New mantra; never make plans…

I should know by now that when I make plans, something is going to happen.  I had planned to go over to the MIL’s house today to get some work done.  Well, that’s not going to happen.

Last night, while standing at the sink washing my grill pan, my back suddenly went out on me.

I hadn’t bent, twisted, turned, or lifted anything.  I wasn’t knocked about by a Bull Terrier either.  Go fig.  I’ll be spending the day on ice in my chair or bed.

Happy birthday Gavin–a few days late.

Baby Gavin

Ten years ago I got a phone call from Nova Scotia.  Rosalyn Forrest told me that there was one white male puppy in a litter born on the first of November.  He was mine if I wanted him.  I told her YES!

Eight weeks later he arrived at the airport, had to go through customs, and then went to meet his new Daddy at work.

DH was surprised, since he hadn’t expected the pup to arrive for another two weeks.

He’s been my baby since the day he arrived.  Thank you for calling me back then, Rosalyn.

Updates on DH and the snow damage

DH is much improved from his several days of muscle spasticity to our great relief.  His recovery is slow and we hope he will recover fully.

The night of the dreaded Halloween snowstorm you could hear trees and branches snapping and popping all over the place.  All I heard today was the sound of chain saws.

I have to somehow pull two broken magnolia limbs out of that tree and so far it looks like only one more tulip tree branch I’ll need to get down from that tree.  How you ask?  You got me by the short ones.  If my tree saw won’t reach I don’t know what I’ll do.

Then I need to start raking leaves and dragging them out to the street for clean up.  The way I’m feeling now, this is going to take forever.

Whew! Trick or Treat hordes!!!

We had so many Trick or Treaters show up that I had little time to take pictures and keeping my cauldron filled with candy was quite a trick.

Six pumpkins and a bottle of wine later…

Okay, only three of them were big enough to carve.   Pictures will be posted tomorrow night.  I didn’t do any fancy carved ones.  I went lowbrow and easy.

Week of preperations for Halloween

The beef BBQ/sloppy Joe dinner is made and ready to reheat in the crock pot Friday.

Today G and I are going to pick up a couple of pumpkins to do some silly carvings–not the usual fancy stuff this year.  I’ll do the carving Thursday night.

Wednesday I’ll do some last minute cleaning and get the house ready for Friday night.  DH has picked out the Halloween movie to play–I don’t ask I wait and see.

I am undecided as to my costume this year.  It might be what I wore last year,  or I might do a Zombie costume.  It depends on the weather, the Zombie outfit will be much warmer…after all it’s easy to layer clothes in that costume.

     Until tomorrow…Boo Y’all.

Have you ever had one of those days?….

You get up too late.  Your brain is fuzzy from oversleeping.  Three cups of coffee don’t seem to put a dent in the fuzz.

You hurry and scurry to get things done and still are so far behind you seem to have jumped ahead.

You feel as though you are running in clay mud.  Yeah, you know what I mean, that sticky, slippery mud in which you can’t make any headway.

     Welcome to my day….

RIP Cousin Bill

Cousin by marriage, I never had a chance to meet you in person.  We talked on the phone a few times and I did enjoy your sense of humor.  I will dedicate ‘Fluffy’ to you.

I was lucky in August, I had DH call an ambulance when I didn’t feel right.  That saved my life, I survived my heart attack.  I wish you had listened to your symptoms.

My heart goes out to Bill’s wife–my Cousin Gloria and his family.  He was a good man who touched many lives.

Getting spooky

Only a few of the props that we have set up.  My batteries died before I could get the rest of the pictures taken.  I’ll take more when the new prop arrives.

About those cannas I am giving away…

Notice how tall the Cannas are?  The fence is a six footer.

Lovely weather!

We’ve had a couple of gorgeous days.  This is such a lovely change from all the rain.

Yesterday I decided to take advantage of the weather and get some sun.  I took the dogs out to play several times.  They were happy about that.

They haven’t forgotten how to jump through the Hula hoops.  This is the first time in quite a while we had that sort of fun.

I even got in some weeding.

Unfortunately the ground is still saturated, it’s going to take at least a week or two to dry it out to a point where the rain won’t just run right off.

DH doesn’t do animatronic repairs

Where’s a animatronic repair person when you need one?  I’d forgotten that my barrel zombie wasn’t working.  Now I have to figure out if I can get it working in time for my trick or treaters this year.

Maybe I’ll dress DH up and put HIM in the barrel.

Or perhaps someone wants to volunteer for the job?

I need to clear the plants out of my planters on the porch before the end of next month so we can stand there to hand out candy–the plants have taken over the porch.
