Last call for plants.
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Yesterday I moved my iris and day lilies that I plan to keep. G picked up the plants she wanted. Now I have to get the rest of the plants off the pond area so I can begin the process of leveling the yard.
I have one stella ‘doro day lily, two other day lilies pictured below, and a rather large yucca plant that need homes. There’s also a large clump of zebra grass and a miniature lilac plant I need to re-home, but they are safe where they are for now.

Another mixed bag

If I don’t post once in a while in the future, it is because my internet connection is giving me fits. One minute it is working great and the next it is telling me it can’t find a page.
Like this one, or my mail, or Facebook. You get the idea.
My arms are itchy with mosquito bites but the yard is slowly getting done with the cooler weather. I have plants to transplant yet. Yesterday I did more cutting and trimming of vines and other stuff. I also got my bricks in place on the front of the side garden.
Today, I plan to clear the growth in the newly bricked area, add topsoil and peat moss, and begin doing my transplanting. If I’m lucky I’ll get that finished in time to send someone off with the pick up truck to get a bunch of mulch.

If only a giant could step on it.
Posted by doggonedmysteries
I still am having trouble seeing what’s left of the pond area becoming a level lawn. I have no idea how I am going to manage flattening out that hilly area all by myself.
Should I plant some magic beans, grow a bean pole, attract a giant and have him stomp the hilly part flat?
I tried to have a ‘flatten the hill’ party, but no one was interested. Just like no one is interested in a large clump of zebra grass, a large Yucca plant, a Stella D’oro day lily, Lily of the Valley, Sweet Woodruff, and one of two miniature lilac plants.
I guess I’ll have to do a yard sale, take the MIL’s jewelry to a jeweler and sell it, and then, maybe, I can afford to hire someone to come in and fix the yard.
Anyone want to buy a few jewel encrusted fancy schmancy watches? 😉
Most of the hill is cleared (3/4s of it) And the vines are off the arbor and fence.

A mixed batch

The Curmudgeon had a bad day again. At one point I had to get the neighbor over to help him back into his chair. Come to find out, he thinks he forgot one of his pills the day before.
One squirrel trapped and relocated. He went for a tomato in the trap so we’re hoping it was the tomato thief.
OMG, I actually baked some date bread yesterday. I was in dire need of something sweet. I also found out that Lucy likes date bread.

Let the tree rat wars begin again.
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Effing tree rats have ruined three very large and not yet ripe Black Krim tomatoes. Let the wars begin.
I bought chicken wire to enclose my two Black Krim tomato plants, leaving the third heirloom tomato plant to fend for itself. It is my hope that they, finding that plant easier to get at will leave my delicious Black Krims alone.
Little smirking tree climbing fancy tailed rats better look out, I gave The Curmudgeon permission to dig out his BB gun too.

Lots of work ahead
Posted by doggonedmysteries
I have my work cut out for me.
Lots of weeds to pull and transplants to do.
This is just a small part of what I have to work on.
You all have a good one!

A mish mosh
Posted by doggonedmysteries
We had quite a storm pass through here last night. Lots of rain and enough thunder and lightning to cause little Lucy a bit of consternation.
Fortunately, Lucy likes to cuddle and that gave her enough security to get past the noise. I blame the idiots around here with the fireworks over the last couple of months for her reaction.
Anyone have any idea why my sage and pepper plants are looking puny? they are in pots and were looking okay at first but the last few days have not looked well. (Yes, I have watered them.) Makes me wonder because, right next to them, my tomato plants look wonderful.
You all have a good one!

To AC or not to AC… if he’s warm we AC
Posted by doggonedmysteries
We had the house opened up all day. It was so nice to have fresh air and no AC drone. Now the AC is back on because The Curmudgeon is warm. I was warm earlier and he griped when I turned the ceiling fan up a notch.
I’m feeling a double standard here.
I am so willing to pay someone to cut all the vines down in the back corner of the yard. I am exhausted from filling two trash barrels full, and there’s so much more to do.

Ruff day!
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Hot weather again yesterday wore this little gal out.
G and I spent the afternoon driving out to our favorite garden shop where I found this guy just waiting for me to pick him up and take him home.
He’s hysterical and anatomically correct.
I have to do some planting tomorrow. I have eggplants, pepper plants, white sage plants, petunias, and Greek oregano.
You all have a good one!
