Time has flown

Looking at Gavin’s records while getting ready for his yearly check up and shots this week I find it hard to believe he’ll be ten years old in November. I find it especially difficult to believe after he and Patty run madly about the house chasing each other.
The picture above was taken when he was twelve weeks old.

And the hits keep coming
Posted by doggonedmysteries
If it isn’t year old hospital bills for the MIL, or my latest adventure in hospital land, it’s bills for something over at the MIL’s house.
The roofer is going to start working over there now–that’s an ouch, but a necessary expense. The garage roof MUST be repaired. There’s no getting around it.
I’ll be over there after Gavin’s vet appointment on Thursday. Oh, yeah, that’s two more bills, Gavin and Patty need check ups and shots. He goes this week and she goes next week.
After having the bright idea of taking them together in the hope that Patty would make Gavin less fearful, we found we were wrong. Gavin made her more fearful. I swore I’d never take them to the vet at the same time again. Ever.

Treating myself to the good stuff
Posted by doggonedmysteries
I do love that we have a farmers market nearby. I wish it was open more than three days a week though.
This week I bought chicken sausages for me–DH doesn’t like them. I bought four varieties jalapeno and apricot, wild mushrooms and asagio cheese, lemon-wine-garlic and parsely, and artichoke a calamatra olive. I’ll have the chicken sausage when he has his pork sausages.
Another treat I found at the market were fresh figs. I behaved myself and didn’t even look at any of the bakery stands.
I’ve already begun to write up my list for my next trip.

We might not have these this year…

A very poor pumpkin crop this year may prevent G and I from doing our usual fancy carves. So far the harvest looks bleak.

Milestone?
Posted by doggonedmysteries
One month ago today I wound up in the hospital emergency room and then in the cardiac cath lab where I had a stent put midway in my right coronary artery.
It’s hard to believe it is already a month. It certainly doesn’t feel as though that much time has passed.
At this time I’m waiting for the arrival of a medic alert necklace for me and, since I was ordering one anyway, I also ordered one for DH. He’s finally convinced that HE should have one. (It’s about time!)

A leap from summer to fall
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Yesterday the day began warm and humid but after a storm passed through, the temperatures took a quick dive. We went from summer to fall in a matter of minutes.
Our spring was very wet. We had a miserable summer with high temperatures beginning early and staying for what felt like forever.
Now we’re back to wet weather. We didn’t get to enjoy much outdoor time this season. Last night the temperatures dropped to the mid forties. We went from shorts weather to needing a jacket in one day.
Even the dogs don’t know what to make of it. They like that it’s cooler but I know neither one likes snow so they have to be thinking about that…don’t they?

First check up
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Yesterday I saw my cardiologist for my first check up since I was in the hospital. It’s nice to know that there is no damage to my heart. He told me I probably won’t have to stay on two of my meds for more than another month or two.
My doctor is very pleased with my progress. He released me to all normal activities. YAY! I was cautioned to not over do it. He gave me the old ‘if you feel tired…rest’ speech.
In two months I go for another blood test, and then in another two months after that I go back to see him again. By that time I hope to have my cholesterol and blood pressure down to acceptable levels.

Plenty of sunshine and bird watching
Posted by doggonedmysteries
We had another lovely day with plenty of sunshine and breezes that kept the temperatures from climbing to the uncomfortable range.
A large flock of gold finches spent the afternoon munching away at the Echinacea seed heads in the side garden. They were determined to get their fill. They never went far from the flowers even when the dogs were out.
The cardinals brought their latest hatch of young ones to the yard to flit from tree to tree. It looks as though the males outnumbered the females in this bunch.
It seems as though the robins and wrens have left early for their southern vacation. I hope this doesn’t mean a long and extemely cold winter for us.

Another day…
Posted by doggonedmysteries
I finally went grocery shopping. Wow, I had no idea that I’d get so darned tired. It was wonderful to have the bagger follow me out to the van and load the bags for me. I was very tired.
I felt as though I’d walked miles by the time I arrived home. Then I had to unload my van. I was fortunate to find no cars parked in front of the house so I could pull my van’s rear door even with the front door. Yay, that saved me quite a few steps.
DH arrived downstairs in time to carry in the two heaviest bags for me. It seemed to take forever to put things away.
Then for dinner I got to try out my new Le Creuset Bistro grill pan that was delivered right before I went shopping. I L O V E it!
I made a lovely Sockeye salmon fillet for my dinner and DH had a hamburger steak–he doesn’t like fish. The grill pan was a treat to use and very easy to clean up afterwards.

Oh, freaking DUH!
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Wednesday I go for my first cardio check up since the heart attack. It’s a bit intimidating it’s not like I had any advance warning I’d be having surgery.
Which brings me to the bill we got on Saturday. It seems that I wasn’t precertified for the procedure. Um, it was an emergency, doesn’t that mean there wouldn’t be a precertification? Or do you call them for precertification before you dial 911 for the ambulance?
Don’t you just adore insurance companies?

It’s a man thing?

Ages ago I told DH about the zinc in his denture adhesive and how the constant use of it could mimic a demyelinating disease…like his MS…um, making his symptoms worse? He ignored me.
The other day he decided he needed to change his denture adhesive immediately because the zinc in it might be making his MS symptoms worse. Hmmm, where did I hear that before?

But, but, but…DANGIT!
Posted by doggonedmysteries
The gardens were screaming for a weeding. I couldn’t help myself, I started by tugging some bindweed off my tomato plants. That lead to pulling some hummingbird vine that is invading everything.
Then there were those tall grasses that were crowding into the flower beds. I tugged a bunch of them out. I guess DH missed my presence because he found me outside.
I was scolded and sent inside. {Pouty face}
