And you think it’s bad when the kids are bored…
Posted by doggonedmysteries
It’s too cold to go outside. Try having bored dogs. Kids you can find something for them to do to amuse themselves. Dogs want you to amuse them.
You can send kids off on new adventures with the turn of a book’s page. Dogs can’t read. Dogs want you to amuse them.
You can hand a kid a TV remote, a board game, an electronic game, or a computer. Dogs don’t have thumbs, they can’t use controllers. Dogs want you to amuse them.
My arms are ready to fall off from throwing various toys all day. The Curmudgeon is also exhausted.
And here comes Lucy with another idea of what we need to play with. Dogs want you to amuse them. Good thing they are so cute and we love them so much.
Wow, did you see what happened when I dropped my tennis ball down the stairs? Did ya? Did ya?

2,222nd post!
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Poor Momma she didn’t get to make her 2,222 post, I did!
Nyah, nyah, nyah, nyah, nyah, nyah!
Momma says she will probably be back in a couple of days. She’s still not up to snuff.
She’s sorta mad at WordPress ’cause she thought they were gonna publish her STATS yesterday but they weren’t on the page when she looked. Sorry to disappoint everyone by not being here yesterday.

The Momma is sick
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Hi, this is Lucy posting for Mommy tonight. Mommy has a bad case of the creeping crud.
She went to the doctor today and he gave her two kinds of medicine. Then he told her to get plenty of rest. She was still laughing about that when she came home. If she’s not better in 5 to 7 days she has to go back. Gavin and I are being her nurses, it’s my shift now.
(*Riffling through the human dictionary* I fink I wrote eberyfing right.)

Is it time yet?
Posted by doggonedmysteries
G and I braved the crowds at the farmers market yesterday. She got a couple of things she wanted and so did I.
We hit the Amish bakery at just the right time. I snagged their last small mince meat pie for The Curmudgeon–it’s his favorite. All they had left in mince meat then was two tiny individual tarts. I also had to get one of their delicious bear claws–they are hard to resist.
One more stand, a one pound container of roasted Brussel sprouts with bacon topped out my bag and we headed home.
Looking forward to our girls night in tonight.
You have a merry, happy, blessed whatever you do.

A new tradition
Posted by doggonedmysteries
So last year G and I started what we hope will become a tradition for us.
G loves Christmas as much as I love Halloween and Christmas Eve is very lonely for her since her husband died.
The Curmudgeon is in bed by seven every night so I am alone too.
Last year I bought champagne, caviar, and smoked salmon. She bought creme fresh, made some baked brie in puffed pastry, and bought water crackers. (We are doing a rerun of the food since we enjoyed it so much.)
We loaded a couple of movies into the DVD player and had a good time.
This year I have a surprise for her. She is a Doctor Who fan but couldn’t get the show on her TV. I have the entire season saved on my DVR for her to watch. Shhhh, don’t tell her.

Lost a day here
Posted by doggonedmysteries
I have no idea what happened to yesterday. I got up and had plans to get some stuff done. However, somewhere between there and now, the day frittered away.
Do you have days like that?

Where has the sun gone?
Posted by doggonedmysteries
It may be December but that shouldn’t mean that our sunshine (what little there is at this time of year) completely disappears for weeks on end.
We’ve had nothing but gray and dreary days with rain (at least it’s not snow).
The forecast tells us that we have four days of partly cloudy weather heading our way. Tell me, what is the difference between partly cloudy and partly sunny?
My floors are muddy with Curmudgeon and dog prints. I am the only one who wipes my feet on the mats. I hope we have some drying of the ground.

Bahhing the humbug.
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Yes, I do I really do Bah Humbug out this year. I get sick of Christmas carols playing from before Thanksgiving until the end of December.
People who have no sense and rush out to do inane shopping for things for people who are so greedy they demand expensive stuff and don’t appreciate anything drive me completely up a wall.
Rude kids and even ruder adults I can do without and this time of year brings them out in hordes.
Yep, Bah Humbug. You can keep it.
Happy and Blessed Winter Solstice to you all.

What to order?
Posted by doggonedmysteries
It’s true I have often complained of having to go grocery shopping. I can’t help it, even with my scanty lists I still hate going.
One thing that helps me not have to go grocery shopping as often is that we have our meats supplied by a food service company. They take our order every six months and then deliver and load the order in our freezer.
We’ve used them for years and love them. They have come in very handy as The Curmudgeon’s health gets worse.
He also enjoys that he gets to help choose the meats and other frozen items he’d like us to have over the next six months. He used to do most of our grocery shopping when he was able to.
Anyway, why did I bring that up? Because I am in the process of working out our order for when our salesman arrives on Tuesday.

Let’s do away with Black Friday
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Yesterday was the one day a year you will never find me out shopping. In fact, I refuse to drive anywhere because of all the lunatics out on the roads.
Black Friday, the once a year trample everyone, rip things out of their hands, gimme that, greediest day of the year. Shame on retailers for perpetuating this. Shame on people for going along with it.
Why not dedicate the day after Thanksgiving to giving to the less fortunate? Instead of going hog-wild greedy in retail stores go donate food to a food bank, make this the day you take all those old clothes to the local men and women’s shelters.
In what I hope will be our new yearly tradition, I spent the day going through our clothes and loading bags to take to the local shelters next week.
If you don’t have old clothes or spare money, donate your time and go read to kids in the hospitals. Help out in a soup kitchen. There are tons of things you can do instead of dancing the greedy dance at the malls.
Tell the retailers to stick it and do something good with your time and money. Teach your kids that there is more to life than gimme. Have them sort through their old toys for some to donate to women’s shelters, homeless shelters, and those with less than they have.
You all claim that you are good people but what have you really done for your fellow-man lately? Sometimes it’s as simple as making sure someone less fortunate has a warm coat, gloves, or a hat for the winter.
You all have a good one.
Even little Lucy has a hoodie to keep her warm.
How the stores add to the high stress of having to shop during the holidays.
Posted by doggonedmysteries
I hate shopping. Yes, I’ve said that many times but it bears repeating.
I had to make a ‘quick’ grocery store run for The Curmudgeon yesterday. I say quick with tongue in cheek. This time of year there is no such thing as quick.
It might have gone faster if:
a. The store didn’t have all those extra displays blocking the aisles.
b. The clerks were not moving slower than a snail’s ass.
c. People actually tried to not block the aisles while they catch up on old times with long-lost friends.
And finally
d. Idiots who only shop once a year would refrain from doing that.
Nothing like taking almost an hour to pick up a couple of items…
You all have a good one.

I think it’s done
Posted by doggonedmysteries
I spent the entire afternoon yesterday clearing the last of the leaves from the yard. Exhaustion doesn’t cover it. Had to be done since rain is in the forecast. I’d rather move light, dry, and fluffy leaves than have to mess with wet ones.
After I rolled up the cord for the leaf blower and put everything away. I went inside, grabbed a tall bottle of lavender mint water, downed that in a few seconds, took the dogs out, fed them, and then served our dinner. Yes, that was one sentence, just to let you know how it felt.
Not much cooking. I had a lovely beef roast, carrots, and potatoes in the crock pot. All I had to do was make the gravy.
I love my crock pot.
You all have a good one!
