BBQ ribs!!!
Posted by doggonedmysteries
A Facebook friend gave me a fabulous recipe for ribs starting with a wonderful dry rub and then a slow cooking method. Well, I used the dry rub, had the ribs in it for 10 hours. Then I put them into my crock pot with sliced onions under them and I poured a small amount of apple juice into the pot. I cooked them on high for two hours and then turned them to low for three hours. The last hour, I slathered them with BBQ sauce. They were as yummy as they look.

Help wanted: Shopping for a new computer monitor…
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Okay all you electronics wizards tell me now, which brand computer monitor would you buy and why? LCD or LED? It cannot be any wider than 20.5 inches and no higher than 19 inches. That is the space into which it must fit. Plus, I do not have boatloads of cash.
I’ve been looking at two at Staples: A Gateway FHX2152L and a Viewsonic VA2212M-LED.
My Xerox LCD monitor is beginning to crap out. It has worked liked a dream for years. Now we have to turn it on and off twenty times before it will start-up.
You all have a good one.

There’s a skeleton sitting in my chair…

Here it is November the ninth and I still have most of my Halloween stuff out and about. In this house, there’s always some hanging about year round, but the majority is put away, except for now.
Some of my Halloween stuff works well for Thanksgiving and Autumn. 😀
I don’t put up Christmas decor at all. It is not my thing.

What is comfort food for you?
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Some days you want a simple dinner and nothing fancy. That was us last night. Comfort food. I made grilled cheese with bacon sandwiches and cream of tomato soup. We couldn’t believe how well it hit the spot for us.
We had so many large and somewhat fancy dinners all week, that was a nice change. Fewer dishes to wash made it real nice after having to wash many dishes and pots and pans all week.
I am sorely tempted to make simple meals all weekend to give me a break.
Comfort food, I think we all crave it most at this time of year. What is comfort food for you?

We’ve muddled through
Posted by doggonedmysteries
After high winds and lots of rain we feel lucky that all we had, was some water in the basement, a few branches down from both the magnolia and tulip poplar trees, some panels of the solid fencing blown out, and a few center cross pieces knocked down on the side fence. It could have been a lot worse.
I’ve heard that a few friends have had entire trees fall down and crush vehicles. Ouch. Floods swept through many areas, so a wet basement in comparison is nothing.
Our electricity went off and on several times, enough that I stayed off the computer rather than risk having it on when the electric went out. Nothing compared to those who are still without electricity. We were lucky.
We still have rain.
The dogs were not amused with this weather.
You all have a good one.

In the path of Sandy the Frankenstorm

I have tied down anything outside that could blow away with the exception of our fencing. If that blows away we’re screwed. The fencing company that put it in is no longer in business.
Once the heavy-duty winds and rains hit us the dogs will decide they no longer want to go outside. I will have to shove them out the back door.
I hope everyone weathers this storm safely. I may not be on here for a few days if we lose power, and if that happens, I will see you all ASAP.
Stay safe! You all have a good one!

I hate wireless crap!
Posted by doggonedmysteries
I am not amused today. I spent well over two hours trying to get my printer to talk to both my desk top and lap top computers. It still refuses. I don’t know what they are fighting over, an affair with another printer? I don’t think so. Is my printer in some sort of snit over something the computers or wireless router said? Maybe.
All I know is, I am a writer, I need my printer to work, and it isn’t working. I walked through the Verizon In home Agent app. and that lying piece of crap is no help what-so-ever! I am mere seconds from throwing the printer through a wall.
No, that threat didn’t help, the printer still refuses to talk to my computers. Wireless, a real pain in the ass piece of crap technology for the masses to hate. Even my wireless mouse is crap good thing it’s only for my lap top. I had a wireless keyboard and got rid of it. I like my hard-wired keyboard.
You all have a good one. I imagine I will once I take a sledge-hammer to my printer. 😀

Hoodie weather has arrived
Posted by doggonedmysteries
The weather turned chilly last night. With temperatures dropping down to 41 degrees I finally got a chance to wear my new hoodie when I took the dogs out for their last out of the night.
I can now tell how worn out my old one was. The new one is so much warmer! Plus I do love this picture on mine…
The Curmudgeon will be pleased in the morning when he takes the pups out while wearing his new hoodie. He’s usually cold even when I think it’s warm.

Bouncy bruisey Cirque du Soleil Bullies!
Posted by doggonedmysteries
If my dogs had thumbs and rope we’d be in real trouble. I believe they think they are reincarnations of the flying Wallendas. Yesterday, they did their absolute best to imitate Cirque du Soleil with flying leaps, hucklebutts, and rebounds off the couch.
Shades of trampoline acrobatics! Just my luck I was in their way and became part of their crazy routine. Yikes! Ouch!
If you don’t have bullies you probably will never understand how I get so many bruises. If you do have bullies, you have bruises, and many of them you have no idea how they appeared where they did when they did.

Slow cookery–tasty!
Posted by doggonedmysteries
I love food cooked in my crock pot and wonder why I don’t do use it more often. We had a lovely, tender and flavorful beef roast with all the trimmings last night. The Curmudgeon was one very happy camper.
Last time I used the crock pot I made some pretty lousy apple crisp oatmeal. I won’t be making that again. It was the first thing I ever made in a crock pot that actually turned out bad.
What I love about my Kindle is that I have downloaded a bunch of free cook books and that included several crock pot cook books. Once the cool weather settles in here, I do believe the crock pot will get a good workout.
Do you have any favorite crock pot recipes?

Is it a man thing?

Yesterday…My bedroom door popped open and The Curmudgeon startled me awake by asking, “Are you going to run me to my neurologist appointment at one?”
Once I got my heart rate back down to a somewhat normal cha-cha rhythm, I glanced at the clock. It was noon and I needed a shower and coffee before I went anywhere. “Are you freaking kidding me?”
“Well I did ask you on Wednesday.”
“You could’ve reminded me last night so I remembered to set my alarm and got up with enough time to shower, have coffee, and drive you there.” I dragged my sorry ass out of bed, grabbed my towel, and headed to the bathroom.
“Well, are you taking me? I don’t think I can drive today.”
“Yeah. If you have my coffee ready for me when I get downstairs.”
One quick shower later I was downstairs sipping on my coffee when he asked me another question. “Do you think you can print out my med list?”
“Easy answer for that one. No, we don’t have time. You forget, my computer doesn’t talk to my printer and I don’t have your med list on my lap top yet. Grab the list off the cupboard door and update it.”
We get into the car and ready to go when he starts asking me questions about certain buttons he sees. This was only his second time in my van.
I respond through clenched teeth. “If you want to get there, you might want to keep quiet and let me drive instead of saying, ‘look at that what is it?'”
He survived the trip–I didn’t kill him…
