My Tuesday night TV addictions
Posted by doggonedmysteries
On Tuesday nights, I record IZombie, watch America has Talent, and I can do that, and record a new show, Stitchers.
Our DVR is often busy with night time series recordings because The Curmudgeon goes to bed so early I tend to record a few shows I think he might enjoy.
Those shows we watch around dinner time the next night.
Therefore, Wednesday night is when I’ll watch IZombie and Stitchers with The Curmudgeon. Good thing too since Wednesday night TV sucks.

1st of the new Dr. Who
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Did the ten-minute preshow yammering before they started the season’s first Dr. Who episode drive anyone else crazy? I’m not a rabid Whovian fan but really? You need to spend ten minutes talking like idiots about a TV show before the show begins? Then have to rehash it two hours later?
It’s an effing TV show, people. I did enjoy it and yes, this Dr. looks to be darker than the last Dr. Who.
I swear it’s like news analysts talking about a political speech for an hour afterwards. Duh, I heard the speech I don’t need to hear them pick it apart and throw in their opinions.
The same goes for the idiots who analyze a sports event afterwards. Are these people really necessary?
Why do the networks think this crap is what people want to see or listen to?
And don’t get me started on 99% of the reality shows.
Howling wolves are more entertaining.

New season of Dr. Who
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Love it. BBC is running a Dr. Who marathon before the new season begins on Saturday. I’ve been watching it since dinner time.
It should be interesting to see how the new Dr. Who is characterized in this season. From the preview flashes he’s older and sounds like he could be a harsher personality.
Could this be the darkest season yet?
What do you think?

Crossing Castle off my list of shows
Posted by doggonedmysteries
That’s it I’m done. When Beckett tasted the drugs that they found in the locker, I was ready to throw a brick at the TV. No *%$#^$ way! The writers of the show seriously need to do some real research or talk to some honest to goodness live police officers.
Hell, Lee Lofland would love it if they came to him for advice or attended the Writers Police Academy. Check out his link on my blogroll–Graveyard Shift.
In the entire show, the only scene I enjoyed was the last one between Beckett and Castle. Geez, that’s bad. Most people who switched channels in disgust missed the best scene. I was busy at the computer—yes, I walked away from the show. Not far though since my computer is in the living room. DH was still watching it and making derisive comments through to the end.
The worst thing is that the premise of this show was good. The writing however, sucked big time. For me it means time to say bye bye to Castle. I have better things to do with my time…like write.

Royal Pains a royal flush
Posted by doggonedmysteries
I’ve been very pleased with the USA and TNT Networks the past several years. They offer a number of original and enchanting shows, most of which I find better entertainment than what the major networks hurl at us. These USA and TNT shows have clever writers who seem to enjoy entertaining the public.
I watched the season premiere of USA’s newest show, Royal Pains tonight. They’ve hooked me once again. I must say, Royal Pains is different, clever, and so far, entertaining. They hooked me with Monk, In Plain Sight, Burn Notice, and Psych, when they came out. I watch them regularly. TNT has me hooked on Saving Grace and Leverage.
Hey, CBS, NBC, and ABC take a lesson from USA and TNT, hire some good writers, buy some good books, and give us back real entertainment. We don’t want the reality crap shows you seem to want to palm off on us.

Why I shouldn’t watch HGTV
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Sometimes late at night, after Dear Hubby has gone to bed, I feed my addiction. I watch HGTV. I watch the design shows, the home renovation shows, and even the house hunting shows. I do this while I’m writing too. It has come in handy for some scenery. However, it makes me want to do things around here like paint every room, dry wall the kitchen and the last bedroom that needs it, and put in new flooring in the living room.
Like anything other than painting the living room and kitchen is going to happen any time soon. I’ll do that once I can open the windows. Oh, how I’d love to have one of those productions show up on my door step and tell me they were going to do all the work that needs to be done. Yes, I have wild dreams.
I dream of an organized, easy to clean home. I dream of inviting people in without adding the words “don’t mind the mess.” I dream of furniture that doesn’t look as though it’s gone through a war. Yes! Yes! Then I wake up.

Will CSI continue to be as interesting without Grissom?
Posted by doggonedmysteries
As a mystery writer and the wife of a retired Police Officer, I know that what you see is not what you get in real life from a CSI unit. Nevertheless, I enjoy the show. I’ve listened to Dear Hubby say, “there’s no way they’d get the results that fast.” At a writer’s conference I sat in (author of Police Procedures and Investigation a Guide for Writers) Lee Lofland’s ‘CS I don’t believe it’ session. He told us the same thing DH had told me. I still enjoy the show.
I’ve watched CSI from the start. It is the best of the three CSI programs. I will miss Gil Grissom’s (William Peterson) unassuming persona. I am thrilled that they didn’t end his role violently as they did Warrick’s (Gary Dourdan). It’s time they had a character leave with happy results. Gil Grissom has gone to Costa Rica to be with Sara.
Now don’t get me wrong, I am looking forward to seeing what they do with their new cast member Dr. Raymond Langston (Laurence Fishburne). However, I do wonder if the show will ever be as good. I hope so. Fishburne has some enormous shoes to fill.
