Updates

The Curmudgeon had a strange day yesterday.  His balance sucked but he said he felt pretty darned good in spite of that.  Go figure.

Gavin and Patty are full of energy and chase each other about every morning now.  I guess his UTI is getting better.

The roof on the MIL’s garage is STILL not done.  The Curmudgeon talked to the roofer and got a few excuses.  We’ll see what happens.  If it doesn’t get finished soon he’ll have me to deal with and I’m never as easy to appease as The Curmudgeon.

Writing is still eluding me.  Maybe once the house is finally on the market I’ll relax enough to work.

You all have a good one!

On the road back to writing well

I can pick up my desk top computer today.  Yay!  I hope he has good news to tell me about my data.  I am glad we purchased the lap top even though it will take a little while to pay off that once clear charge. It did come in handy for the time it took to fix my old faithful desk top.

I will set the desk top up on my desk in the living room and take my lap top up to my bedroom.  I’ll have a place I can escape to where I can write in peace once again.   The antique desk from the MIL’s house is in the bedroom which will make it a decent writer’s retreat.

It will be nice to have the lap top to take with me when I find a new I-need-to-get-out-of-the-house place to write this summer.  I used to go to our local Borders but now that is closed and I really do need to find a new place.  The B&Ns here have tiny cafes and they aren’t very friendly to anyone who wants to sit there for more than a few minutes.

I am scoping out a small coffee shop that might allow long-term seating with coffee purchases.  It isn’t far from the house and their coffee is wonderful.

A Gavin update

Had Gavin at the vet’s this evening.  He checked Gavin’s ear and wants to leave the stitches in another week to make sure enough scar tissue builds up to prevent this from happening again.

As usual, Gavin was not thrilled to be there no matter how many cookies he got.  Yes, he’s a short bus dog for sure.  His vet adores him even though Gavin will not look him in the face.  Gavin will close his eyes to take a treat so he can’t look him in the eye.

When we got home He leapt about with Patty like a puppy.  He was very happy to be home after the torture of having NOTHING DONE to him and many cookies.

Shoot them all — Yep, I’m in a rotten mood.

I am NOT a happy camper since someone bombed me with a malware bomb and sent my computer off to the computer hospital for a few days.  You’d think I’d be a little happy since The Curmudgeon decided that it was time for me to have a lap top as a back up computer.

Well, that sort of took a lot of the sting out of it.  However, to those of you who think it is fun to hack, send viruses, worms, and malware out into the world I’m here to tell you that it causes heartbreak–I lost a couple of book chapters I worked very hard on thank you very much…I thought I’d backed them up as I normally do but I must’ve been over tired.

It cost us plenty money wise–paying for the repairs and buying the lap top.  This means we’ll have to go without something this month–maybe a medicine.  Did you even consider that?  I doubt it because you only think of yourself.  Personally, I hope all of you who do this rotten crap get caught and I wish they’d stand you against a wall and have a firing squad shoot you.

Gavin’s recovery day 2

When The Curmudgeon got up, I went to bed trusting him to keep an eye on Gavin.  According to him, Gavin spent most of the day sleeping.  This is a good thing.  He did keep Gavin and Patty separated all day since he didn’t think he could manage them if she got too peppy and wanted to play with Gavin.

It turns out she was happy to have her Daddy to herself each time she was out of her crate and made no moves to pester Gavin through the crate door at all.

Once I finally woke up, The Curmudgeon was already down for his nap.  They did tire him out today and since Gavin was so good about his ear, he trusted him to leave it alone.  Something I wouldn’t have done.  Yes, I did scold him a tad.

I decided to give the dogs a chance to be together.  Gavin was out of his crate and I let Patty join him.  She gave his ear a couple of good sniffing and then left him alone.  She didn’t try to engage him in play so I’m guessing she knew he wasn’t up for it.

If all continues to go well, Gavin should have his stitches out on the 23rd.  Patty will be happy since I’m sure it is taking all her best behavior to keep from teasing him into playing with her.

I miss the laughter

It’s been a long time since I’ve had the giggles so bad I couldn’t stop.  Typical of sisters, my baby sis and I could always get each other giggling so bad that you couldn’t breathe and whenever you looked at each other you’d go off into peals of laughter all over again.

I miss her.  She was one of the few people who could do that to me.  I don’t think I’ve laughed like that since she died in 2001.

The pups manage to make me giggle and so does The Curmudgeon with his wonderful dry sense of humor, but they can’t make me go helpless with laughter.

Ten years without those deep belly laughs and giggles that make you go limp is a long time.  Does the laughter ever come back?

What is your passion?

Everyone has one, two, or more things that they are passionate about.  For me it’s The Curmudgeon, the dogs, writing, and my gardens.

I have no idea what I’d do without The Curmudgeon, he’s my life.

For over thirty years I ran a small, local Bull Terrier club rescue and I have to say I miss it terribly.  However, I also have to say that I no longer have the energy to do it.  We rescued and placed well over thirty Bull Terriers in happy homes and only ever had one bounce back.  Two of our own dogs were rescue Bullies we didn’t place but kept.  Sadie and who the Curmudgeon fell for like a ton of bricks, and our sweet Patty our last rescue.

Writing, I try to write every day, even if as of lately it is only blog posts.

   What are you passionate about?

My gardens, they have suffered the last year with me being so busy at the MIL’s house, and with all the rain we’ve had–too much rain.

And so today goes…

It’s Thanksgiving.  The Curmudgeon and I are going to enjoy a lovely dinner of roast chicken (he won’t eat turkey), sage stuffing, gravy, Harvard beets, cranberry sauce, and we have a slice of cheesecake for each of us for dessert.  Okay it isn’t a completely traditional dinner, but we aren’t your traditional family.

After dinner we’ll enjoy a movie marathon of some DVDs we bought lately and hadn’t had a chance to watch yet.

The Curmudgeon will fall asleep in his chair with Patty.  Gavin will be snoring away in my chair with me.  I will be thankful That I get to enjoy watching all three sleep.

There’s something to be said about a very small family.  There’s no noise, no pressure, and no fighting.  How thankful can I get?  Plenty thankful.

Another senior moment

Earlier, much earlier, I had an idea and thought, “wow, that’d make a great blog post!”  I didn’t make a note, should have.  For the life of me I can’t remember what was so brilliant.

Is it any wonder that every flat surface in my house is covered with sticky notes?

They aren’t just my sticky notes, The Curmudgeon has his share of them too.  His are far more cryptic than mine.  For example, do you have any idea what sw=E4 Z22 2:30 means?  Neither do I.

Mine are more like, livingroom rugs 11′ by 8′ and 8′ by 5′.  Then there’s “Dn’t fgt Lot ticks.”  Easy peasy right?

However, here I am writing away and I still can’t remember what that brilliant idea for a blog post was, DUH.

Hey, I really did need more books…

I ordered three new books today, The Thinker’s Thesaurus, Word Painting, and The Wrong Word Dictionary.  It’s Signals catalogues fault.  I found The Thinker’s Thesaurus in it and didn’t like the price so I went online and found it on Amazon for five dollars less.

You know how Amazon is, they always offer you suggestions “if you like that you might like this’ and that’s how I ended up buying the other two books.  {Sigh}  I’m weak.

Oh, muse of mine, return to me

Oh, please muse of mine come kick me in the a** and jump-start my writing.  Seek me out and hold a gun to my head–make me write.

Take the blank spaces in my brain and fill them to overflowing with words.  Make the words dance and the voices come back to sing operas.

Make my fingers fly over the keyboard telling the tales locked up inside me.

Getting spooky

Only a few of the props that we have set up.  My batteries died before I could get the rest of the pictures taken.  I’ll take more when the new prop arrives.
