.
I’m so glad I read and oh, yeah I write too….
You all have a good one. Me, I’m going to turn off the TV and go for a walk.

John Carter Movie YAY!!
Posted by doggonedmysteries
One of my favorite book series has always been Edgar Rice Burroughs’ John Carter series. So you can imagine my excitement to hear that FINALLY someone is making a John Carter movie.
Yay! I will be in line for tickets the day it opens here. And, if it is true enough to the books, I will buy the DVD when it comes out too.
Read the books if you haven’t, they are great. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve reread them over the years.
Conversation with the monster under my bed…
Posted by doggonedmysteries
“You’re smaller than I remember.” I rolled over and leaned down to peer under my bed.
“You’re much bigger now,” he said.
“We’re you always that color?”
“Nope. It’s dustier down here.” He smiled a toothy grin. “You’re mother and grandmother kept their house cleaner.
“Yeah, well I never did claim a prize in Better House Keeping. However, I’m not the worst one around either.”
“True. So, what was it you wanted to ask? I don’t often make an appearance for adults.” He blinked his big red eyes.
“I don’t know. You came to mind tonight for some reason.”
“I’ve got kids beds to be under. If you you have nothing important to ask me, I have to go.”
“Okay, with us moving so much, how did you manage to find us?”
“That’s easy. We each have certain bed bottoms as part of our home. They’re like doors. You bed bottom was always the same door no matter where you moved.”
“Wow, how many doors do you have?”
“I’m not allowed to tell. Now I have to go.”

It’s only 88 days from now

A peek at an idea for you…
Brad surveyed the ancient Victorian home with a jaundiced eye. “If I hear one moan, one groan, or one chain rattle, I’m out of here.”
“Aw, come on. It’ll be fun.” I tugged on his sleeve leading him up the steps.
“Fun for you, maybe.”
“Yeah, I always enjoy hearing a big strong man scream like a little girl.”
“Keep it up and I won’t go in there.” He gave me a look that would curdle milk.
“We’re getting paid. Other people have to PAY to go to this house.”
“Remind me, why are they paying us?”
“The say their ghosts are angry about something and they want us to find out what it is before they open the house to the public for Halloween.”
“Yeah, that’s the part I don’t get. We’re private detectives not freaking ghost busters.”

I have hit a milestone
Posted by doggonedmysteries
This is my 1000th post! When I began this blog, I never thought I’d keep posting daily for a long as I have. I’ve only missed posting on days I was too sick to get out of bed or when I was away at my writer’s conference.
I never thought I’d have return readers or, much less, a small following, but I do. To you my dear readers I say thank you for without you I wouldn’t have made it to this milestone.
You encourage me to keep writing even when I feel crappy. Writing on this blog has become a way to keep my hand in while my brain is out of gear on my mysteries.
I hope when we sell the house and things are back to a semblance of normal around here I will have no more problems with my books and can finish them in short order.
I promise you, if you hang in here with me during this rocky time, I will get them done.

OMG, I can’t believe we’re doing another one!
Posted by doggonedmysteries
After last weekend I knew we needed to do another sale. Up at six really doesn’t sit well with me but I am doing it none-the-less.
Do me a favor and keep all appendages crossed that we clean out the house today.
(Groan) I hate mornings.

Gremlins in the house
Posted by doggonedmysteries
We have a problem with gremlins in this house. Things disappear, reappear, and disappear again. Now I am missing a large tablet, several favorite pens, and a big package of double ‘A’ batteries. Therefore, I’m guessing our gremlins needed paper, pens and batteries.
Are our gremlins writers? Did they need batteries for their remote controls?
DH claims he hasn’t seen the missing items. Gavin and Patty don’t have thumbs so they can’t write and I have no idea what the pups would need with batteries.
If there were kids in this house, I’d know where the batteries went. I’ve known kids who were guilty of swiping batteries from parent’s remotes to power their stuff.
Usually, our gremlins return the borrowed items. I only need to be patient.
Do you have gremlins? What things do they borrow?
