Tomorrow my friend G’s husband has surgery. They will remove part of his colon, give him an ostomy bag, check his liver, and see what they can do to prolong his life. The doctor spoke of doing a round of chemo right away too. I am burning many candles for him.
We’ve been keeping an eye on my friend G and making sure she eats, rests, and, in general, takes care of herself during this trying time. I promised her another dinner and some cheesecake for dessert tomorrow.

Sad, sad times
Posted by doggonedmysteries
My best friend is devastated, her husband was just diagnosed with stage four cancer. I have no words just an overwhelming sadness. A cavernous sorrow for them, our friends of thirty-nine years.
All we can do is be there for them as they need us.
My posts may become a bit erratic for time… please bear with us.

Blank blankety blanked
Posted by doggonedmysteries
It’s bad enough when I lose a word or my train of thought derails in a fatal wreck. However, when I draw a blank on what to post here I am truly screwed.
Banging my head on the keyboard does nothing to knock things loose either, except maybe a few keys. Screaming only wakes the dogs and The Curmudgeon and makes all three cranky.
Another cup of coffee…
Yes, that might do the trick since the dogs and The Curmudgeon woke me a good hour before my alarm would’ve gone off. At least the Curmudgeon was happy the furniture people brought a replacement for his new chair which decided to fall apart within weeks of arrival.
I’ve noticed that this chair makes much less noise when he lowers the footrest…
That’s all I’ve got folks, you have a good one!

No pressure day is nice
Posted by doggonedmysteries
I think we were overdue for a nice quiet day with no appointments, no visitors, and no pressure. That’s what we had yesterday. A very nice day.
The day before yesterday The Curmudgeon had another bad day where he went down on the floor again and couldn’t get back up without help. Fortunately, we found out that it wasn’t just because it was his day after his Avonex injection day, but he’d also forgotten to take some of his morning meds. Don’t ask.
Tomorrow is my Aunt Alice’s birthday, she will be 92. Happy Birthday dear lady!
You all have a good one!

Another joke…thanks Cuz Gloria.

My cousin sent me a good joke. I knew I had to pass it on.
There I was sitting at the bar staring at my drink when a large, trouble-making biker steps up next to me, grabs my drink and gulps it down in one swig.
“Well, whatcha’ gonna do about it?” he says, menacingly, as I burst into tears.
“Come on, man,” the biker says, “I didn’t think you’d CRY. I can’t stand to see a man crying.”
“This is the worst day of my life,” I say.
“I’m a complete failure. I was late to a meeting and my boss fired me.
When I went to the parking lot, I found my car had been stolen and I don’t have any insurance. I left my wallet in the cab I took home. I found my wife with another man… and then my dog bit me.”
“So I came to this bar to work up the courage to put an end to it all, I buy a drink, I drop the cyanide capsule in and sit here watching the poison dissolve knowing I only had 8 hours left to live and then you show up and drink the whole damn thing!
“But, hell, enough about me, how are you doing?”

Another bath? Really?

Patty hates water (except to drink it) and she hates baths most of all. She got two baths because after the first one she rolled in the mud outside. Now she’s busy plotting her revenge on me.

Another fun thing about the new car…
Posted by doggonedmysteries
I stopped at my regular gas station to fill up the new van, I was down to below a half a tank. I pulled into the full service as I always do–I have a sensitivity to gas fumes that brings on a migraine. The service man knows me and my old van, so when I opened my window and leaned out as he came around the back, I managed to surprise him.
“Squeee, new van.” I told him.
“Nice one!” He said.
While the tank filled, I showed him all the neat features. Funny how we all seem to point out the clock and how coolly elegant it is.

All in a day’s training
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Patience, practice, praise, and a few treats. Carefully enunciated words accompanied with hand signals and praise, praise, praise when they get it right. Well, sometimes you need to hold back on the praise because they get a bit too cocky. That’s when you treat them instead. Whatever you normally serve them is fine.
You can use phrases like good boy and atta boy, especially when they accomplish something difficult. There’s nothing like the way they look at you for approval when they do something they think is difficult–like putting the seat down on the toilet.
Yes, we’re talking the training of husbands here not the dogs. Even the most stubborn of dogs is much easier.
