Posted by doggonedmysteries
Woke to this crap again yesterday. Really? Again? Color me grumpy.
You all have a good one and please, think Spring!

Fair weather dogs.
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Will the cold and wet weather never cease? Yesterday we managed to have snow, sleet, and rain. The dogs were not happy campers. They like sunshine and warm. They take after me. 😀
Today our high will be 30 degrees and our low 18. Wind chills will drop that even more. Yikes!
I can see the dogs now. Patty will hold it until her bladder reaches almost bursting level before she asks to go out. Gavin will still want out every five minutes. Therefore, both dogs will go out often, because if one goes the other goes.
I am not putting on my jacket and taking one out without the other going too. I have done the take one out, come in, other one not in sight, remove jacket, settle comfortably, and then the other one rings the bells to go out.
Not going to happen. If one goes so will the other.

No more snow…please?
Posted by doggonedmysteries
So, we had snow again. I can’t tell you how tired of grey skies I am. Yesterday, no sun and snow off and on all day. Looks like we’ll have this fine snow all night–I’m typing this in the wee hours of the a.m.
The forecast for Wednesday and Thursday says sun, that will be nice! I’ve missed the sun. Even so, having sun doesn’t mean warm. The predicted temperatures for both days are 37 and 34 degrees Fahrenheit respectively. I’d rather have 30 to 40 degrees more.
Yes, I am looking forward to Spring. I usually am by this time of year because I am not a fan of snow, ice, and cold.
You all have a good one!

Hoodie weather has arrived
Posted by doggonedmysteries
The weather turned chilly last night. With temperatures dropping down to 41 degrees I finally got a chance to wear my new hoodie when I took the dogs out for their last out of the night.
I can now tell how worn out my old one was. The new one is so much warmer! Plus I do love this picture on mine…
The Curmudgeon will be pleased in the morning when he takes the pups out while wearing his new hoodie. He’s usually cold even when I think it’s warm.
You all have a good one!

Wet weather wet dogs
Posted by doggonedmysteries
After having a dry summer, it seems that fall is making up for it. We’ve certainly had a lot of rain. It rained all day, all night, and all day again. At least this time it isn’t coming from the same direction as the last storm and the roof isn’t leaking. However, it did get chilly enough to turn the heat on.
It must be the cooler weather. Just when I think I have them figured out, Gavin and Patty change things. The crazy dogs have altered their schedules over the last couple of weeks. Instead of sleeping from seven to two a.m., when they go out for a last call, and then sleeping for the rest of the night, they are now waking at ten and staying up until midnight. From ten to midnight they race around the house playing doggie tag until they drop. Then they want to go out. After that, they zonk and sleep the rest of the night.
Gavin enjoys going out in the rain some days and others he doesn’t want to go unless he must. Today was one of those ‘let me out every five minutes’ days. Even with his short wash and wear coat, I don’t think he dried out until almost three in the morning. Patty on the other hand hates rain and is content to stay indoors until she’s desperate.

After the storm
Posted by doggonedmysteries
With very strong winds gusting and pushing the rain from the south, our roof leaked again. This only happens when conditions are right and conditions were perfect. I cussed the weather and roof and set out the usual buckets. If we could afford it, I’d have that entire roof torn off and redone so it never leaks again.
Since we often have a problem with the power going out in fractious weather, I cooked the bacon for our BLTs early in the afternoon. This time our power stayed on much to our surprise. I told DH it was because for once I was prepared for the worst. I guarantee had I not cooked the bacon for our dinner the power would’ve gone out. I will keep that in mind for future storms.
I see we have some small tree branches down and there are a few plants in the garden that look like an elephant stepped on them. Today is still gray so I’ll wait for clear skies before I go out and clean up the mess. In the meantime, I have buckets to empty, walls to scrub, and more cussing to do.

The week in review
Posted by doggonedmysteries
This has been a long week. Very cold weather and now today, more snow. Dang, we were just getting to see some grass peek through the last dumping of snow we got. The furnace has been working overtime keeping the house warm. Eeks! We have frigid weather and another inch or two of snow predicted for this weekend. Take note people, with this surge in cold weather stocks in long underwear companies should rocket. Hurry up spring!
Meanwhile back at the pond, the waterfall is frozen but the fountains are running. We need a few days above freezing to thaw the filters and the waterfall. There’s no ice on the pond, due to the cattle trough heater, but leaves clogged the basket on top of the pump, thus the frozen filters. It took me two hours to get the fountains flowing. Ah, wet hands and frigid weather, what a lovely combination.
Gavin and Patty are as sick of snow as we are. Neither one wants to be outside long. Our normally quiet dog barked when she saw some people outside today. It seems that Patty has taken to complaining to the neighbors about the weather.
DH had a bad week. We’re hoping next week will be a better one for him. He’s going to skip his Avonex dose on Monday. We’ll see how that goes.
Here’s hoping for warmer days, melted snow, and DH feeling better.

Enough snow already.
Posted by doggonedmysteries
We’ve had quite a snowstorm come through here. It finally stopped around 2 a.m. I, being the fool that I am, went outside and shoveled. I shoveled, and I shoveled, and by gum I shoveled some more. I completed a 150 foot+ long by 3 foot wide path through snow about one foot deep. (Okay, officially it was only 4 to 5 inches deep here but at 3 a.m. it sure looked like a foot of snow.) It’s legal, I’m pooped, and I know I’m gonna feel it when I wake up.
Dear Mother Nature,
We have enough snow for a white Christmas, so when people are wishing for one, please don’t listen. We have enough snow for sledding, so when the children ask for more, please don’t listen. Since Dave so gleefully E-mailed me about let it snow, let it snow, etc. IF you must dump more snow around here, please target Dave’s house and skip mine. (Quit laughing Lee, you’re next on my list.)
Sincerely,
MWH
By the way everyone, today is Elena’s birthday. Happy Birthday E!

A Nor’easter blows through
Posted by doggonedmysteries
Nor’easter shmoreaster it’s friggin cold, windy, wet, and plain old miserable. Wouldn’t you know I’d have to go out in all this muck to shop? I hate shopping. I hate it even more when it’s nasty outside.
There’s nothing like wrestling a forty pound bag of dog food out of a cart and slinging it into the back of the van with rain pounding down around you. That is except schlepping bags from a fully loaded shopping cart of groceries into said vehicle on the same trip. At which time there was the bonus of large snowflakes added to the downpour. (Lee if you’re reading this, you can stop laughing now it didn’t stick to the ground.)
Oh, joy, the first snow of the season, blecch! Mother Nature isn’t finished with us yet, she’s ordered another Nor’easter to come through here right behind this one. Gee, thanks Ma.
The dogs and Dear Hubby were all snug in the house. I was not. I was carrying things into the house. Rain soaked, windblown, and cold I dragged the last bag in. DH told me he was going upstairs to take a nap. And people wonder why I write murder mysteries…
