Timberrrrrr…yeah, that’s why I don’t do ladders.
Posted by doggonedmysteries
So the basement finally dried out. Unless I can find someone to come and clean my gutters and replace the down spout on the back porch, we’ll have more water the next time it rains.
I don’t do ladders and roofs. I have trouble doing ladders inside the house much less taller ladders outside. I have this fear of heights. It wasn’t always with me, but it started during my early teen years and grew as got older.
As a child I had no fear. I would climb to the highest branches of the trees, clamber headlong up rocky cliffs, and lean over the edges. I didn’t fear death and dying, those words didn’t enter my vocabulary for a long time.
I explored and experimented with plenty of things as I grew up. Then one day, I learned to fear a little. That fear grew with experience.
I wish I were that child again. I’d tell that first taste of fear to leave me alone along with all subsequent ones. Then, maybe I’d enjoy climbing a ladder to the roof, maybe I wouldn’t have panic attacks and sweaty palms driving over high bridges and along cliff edges.
You all have a good one.

Less junk, less clutter…less pressure?
Posted by doggonedmysteries
For the past week we’ve had someone cleaning out some accumulated junk from our yard. It probably would’ve taken a mere day if the guy had proper tools and no interruptions.
The dogs suffered from shy bowels for a solid week. Poor dears. Neither one could go as long as the guy and his friend were in the yard working. It was hysterical.
I am happy to say that the old Cushman buggy and the old mobility scooter are now gone. The scooter couldn’t be fixed. Unfortunately, this means we’re out a mobility scooter for The Curmudgeon. The yard looks better. The majority of the clutter is gone.
The scooter was great for those days when The Curmudgeon had difficulty walking. He could still take the dogs out and help out a bit. Now there’s very little he can do to help since most days are bad days.
With us soon paying for the removal of the old tub, and replacing it with a shower that The Curmudgeon can more easily use, the cost of a new scooter is prohibitive. It sucks. However, we will manage.
Before anyone jumps in telling me to start asking others for money… We do not do chip ins or anything of the sort. If we can’t do it ourselves, it will wait until we can. We have always taken care of ourselves and never depended on anyone else. We do not plan to change that.

It still takes a village if you can get the village to care

Years ago The Curmudgeon and I were a neighborhood safe-haven for kids after school. This was for any child in the neighborhood who found themselves locked outside with no one home.
This happens sometimes. A parent gets stuck in traffic, at the grocery store, or is running late and isn’t home when the child gets home. This was when we opened our door to the child instead of him/her having to stay outside in inclement weather, with bullying kids around, or when injured.
We weren’t baby sitters, we were a refuge when necessary.
Today we were one again when a neighbor’s child came home to find no one home, in ninety degree, humid weather. They don’t know us as the old neighbors did, and I’m sure he didn’t trust us. But I couldn’t bear watching this poor child swelter on their porch and called him over. I let him use our phone, sit in the AC house, and gave him ice water.
I hope his parents don’t make this a habit…

You could tell it was hot because…

The barking squirrel who scolded The Curmudgeon every time he went outside this past week was napping in the tree.

MS so sucks
Posted by doggonedmysteries
The Curmudgeon went with our friend to get a part for our leaking flush valve flapper. His friend replaced it for us today. Yay, no more running toilet to cost us $$. We should see the water bill go down a tad. Thank you R for doing the repair.
Unfortunately, The Curmudgeon went with our friend to get the replacement part. Why unfortunately you ask? Because after being out in the heat, he was shot for the rest of the day and night.
It drives The Curmudgeon crazy that he can’t even do the simple jobs around here anymore. According to the dogs, he even needs help to make his own toast.

Saving for a rainy day…
Posted by doggonedmysteries
I’m still looking for a buyer for my guitar and case. Guitar Center wasn’t interested since it doesn’t have a label. A while back another place valued it (with the case) at around $350.00.
Yesterday, I sold all our old coins and made a nice little sum of cash to add to our savings account. I was happily surprised as to how much we got for them. Every bit helps.
Next, I need to find a buyer or buyers for the antique china, The Shawnee Tom the Piper’s Son and S&P Shakers, the Lionel trains, and the two old toy firetrucks. (One is quite large.) I can’t see the sense in storing them any longer when we could use the money to save for a rainy day. That rainy day isn’t far off at the rate The Curmudgeon’s health is going.

Lazy snuggles
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Having spent a lazy day loafing about, reading, and generally being totally lazy, my back pain began to ease up. YAY!
It’s so nice to not have that nagging at me today. What’s even nicer is, I don’t have to worry about anything for a few days.
I spent my evening snuggling with Gavin on the couch while Patty snuggled with her Daddy in his chair. We all enjoyed this lazy day of snuggles.

Yes, to a nothing day.
Posted by doggonedmysteries
How nice it would be to spend today doing nothing. I could use a nothing day. I spent all of the last few days cleaning, weeding, washing, vacuuming, dusting, reorganizing, and I’m still not done.
My back says, “Enough! Take a freaking break and get off your feet so I can rest.
I do believe I’ll listen to it. Besides, Monday afternoon the new rugs will arrive, I’ll need my back in good shape then.

Let the de-cluttering and reorganization begin!
Posted by doggonedmysteries
I put new wood drawer dividers in one of the few drawers that I didn’t have any sort of organizer in and boy, what a difference that made. I think I’ll be buying more.
It’s time to install all the other organizers I bought in hopes of making things easier to clean up around here.
Yeah, I know. I sound all enthusiastic and ready to roll don’t I? Then I look around at all the stuff that really needs doing and all that energy seems to jump out of me and land somewhere else. Have you found it?
I can almost picture it dashing away, tail between its legs, yipping in terror. I swear since clearing out the MIL’s house and having a lot of the stuff dragged home by The Curmudgeon, this place looks like it is one load away from an episode of hoarders. I need to start dragging stuff from one antique shop to another until I sell it all.

Old habits die hard…

This is the cup I use every day.
This is my new cup. We’ll see how long it takes for me to go back to my old Harry Potter Cup.
UPDATE!!!
The lettering came off when I washed the cup. Nowhere on the cup or packaging did it warn that this was hand painted and not for daily use. I do not have a dishwasher so this was hand washed. I am so sorry I spent the money to have what I thought was a fun cup to use. Fortunately, the owner of Revell House will refund my money. However, it’s still back to my Harry Potter cup for me.
