Why we’ll never be rich…

We’ll never be rich because this house has always been a money pit, and will always be one. Below are the results of the last two years of hard winters and the neighbor’s leaky rain gutters.

HPIM4005     We don’t have a close friend who is a mason and can do the repair work for cost.

HPIM4006     We don’t have the $$ for costs because it looks as though the entire porch needs a good jack hammering and removal.

HPIM4007     The city permits would kill our bank account.

HPIM4008     The Curmudgeon knows nothing about masonry. I know more than he does on that subject.

HPIM4009     Maybe we can squeeze out one more year?

You all have a good one.

Get my muse hopping

I’m thinking that in order to get my muse hopping I’m going to need to get out more. Do some people watching and stuff.

There’s a little coffee shop not far from here, but not within summer heat walking distance, that I don’t often get to because the parking there is a bitch. However, I think I found a nearby side street that I can park on that is easier than trying to park close to the place. A little walking never hurts.

I also need to get out fishing to relax and get the ideas flowing more. There is something about sitting on a river bank with a fishing pole that relaxes me completely.

To AC or not to AC… if he’s warm we AC

We had the house opened up all day. It was so nice to have fresh air and no AC drone. Now the AC is back on because The Curmudgeon is warm. I was warm earlier and he griped when I turned the ceiling fan up a notch.

I’m feeling a double standard here.

I am so willing to pay someone to cut all the vines down in the back corner of the yard. I am exhausted from filling two trash barrels full, and there’s so much more to do.

4th of July war zone

Honestly, I can do without all the fireworks.  They began before June. Yesterday they started in the afternoon and continued all night. For a city where it is illegal to set off fireworks we certainly did have a lot of big stuff going off.

I pity the pets. I pity people like The Curmudgeon who go to bed early and had such a total disruption of their night.

I might have been a jolly participant in the festivities if they hadn’t scared our rescue dog Lucy and given me one hell of headache. Yes, it was that much and that loud in our neighborhood. There was no getting away from them. I had to hold Lucy in my lap all night.

I wish the police could enforce the law but with so many people setting them off it is impossible for them to do it.

If I’m lucky my headache will leave before I wake up. If I can get to sleep.

You all have a good one.

Happy 4th…

Because The Curmudgeon doesn’t tolerate heat well we won’t be picnicking outside. If it doesn’t rain I will be grilling our dinner. I’m not sure what that is yet.

Poor Lucy is not thrilled with fireworks so I have no idea what she’s going to do when the city sets off its display and all the idiots around here do their versions. This will not be fun. She didn’t like the thunderstorm last night.

We have new idiots down the street that have been setting off huge aerial fireworks, set up improperly so they are going off low near the roofs. They will most likely set a house on fire this weekend. I hope it is not mine.

You all have a happy and safe day.

Hot weather again yesterday wore this little gal out.

G and I spent the afternoon driving out to our favorite garden shop where I found this guy just waiting for me to pick him up and take him home.

HPIM3984     He’s hysterical and anatomically correct.

I have to do some planting tomorrow. I have eggplants, pepper plants, white sage plants, petunias, and Greek oregano.

You all have a good one!

More bits and bobs

Wow, it did get warm yesterday. Totally put The Curmudgeon on the sidelines. When I came downstairs he told me the dogs needed to go out and he couldn’t walk anymore. He, after a few hours downstairs, went up to stay in bed. It was not a good day for him at all.

I had a doctor appointment, my every three months check. My doctor has recently had his own health problems crop up and it’s delightful that he takes it with humor. The man had me giggling like a fool with his jokes.

Lucy is not pleased with the idiots who are setting off the fireworks around here. Neither am I. Gavin doesn’t give a darn.

Miscellaneous

Whew, going to be stinking hot here today. Good thing we already have the AC running. I don’t know what we’d do without the AC. The Curmudgeon wouldn’t be able to move at all without it. Told him if he goes outside he’d better wear his ice vest.

Why do people who are calling for charity donations get pissed off when I tell them we are on a do not call list? I’m not going to give to them anyway when they call me at 10:00 p.m. and are rude to me.

Lucy likes to watch Swamp People. Silly dog. “Choot ’em Lizabeth!”

15 minutes a day training

Gavin and Lucy are getting along, although at times she gets to be a bit much for him. Those are the times when he decides the crate is where he wants to be. He closes his door so he is safe from her excitement and comfortable enough to take a good nap.

Yes, he is getting old and showing it lately. We didn’t realize how much until live wire Lucy joined our family. We forgot how busy these guys can be.

Lucy does enjoy our quiet lifestyle but only because we give her several good workouts a day.

She’s learned her recall very well, she knows drop it, she sits, and she gives paw on command. We will begin working on her down and stay. I hope to be able to build a few obstacles for her to play on and have fun with.

This gift will keep on giving

After an overwhelming day the day before, yesterday, The Curmudgeon (Jay) took his mobility cart for several spins in the yard and showed it off to the next door neighbors.

I think he’s still a bit in shock over everyone’s generosity in getting the cart for him.

You have to understand that even though he was an only child, he was never treated well by either of his parents. They were cold people who never hugged or showed much affection.

Coming into my family, where most of us were demonstrative, was culture shock for him. My grandmother giving him hugs, my father treating more like a son than his own father ever did, my mother treating him better than his mother, sisters teasing him and showing him affection, he discovered a whole new sort of life and he liked it.

He was so touched by this gift. This outpouring of love from people he knows so little about. He was at a loss for words for most of the day, but I caught him outside admiring the cart more than once.
