That downward spiral that is MS

It would be so nice to be able to write that The Curmudgeon had a great day.  I do not see that coming down the pike any time soon.

If anyone tells you that watching a loved one go downhill due to an ailment of some sort, isn’t the hardest thing in the world to do, they are full of shit.

I’ve watched The Curmudgeon trudge that downward spiral for years and the last few have been the worst.  I dread waking up and going downstairs each day.  I fear what I’ll find.  Is he having an okay day or is he having another bad day?  Far too often the bad days outnumber the good.

The strong man I married is no longer who I see.  I see a stranger.  I see his frustration, his bitterness, and his flagging spirit.  He lashes out at me on occasion.  I lash out at him too.   It’s on days like that where I need to find someplace to escape to so we both can decompress.

I lost my weekly Border’s decompression when they closed their store.  The gym just doesn’t cut it for me, it is not a place where I am at ease.  Starbucks here is a little stand at a mall.  It seems to me there are no more comfortable places for a writer to go around here.  Don’t suggest the local library, they don’t like it when you come in to hang out and there’s no coffee.

Happy Birthday Aunt Alice!

This is my Dad’s sister Alice with her great grand-daughter.  Today is Alice’s 93rd birthday!!!   Big hugs and lots of love to you on your birthday, Aunt Alice.

It still takes a village if you can get the village to care

Years ago The Curmudgeon and I were a neighborhood safe-haven for kids after school.  This was for any child in the neighborhood who found themselves locked outside with no one home.

This happens sometimes.  A parent gets stuck in traffic, at the grocery store, or is running late and isn’t home when the child gets home.  This was when we opened our door to the child instead of him/her having to stay outside in inclement weather, with bullying kids around, or when injured.

We weren’t baby sitters, we were a refuge when necessary.

Today we were one again when a neighbor’s child came home to find no one home, in ninety degree, humid weather.  They don’t know us as the old neighbors did, and I’m sure he didn’t trust us.  But I couldn’t bear watching this poor child swelter on their porch and called him over.  I let him use our phone, sit in the AC house, and gave him ice water.

     I hope his parents don’t make this a habit…

You all have a good one!

Now that’s a switch…

I seldom go dashing into the bedroom to awaken The Curmudgeon, but last night I did.

It seems that when I flipped the switch on the back porch to turn on the light a snap, crackle, and popping noise came from it.  I knocked it off in a hurry and ran to my nearest electrician.  Yep, The Curmudgeon.  He actually went to school for it way back In high school though he never did make a career out of it.

He told me to not turn it on for the rest of the night and he’d look at it in the morning.

Duh, like I’d hit that switch again after that.

Wouldn’t you’d know he forgot about it all day.  I asked him if he’d fixed it at dinner and found out then.  He worked on it afterwards.  I carried a bar stool out there for him, helped remove the screws, and left the rest for him to do.  I do not like to play with electricity.

Now when I turn on the light out there I don’t hear all sorts of bad noises.  Yay, for The Curmudgeon on fixing it.

You all have a good one!

Another day

The Curmudgeon had a slightly better day.  He was able to walk with the walker.  I didn’t have to help him up from the floor.  It’s a good thing too.

My back is a shambles again.  I didn’t go grocery shopping as planned, instead I spent as much time seated as possible.

I hope to stop and grab a few major items we need while I’m out with G today.  Maybe we’ll even squeeze in a farmers market stop before we go home.  G is driving, we are going to place she likes, and I have no idea where it is.  LOL!  Nothing like a mystery trip.

Now it’s time for me to go fire up my Kindle.  You all have a good one.51uJzmtxoYL__SL500_AA300_

Newsflash!

After me giving The Curmudgeon both barrels on the need to get his muscles working and in better shape, I heard him using the weight machine.

He was whining the other night about how sore his legs were after a short trip through Home Depot.  Yesterday he did some more whining and I went off on him.

Even though it killed me to do it, I read him the riot act because all he does is sit in his chair.  If he doesn’t work his muscles they will stop working for him.  He may have MS and his nerves may not be normal but by allowing his muscles to atrophy he is helping this disease beat him.

I think he finally got it!  Let’s hope he keeps this up and gets his muscles back in working order.

You all have a good one.

A crazy dream

My yard is so out of control I am ready to call in the professionals.  If we’d have a couple of days of cooler, dry weather, The Curmudgeon and I might be able to run the mower and trimmer.

We’ve had rain, rain, and more rain with just enough sunshine to make it humid and hot.  Of course that means the grass and weeds are growing like mad.

My gardens are in dire need of weeding.  I never did get them mulched, so I am paying for that error now.  I think after the leaves fall and once the yard is cleaned up, I will start stock piling mulch for spring.

What I really need is several strong and eager volunteers to clean everything up, fill in the pond, and level the yard.

Yeah, I can hear you laughing.  I am as well.  As if that will ever happen.  *Giggle*  Not in my lifetime I’m sure.

My big gargoyle is buried under weeds as are my bronze herons.

Fair pictures!

Had our funnel cake, sausage sandwiches, and lemonade.  Got some giggles in, exhausted ourselves, and had some fun which G and I needed.

It’s all about balance

Or so I’ve been told.  For The Curmudgeon it’s keeping it, or losing it.  At present he uses the rollator more than his cane and still manages to lose his balance.

Oh wait, we’re not talking that sort of balance are we?  According to Dictionary.com:

bal·ance

[baluhns]  noun, verb, bal·anced, bal·anc·ing.

noun

1. a state of equilibrium or equipoise; equal distribution of weight, amount, etc.
2. something used to produce equilibrium; counterpoise.
3. mental steadiness or emotional stability; habit of calm behavior, judgment, etc.
4. a state of bodily equilibrium: He lost his balance and fell down the stairs.
5. an instrument for determining weight, typically by the equilibrium of a bar with a fulcrum at the center, from each end of which is suspended a scale or pan, one holding an object of known weight, and the other holding the object to be weighed.

verb (used with object)

18. to bring to or hold in equilibrium; poise: to balance a book on one’s head.
19. to arrange, adjust, or proportion the parts of symmetrically.
20. to be equal or proportionate to: I’m always happy when cash on hand balances expected expenses. One side of an equation must balance the other.

21. Accounting.

a. to add up the two sides of (an account) and determine the difference.
b. to make the necessary entries in (an account) so that the sums of the two sides will be equal.
c. to settle by paying what remains due on an account; equalize or adjust.
22. to weigh in a balance.

verb (used without object)

26. to have an equality or equivalence in weight, parts, etc.; be in equilibrium: The account doesn’t balance. Do these scales balance?
27. Accounting. to reckon or adjust accounts.
28. to waver or hesitate: He would balance and temporize endlessly before reaching a decision.
29. Dance. to move forward and backward or in opposite directions.

30. in the balance, with the outcome in doubt or suspense: While the jury deliberated, his fate rested in the balance.
31. on balance, considering all aspects: On balance, the new product is doing well.
Origin:
1250–1300; Middle English balaunce  < Anglo-French; Old French balance  < Vulgar Latin *balancia,  variant of *bilancia,  equivalent to Late Latin bilanc-  (stem of bilanx  with double scales; Latin bi- bi-1  + lanx  metal dish, pan of a pair of scales) + -ia -ia

bal·ance·a·ble, adjective

3. poise, composure. 6. See remainder. 13. See symmetry.

     Wow, balance has many meanings.

I am working on finding my balance.  I can’t tell you how many yoga and meditation DVDs and CDs I have.  And then there are all the Kindle meditation and yoga books waiting for me to read them.  Yoohoo balance where are you?

I hope you too will find your balance.  You all have a good one!

Saving for a rainy day…

I’m still looking for a buyer for my guitar and case.  Guitar Center wasn’t interested since it doesn’t have a label.  A while back another place valued it (with the case) at around $350.00.

Yesterday, I sold all our old coins  and made a nice little sum of cash to add to our savings account.  I was happily surprised as to how much we got for them.  Every bit helps.

Next, I need to find a buyer or buyers for the antique china, The Shawnee Tom the Piper’s Son and S&P Shakers, the Lionel trains, and the two old toy firetrucks. (One is quite large.)  I can’t see the sense in storing them any longer when we could use the money to save for a rainy day.  That rainy day isn’t far off at the rate The Curmudgeon’s health is going.

You all have a good one!

It’s amazing how one simple movement can wreck your day or possibly week.

I walked in from the back porch with a casserole in my hands and didn’t get the door closed tight behind me, so I backed up and went to bump it with my butt.

Well, I didn’t back up far enough and when I went to bump the door closed I managed to somehow, at that instant, throw my lower back way out of whack.  Can you say ouch?  Can you say smart move, lady?  I said that and more.  Lots. More.

After all the worry about throwing my back out by trying to lift The Curmudgeon, I went and did it anyway, brilliantly, and in the dumbest possible way ever.

Yep, right about there…Spine 103/365      While I’m nursing my back, I hope you all have a good day.

Zzzzzzz’s like crazy

My allergies were acting up the other night.  Therefore, I took two Benadryl before bed instead of the usual one.  I did not hear a single sound until one in the afternoon.  LOL!

Talk about zonked out.  The fact that I got only three hours of sleep the night before didn’t help either.  It’s a good thing The Curmudgeon had a decent day and didn’t need me.  We agree, I probably needed it.

He claims that the dogs were well-behaved and didn’t ask to out as often as usual.  I’m not sure about that, they are real stinkers at times.  He may have been sparing me some guilt.

I do believe he had them up very early and that’s why they wanted their naps so bad by two o’clock that Gavin even resorted to scolding me.  At seven last night they were begging to go to bed.  My dogs are not night owls like their Mommy.

Now, it is time for me to scoot out of here and make sure they get their late night out.

You all have a good one!
