What to do next…
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Brand new white blinds on windows sure do make the rest of the house look dingy. Glad I have paint. Can you guess what my next project might be?
Yes, it could be painting the house. However, don’t be surprised if it is gardening and working in the yard. The yard needs an overhauling too. Yard Crashers where are you????
Now if only I can find a roofer and someone who can rebuild our over 100-year-old cement front porch.
Better yet, hitting the lottery comes to mind. I’d buy a nice lot somewhere without an HOA and build a new house the way I want it.

It won’t be long …

And the front garden will look like this!
Now we have only greens peeking through and crocus blooming.
And, Yes, the skelemingoes are up year round.

In the starting gate…and…it doesn’t open.

I am going crazy waiting for the weather to get nice enough where I can do some of the much-needed work in the yard. We’ve had cold days, rainy days, but no suitable for gardening days.
Today was sunny. I thought,”Oh joy! Gardening time!” However, when I took the dogs out, the wind made it too chilly to stay out for long. Yes, after this nasty winter, I have become a wimp about the cold.
I need to transplant many plants from around the pond to a holding pattern in the side gardens until I can get the raised beds built. Once we strip the pond garden of plants, we need to do something with the pond liner, i.e. cut it up or slash the crap out of it so we don’t have a boggy area in the yard. Anyone out there feeling destructive and want to volunteer for that job?
You all have a good one!
Volunteers?

These are not from this year. I did take some pictures today, but didn’t get them downloaded. This is where my garden is now, except it needs to be cleared of leaves and winter wind-blown crap.
The garden looks worse than this and is in dire need of mulch. We didn’t get around to mulching it last year at all. What mulch you see here is gone. All I have is tons of leaves.
Since we are planning to fill in the pond, I will be moving many plants this spring. Any volunteers, willing to help me get my pond filled in and gardens in shape, will get plenty of chances at iris and other flowers that need splitting.
I am looking forward to this in the next few months

Even with coffee the brain doesn’t seem to want to function tonight. It has been a rather strange day any and all writing I attempted fell to the wayside. I hope you all will forgive me and enjoy some garden pictures instead.

Mapping out the Spring projects.

I’d be delighted if I could get half of the stuff done I need to do out in the yard and in the house. Once the ground thaws I’ll need to begin to fill in the pond, level and grade the yard away from the house, and start building raised beds.
I will put down a rather large patio area to keep the dogs and The Curmudgeon from tracking in mud all the time. I want raised beds to make it easier to enjoy my gardening. All I need left in grass is an area big enough to play a rousing game of Bocce.
I will miss our pond but it is time to move on and make things easier for ourselves.
Inside the house, I need to get moving on painting the entire interior. Ah yes, now all I need find is the energy to do all of this or volunteers to help me.

A crazy dream
Posted by doggonedmysteries
My yard is so out of control I am ready to call in the professionals. If we’d have a couple of days of cooler, dry weather, The Curmudgeon and I might be able to run the mower and trimmer.
We’ve had rain, rain, and more rain with just enough sunshine to make it humid and hot. Of course that means the grass and weeds are growing like mad.
My gardens are in dire need of weeding. I never did get them mulched, so I am paying for that error now. I think after the leaves fall and once the yard is cleaned up, I will start stock piling mulch for spring.
What I really need is several strong and eager volunteers to clean everything up, fill in the pond, and level the yard.
Yeah, I can hear you laughing. I am as well. As if that will ever happen. *Giggle* Not in my lifetime I’m sure.
My big gargoyle is buried under weeds as are my bronze herons.

The harvest from the potted garden so far…
Posted by doggonedmysteries
So far we’ve enjoyed several fresh tomatoes, even gave G a couple. We’ve had two nice eggplants. One we had a week or two ago and one we enjoyed for our dinner last night. We might get two or three more from the plants if the weather holds up.
We did not get more than two lousy looking peppers, the early and long heat destroyed the plants. I replanted the one pot with romaine lettuce and that is looking rather nice so far.
I planted two pots, that are small enough to bring inside, with rosemary. First sign of frost in they come! We’ve enjoyed the pots of fresh rosemary, chives, and basil all summer.

Will I be able to move tomorrow? We’ll see.

I should have gone to the grocery store, but I figured that can wait a while. We have no idea how long we’ll keep these cooler temperatures. The day was pure bliss.
I made a few inroads on the pond garden, filling two of my three trash barrels, ran the weed-eater all over the edges of the yard. (All is ready for The Curmudgeon to mow if he’ll get off his can and do it.) Came in the house shaking with exhaustion and drenched in sweat. I rested and went back out. Four more times I yanked weeds and ran the weed-eater until its two batteries died, taking short rest and water breaks in between.
Funny, while the weed-eater was running, the frogs would sing with the noise.
I didn’t get outside our fence but since I don’t see it, I don’t care. The city can fine me, but when they do, they’d better fine the apartments and the cemetery too.
Redeep, redeep, croooooaaaak!

The heat we had not only kept us inside in the AC but it silenced my frogs. Yesterday we had cooler weather and singing frogs.
The Curmudgeon remarked that we have at least one very loud frog out in the pond. He hadn’t heard them yet so the volume of the frog’s song startled him. (Wish I’d seen that.)
While I was out making an inroad into the overgrowth of weeds around the pond, one frog decided to serenade me. Later another one sang me his song. Both voices are distinctly different.

Writing is a struggle now. I hope you all don’t mind the pictures I took out in the yard today instead.
First time this Day lily has bloomed since I planted it two years ago.
Probably the only pepper we’ll get from this plant
