Great day fishing!
Posted by doggonedmysteries
At least it was for me. I couldn’t toss my line in without getting a strike. Not so, for DH, I don’t think he had as much as one bite. At least he got some fresh air and sunshine.
We had the park and river to ourselves except for a couple that were fly-fishing in the rapids below us.
I caught a lovely rainbow trout in the first five minutes we were there. Then I caught several brookies and another rainbow. DH caught the roots of a weeping willow several times.
It seems it was women’s day on the river. The woman who was fly-fishing the rapids below us caught a couple of nice trout. By the time they left, her male companion looked very disappointed.
Sorry folks, we were over halfway to the river when I realized I’d forgotten the camera. Maybe next time I’ll remember it.

A perfect day

We had warm sun and a cool breeze. I played pack mule and hauled all the gear to a favorite spot on the river in the park, all except for DH’s fishing pole that he held in one hand and his cane in the other. After setting up his chair and settling him in, I walked a little further down river. There, I set up my campstool, sat down, baited my hook, and made my first cast.
A minute later, I had a nibble on my hook. The fish stole half my nightcrawler and swam away. This was indicative of what the afternoon would be like. I didn’t mind. I baited my hook and cast again.
Three robins came within a foot of me. “Sorry guys, he has the bait can.” I pointed at DH a hundred yards up river. They hung around me all afternoon.
We had mallards swim by, fly by, and land on the water nearby. Chickadees sang above us in the weeping willow. A hawk called as it flew over.
Joggers, bicyclists, dog walkers, and people enjoying strolls along the river passed by.

Sookie Stackhouse instead of shuffle dog please
Posted by doggonedmysteries
I spent most of this evening immersed in Charlaine Harris’s world of Sookie Stackhouse. I needed a break from reality and some well earned pleasure. I find all of her books a pleasure to read and her Sookie books top my list. (Gee, I hope someone says that of me one day.)
We had a busy day topped by taking both dogs to the vet’s office. We play shuffle dog. One in the van with DH while one is in the office and then we switch them. Or rather I do. It is a great deal of exercise moving the dogs around when one is not happy to be there. (Read the September 1 post.)
Gavin still needed his shots and blood test, and we had Patty scheduled for hers. After three vet visits this week alone the total bill came to $400.00. Can you say OUCH? Had Gavin not become ill the day before his appointment our bill would’ve been about $180.00 because he wouldn’t have needed to go a second time.
We were out of heartworm pills too, they take them the fifth of each month, and that ran us $85.00 for 12 doses or six months worth. That ran up the bill. At least the pups are now up to date on all their shots. Lucky Gavin got one more than Patty. He was due for his rabies shot.
Neither dog seems to mind the shots they go quickly. The drawing of blood…well, Gavin hates that and if not held tight will pull away from the needle. Patty is stoic and stands like a statue to have her blood drawn.

Miss Patty hides
Posted by doggonedmysteries
We crate the pups when we aren’t here to supervise during the day. They enjoy getting into things too much to leave them to their own devices. Today I thought Mr. Houdini dog taught baby sister Patty how to open her crate door. It wasn’t so. It seems that DH hadn’t latched her door properly.
DH had gone upstairs for a nap while I was outside working in the gardens. He’d crated the dogs. When I came in Gavin was snoozing in his crate but Patty was nowhere to be found. Then I heard her thunder down the stairs. She zoomed around the corner at the bottom of the steps and about jumped out of her skin to see me standing there.
She dove into her crate and hid in the back. Her guilt was so palpable I thought I’d better go see what she’d been doing upstairs. She hadn’t touched anything in the bathroom. DH had his room’s door closed. The laundry basket waiting to have clothes unloaded had the back room door blocked. That left the bedroom.
Oh yeah, she’d been in there. She had used the bed for a trampoline. Pillows were scattered, some on the floor, and the bedspread was askew.
