Cold remedies

Gavin here, Mom is sick.  She has a bad case of the creeping cruds, or what you humans call ‘a nasty cold’ so Patty and I are standing in for her tonight.  We’re both curious about what she calls cold remedies.  We know she’s tried a few that some friends recommended.

Elena suggested to Mom that she should drink some thyme tea and even told her how to make it.  You should’ve seen Mom’s face when she drank that.  Patty says to tell you that Mom also said a few colorful words when she tasted it.  (None of which I’m allowed to type here.)

Oh, excuse me a minute Mom is over in her chair coughing I must go jump on her chest and lick her face.

Now where was I?  Ah, yes.  Cold cures.  A green tea and honey cure came from a neighbor.  There’s another one Mom swears by, hot and sour soup.  Dad got it for her from the Chinese restaurant.  It smelled good, we tried begging for some but she wouldn’t share.

Do you have a special cold cure for our Mom?  We sure would like her up, around, and ready to play with us again.

  1. For longer than we have knowledge of, women across the planet who had chickens or chicken like creatures have always used chicken soup as a cure for upper respiratory crud.

Therefore it was with great amusement that I read about a research team who actually got a lot of cash money to test whether or not chicken soup does help.

Many delicious months later they concluded it did help. Cloaked in ponderous research verbiage the message was clear. Mother knew best!

  2. Sorry to tell you this, Gavin, but Mom’s just going to have to tough it out. If she uses anything to cure her cold, she’ll have it 14 days. If she uses nothing, she’ll have it 2 weeks. At best, anything she takes, eats, rubs on, or whatever will only ease her symptoms, nothing more.

Sorry, Gav, but that’s the way it is.

  3. Gavin and Patty, sorry your mom is sick. I used those vaporizing shower tablets in a warm shower once and it knocked my cold right out. They are pretty cheap $4-6 a box, but it did the trick for me. Hope your mom is up to speed soon!

Mom is having more hot and sour soup tonight. If we’re lucky she might give us a taste–it smells sooooo good!

  5. Why not buy enough for everyone? Hmmmm. 🙂
