I’m growing mold
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Another day of sprinkling rain and a night of torrential downpours. The yard is once again a lake. The Koi are thinking of going exploring I swear I saw little back packs being packed in the pond.
The house smells of wet dogs and there are muddy footprints everywhere. I wish we would have more than two days in a row without rain. One day of sun doesn’t even begin to dry things out.
I swear I’m growing mold or is it moss?

Wet weather wet dogs

After having a dry summer, it seems that fall is making up for it. We’ve certainly had a lot of rain. It rained all day, all night, and all day again. At least this time it isn’t coming from the same direction as the last storm and the roof isn’t leaking. However, it did get chilly enough to turn the heat on.
It must be the cooler weather. Just when I think I have them figured out, Gavin and Patty change things. The crazy dogs have altered their schedules over the last couple of weeks. Instead of sleeping from seven to two a.m., when they go out for a last call, and then sleeping for the rest of the night, they are now waking at ten and staying up until midnight. From ten to midnight they race around the house playing doggie tag until they drop. Then they want to go out. After that, they zonk and sleep the rest of the night.
Gavin enjoys going out in the rain some days and others he doesn’t want to go unless he must. Today was one of those ‘let me out every five minutes’ days. Even with his short wash and wear coat, I don’t think he dried out until almost three in the morning. Patty on the other hand hates rain and is content to stay indoors until she’s desperate.

The rain finally showed up

We’ve been terribly dry here for most of July, August and September so far. Therefore, when raindrops began to ping off the AC unit I was pleased. At first, DH didn’t recognize the sound and asked me, “is that rain?”
Yes, it has been that dry. It was so dry around here the trees were chasing the dogs. It was so dry that the ground was as hard as a rock. It was so dry that…well you get the idea.
At least now, it isn’t dry and the grass is already looking greener. We were lucky that it didn’t come down as a gully washer. Instead, it’s been a good soaking rain. I don’t have to lug water to the gardens today, YAY!
If we’re very lucky, the rain will last for a day or two and give the thirsty ground a deep drink. It will make weeding a lot easier.
Other than a lack of rain, the weather is fantastic. The daytime temperatures are in the mid seventies and the nights drop into the mid sixties. It’s great for sleeping.
