Interesting birds showed up yesterday

HPIM2878

I was rather surprised to see two downy woodpeckers and a lovely little nuthatch had decided that our tulip poplar needed an inspection.  This was the best shot I could get from the kitchen window.

You all have a good one!

Puttered in the garden…

Yesterday I had a chance to putter about in the garden.  We had sun and it was warm enough that I didn’t need a jacket.  YES!

I was working on the pond, back washing the filters, and skimming crud from the river.  The Curmudgeon decided to join me.  He must have felt fairly good because he knelt beside the pond and with much groaning and moaning hauled Pan out and managed to fix the hose.  We now have a working fountain again.

I managed to clean the filters and clean out several of my pots.  I would love to have enough nice days to Spring clean all the gardens.

Once I get that done, I’ll be able to map out what I’d like to do for hard-scape and raised flower beds.  Keep your fingers crossed that we have several warm and dry days.

You all have a good one!

Ch ch ch changes….

Today’s sunny weather had me craving Spring something fierce.  I can’t wait to go work in the garden and get walking again.

I have hopes of making some rather large changes to the yard and garden this year.  The pond is going to have to go, I can’t do the upkeep alone, there were some things The Curmudgeon could do easier than I can and he can do them no longer.  Know anyone in PA who wants some lovely, large Koi?  Have them contact me.

I’m hoping to install new stronger, dog-proof fencing between the yards, across the front, and down the alley side.  I want my poor dogs  able to run and play in their yard without me having to hold them on a leash every time they go out.

So far here’s what my Spring looks like:

  • Re-home Koi and fill in pond
  •  Find a fencing company
  • Build raised planting beds and patio with pergola

Looks like I’ll be keeping a certain landscaping company in the money and working my buns off to boot.

You all have a good one!

I can’t wait…

Is anyone else dying for this to come back?

Isn’t Spring yet?

The cold has come upon us with a vengeance.   We’ve dropped into the negative degrees over the weekend.  We are not pleased say the dogs.  I agree.

Funny, as much as the pups hate the cold, they hate sweaters, jackets, or anything else we might put on them to keep them warm.  My two dogs aren’t the brightest bulbs on the chandelier.

I am already looking forward to spring.  Flowers blooming, warm gentle breezes, naps in my hammock.

You all have a good one!

Yay! I have started the vegetable garden.

Yesterday G and I stopped at a favorite nursery and while I loaded up on some lovely vegetable plants, G found flowers to replace what the wet weather and bugs destroyed in her garden.

I now have six tomato plants, two pepper plants, a nice group of four basil plants, and four eggplants ready for the pots beside the house.  Not bad for my first load.  I also bought some Rudbeckia, lavender, and zinnias.  In a week or so I’ll go to the larger nursery we usually go to and pick up more veggies for the back garden.  I want a few more varieties of peppers, bush cucumbers,  and some early eggplants.

I did plant some tomatoes and the basil in pots yesterday.  Today I’ll finish the job and get the flowers planted in the pots on the front porch.

You all have a good one!
