Welcome to my circus

One of those days where if I hadn’t had a chance to get out of the house I may have later been picked up by the men in the white coats. Even the dogs were getting on my last nerve.

Had the pleasure of my dearest friend’s company for lunch and a market stroll. Afterwards I felt somewhat normal.

Of course, my normal is everyone else’s nightmare. Our household is a total circus on a good day and I am the ringmaster.

I so need decent weather so I can get out and work in the yard. The pond is so full of leaves and water I could easily hide a body in there… hmmm.

No roof yet

The roofer’s son had his gall bladder out yesterday morning. We had sustained wind at 35 mph all day. In no way did I expect any roofing to be done. It will get done when it gets done. I have faith in this man.

Cardiologist appointment went very well. Cholesterol level is excellent and all else is great. I don’t go back to see him again for six months.

Had KD Lang and Jane Sidberry’s duet ‘Calling All Angels’ running through my head all day. Don’t ask me why. So here’s an ear worm for you today.

You all have a good one!

HPIM3539Red sky at night….

Short note this time.

Since I usually write these in the wee hours of the morning, and I know I won’t be up in the wee hours this night. I am popping in early to leave this note.

Today I am off to my cardiologist (morning appointment and I don’t do mornings…) While I’m gone, the roofer will be working on the roof. His son didn’t have pancreatitis, he had gall stones which at 7 a.m. they removed.

Now I’m off to finish washing my dinner dishes and taking the dogs out so I can get to bed early and make it to my doctor appointment on time.

You all have a good one!

Something pretty to start your day.

What a day

No roof work yesterday. Our roofer’s son is in the hospital with pancreatitis. We can wait, his son is more important.

Instead, I ran to the vet’s office for a bag of Patty’s special kidney diet food. To the pet store for dog cookies sans protein. And then to the grocery store for a few needed items.

Gavin and Patty love their Old Mother Hubbard Cookies. Now they have a bunch of new ones for the pups to try, they are happy campers.

The Curmudgeon tried to help carry some grocery bags from the front door to the kitchen, but for some reason, lost his balance and down he went, whacking his head in the process. He had a totally shit day going anyway, might as well top it off with a real doozy.

I gave him an ice pack and continued on my way to unloading my van and bringing everything inside. Then I put all the stuff away. I think it’s time for a nice spiced rum and coke.

You all have a good one!

HPIM3580Did Someone say cookies???????!!!

No more raindrops keep falling on my head?!

The old roof is well over 100 years old. It is slate. It is shot. It has patches on patches. The pictures this young roofer came down with on his phone to show The Curmudgeon were downright scary.

Today we get a new roof. Yay!

Not looking forward to the morning, I’ll get to wake up to sound of someone pounding on our roof. Not the most pleasant way to wake up, but better than some of my mornings.

Ah, yes. A new roof, good for at least thirty years. No more patches. May this please be the end of our leaks. What a pleasure in the days to come to not have to put buckets under drips. A dream come true.

You all have a good one…I think I’m going to need a lot more coffee.

Another day in the money pit

Slow progress on cleaning up the yard and getting it ready for the make over I hope to be able to do this spring, summer, fall. Yes, I think it will probably take me that long to do it. After all, I won’t have a whole heck of lot of help now will I?

I managed to clean up half of the crap alongside the house and filled two barrels full of leaves. Still have that amount left to do there too. During my clean up, I found one small snake-I played with it a bit before I let it loose under the tulip poplar. There were many large night crawlers re-homed to the side garden and I came across one hyperactive salamander. He was fun to play with too and also found a new home in one of the gardens. It’s no wonder it takes me so long to get things done. I get so easily distracted.

Hiring someone to do the garden clean up looks better and better as my muscles were screaming in protest after only a short amount of time but very intense work.

Neighbor’s friend the roofer guy showed up today to check out and see what our roof is going to cost us. He’s going to do up an estimate. Plus there’s that falling apart front porch issue we need to address. We might as well stick our hands in the air and smile.  It seems there’s no such thing as us getting a break.

Rain tomorrow may slow the clean up progress even more. However,I will plaster a smile on my face and keep moving forward. Might be a good day to finish hanging the blinds.

You all have a good one!

104_1757Magnolia today. Full bloom won’t be too far off.

Time to breathe…

Yesterday was some day.  The Curmudgeon had two MRIs scheduled. Both were with and without contrast so you could say he had four of them.  I couldn’t go with him because I had a doctor’s appointment as well in the opposite direction.

I had wanted to get the last set of the downstairs blinds up but was too danged tired after the day before and the crazy up and down the ladder a million times blinds fiasco. Talk about sore muscles! I was one big ouch.

Today I am not going to think about it, I am off to lunch with a friend.

You all have a good one, I plan to.

What to do next…

Brand new white blinds on windows sure do make the rest of the house look dingy. Glad I have paint. Can you guess what my next project might be?

Yes, it could be painting the house. However, don’t be surprised if it is gardening and working in the yard. The yard needs an overhauling too. Yard Crashers where are you????

Now if only I can find a roofer and someone who can rebuild our over 100-year-old cement front porch.

Better yet, hitting the lottery comes to mind. I’d buy a nice lot somewhere without an HOA and build a new house the way I want it.

Do I really hate the house I’ve lived in for over forty years?

I hate this house. I have hated this house for over forty years. We made the HUGE mistake of buying the house from the in-laws. Never buy a house from your in-laws. We weren’t in it a week when we discovered we had termites, thirty years worth of them. Did the in-laws pay to get rid of them? Nope, we did. Yes, I hate this house.

Our first winter in the house the furnace blew, filling the basement with smoke and leaving us without heat on the coldest week of the year. Yes, I hate this house.

The roof leaks. It has been repaired more times than I care to count. It only leaks when we finally get ALL the damage repaired from the last leak. It’s enough to make you stop repairing the damage.

Back by the back of the house, where the outside cellar door is, we have another leak. A leak that we can seem to stop. We’ve tried everything available to do so and yet, it still leaks. Yes, I hate this house.

The cement front porch has decided to decay, badly. This winter wasn’t kind. Repairing it is going to cost us a small fortune. Yes, I hate this house.

Are we heading to swamp yard 2014?

Had a delightful day yesterday even with the rain. G and I went out to lunch at Lily Sushi and Grill http://www.lilysushigrill.com/ and then shopping at Target. We didn’t buy much, but as usual I spent more than she did.  LOL!

I hope the two days of rain we’re in for don’t make our yard a complete swamp, because the weather for a few days after that is looking wonderful. I’d love to get out in the yard and work a bit.

Patty thought she’d melt and it was merely a drizzle. We had to push her out the door every time. Gavin doesn’t care, his philosophy is: When you’ve got to pee you’ve got to pee.

HPIM3641At least it’s NOT this.

Record cold! NO!!!!

yard scrabbleI want to work in the yard. I want to build this!

I want warm weather, not record cold.

Yes, I am whining.

I have had enough cold weather.

Make. It. Stop.

Sick of cooking?

I have days where I am so beyond tired of cooking that nothing sounds good. I dig through cookbook after cookbook to find something that appeals to me. Those are the days I usually order a pizza, Chinese food, or just wing it with an easy to fix and clean up afterwards meal.

One of my favorite fall back meals is beef and bean burritos. The Curmudgeon loves them, I can serve them on paper plates, and have very little clean up afterwards.

What do you do when you’re sick of cooking?

Do you have any recipes that you tend to fall back on?
